And the I agree too that the stadium within a stadium setup at Miami is just plain daft , really.

OP posts:
Raahh · 31/03/2025 12:28

Actually, it's funny how many of the presenters this last week have said how much they prefer IW to Miami when interviewing players- not sure how well that has gone down with the organisers! Grin

Bloody typical - I said I wouldn't watch the men's final as Djokovic was bound to win and he didn't! I had to endure OH watching golf instead.

JaneJeffer · 31/03/2025 13:27

It got delayed because it was raining @RaraRachaelso was on in the early hours but nobody should have to suffer watching golf Grin

Fizzywinegum · 02/04/2025 17:49

Is anyone watching any tennis this week? I’ve not managed to summon up any enthusiasm to even check out what Sky might be showing

Can’t believe that Monte Carlo starts next week - I love the European clay court season (it will make me miss Rafa though Sad)

JaneJeffer · 02/04/2025 17:59

I saw Danielle playing on the weird greyscale court in Charleston last night.

Raahh · 02/04/2025 18:12

I've checked a few scores, but not much beyond that.

Fizzy Monte Carlo will make me miss Rafa (even though things were not too great there for him in recent years).
I'm really hoping Casper can step up, and we see some of some of the younger players doing well.

and it would be really terrible if the clay caused a certain someone to have even more eye trouble. I mean, really terrible.

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 03/04/2025 18:29

Yes that would be really bad Raahh - hopefully it won’t be too dusty in MC …

I’ve seen some pictures of Jason Isaacs at Rafa’s museum and academy - I last saw him in The White Lotus where I saw a bit more of than I’d bargained for Shock

Tim Henman was on breakfast telly this morning talking about plans to basically flatten Henman Hill at Wimbledon to make it more accessible (it is very steep!) - not until 2027 though

Raahh · 03/04/2025 19:43

Ahh, yes. White Lotus Grin.

I'm not sure how I feel about flattening Henman Hill. I get it, from an accessibility point of view, but the whole thing started quite organically and might lose it's charm if they actually now make it a 'thing' after all this time.

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 03/04/2025 21:06

Yes I wondered about that as well Raahh - they’ll probably end up selling tickets to sit on Henman Hill!

I think Tim was being humorous insisting that it should always be known Henman Hill but I think the Breakfast people thought he was being serious!

Raahh · 04/04/2025 07:55

Fizzy I did wonder if they would use the New Henman Hill as a way to make some money . Nothing would surprise me.

I always wonder how much the people who sit in the deckchairs at RG outside the courts pay- or is that free? I like the RG deckchairs. Though they don't seem to quite 'fit' with the whole French aesthetic- surely you need a knotted hanky and a 99 to sit in a deckchair? Or at least a bucket and spade. Grin.

Fizzywinegum · 04/04/2025 14:09

I think that Wimbledon have deckchairs now Raahh but inside so you would still have to pay to get into the grounds - I tried to find them the last time I went but my map reading skills are rubbish!

I’m hoping to locate them this time Grin

kazzaD66 · 04/04/2025 14:25

From memory fizzy there* *were deckchairs in the Southern Village, where the big screen is, by courts 2 and 12, Somerset Road side virtually opposite Marryat Road. But that was 2 years ago, so may have changed!

Hope everyone enjoying this fabulous weather Grin

Fizzywinegum · 04/04/2025 16:07

I think they’re still there kazza - they are showing on the map on the Wimbledon app - I’m hoping to find them this year!

Hopefully this nice weather will continue - I’ve seen lots of butterflies in the garden!

Fizzywinegum · 04/04/2025 16:13

I’m listening to a Tennis Podcast about the Champions Tour (it’s a Friends one so only available if you pay) - it sounds as if it was mainly a drinking tour with a bit of tennis thrown in

Apparently Tim Henman got so drunk on limoncello that he fell asleep at the dinner table and then missed his flight the next day (amongst other things!) - it’s hilarious but I’m guessing that wasn’t the worse behaviour compared to some of the other players!

Raahh · 04/04/2025 16:24

I can't imagine Tim getting drunk Grin.

Bet it didn't take much!

Last round of qualifying in MC, and the start of some first rounf matches today. I love MC- the scenery is so stunning. It is the tournament I really would like to go to (but back in time maybe, to a Rafa final Grin).

Well done to Jenson Brooksby for seeing off TP in Houston yesterday. Not a massive fan of Brooksby, but anyone who prevents TP and his GF getting to a final is ok by me.
Very grim court in Houston. (I know it was dark) It looked like a re-purposed rodeo yard.

Cobolli is close to winning in in Bucharest. Seb Baez keeps denying him match points though. Thinks he's had 6 now.

OP posts:
Raahh · 06/04/2025 13:56

Well done Flavio. Took 7 match points to do it- but got there in the end.

Finished just in time to nip over to MC for Gasquet V Arnaldi. Richard is retiring at RG, and was doing well this first game, til he got called out for a foot fault, and lost it.

IceandIndigo · 06/04/2025 14:45

Hooray, the sun is shining and clay season is starting! Might get out the limoncello Grin

Raahh · 06/04/2025 15:06

The spectators are pretty noisy in Monte Carlo.

OP posts:
Raahh · 06/04/2025 16:34

Well done Richard!

OP posts:
IceandIndigo · 06/04/2025 16:52

I’m glad Richard won, he’s retiring this clay season.

Raahh · 06/04/2025 17:54

Struff was struffed by a WC from Monaco. Maybe Struff is missing Marvin.

Jordy Porntache has taken the first set against GMP.
