Yah it’s back.

Unforgotten

This will be tv paced , as mine always are

as it will be on ITVX as a box set so sure there will be binge threads

No spoilers please 😘

Sinéad Keenan and Sanjeev Bhaskar return for another instalment of the hit ITV crime drama.

The sixth season is set to premiere on ITV1 (and STV in Scotland) on Sunday 9th February at 9pm, with all episodes of the season available to stream on ITVX as a boxset on the same day.

The second episode will then air on Monday 10th February at 9pm, also on ITV1 and STV.

And then back the following sun /mon eve

The new run takes on a brand new case, with Sinéad Keenan and Sanjeev Bhaskar (www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/unforgotten-cast-itv/) reprising their leading roles as DCI Jessica James and DI Sunny Khan, respectively.

While their initial season working together didn't get off to the smoothest of starts, we're sure things will be a little more plain-sailing for Jessie and Sunny as they embark on yet another grisly investigation.

Like previous seasons of the hit ITV drama, we'll once again be thrown into another complicated case that offers up multiple individuals that seemingly don't have a connection but are somehow caught up in the case at hand.

According to the synopsis: "The series begins when suspected human remains are uncovered on Whitney Marsh – Jess and Sunny are immediately called to the scene, abandoning their evening plans to Jess’s husband’s chagrin.

Dr Balcombe’s analysis reveals that the remains are relatively recent and suggest a grim conclusion: the body was placed there already dismembered.

"With this insight, Jess and Sunny intensify their search certain that other body parts may not be far away."

The guest cast for the series includes MyAnna Buring (The Witcher), Elham Elas (Shantaram), Victoria Hamilton (COBRA) and newcomer Max Fairley, as well as Jan Francis (Just Good Friends) and Damien Molony (Brassic (www.radiotimes.com/tv/comedy/brassic-sky-cast/)).

Andrew Lancel (Bolan’s Shoes) is also reprising his role as Jess’s husband Steve, while Kate Robbins (The Couple Next Door (www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/the-couple-next-door-season-2-cast-confirmed-newsupdate/)) returns as Jessie's mother Kate.

Teasing what's to come with their characters, the season 6 synopsis reveals: "As the investigation unfolds, viewers are introduced to a diverse new cast of characters: Melinda Ricci (MyAnna Buring), an outspoken television commentator based in Ireland; Martin 'Marty' Baines (Max Fairley), an autistic man living with his mother Dot in Deal, Kent; Asif Syed (Elham Elas), an Afghan training for his UK citizenship test; and Juliet Cooper (Victoria Hamilton), a history lecturer and faculty head at a London university.

"While these characters live seemingly separate lives, they are intricately connected by their pasts.

It’s up to Jess, Sunny, and their dedicated team to uncover these hidden links and ultimately expose the truth behind the cold case murder."

I was trying to think where I'd seen Melinda before. Of course; Long Susan!

imfae · 17/02/2025 06:46

Re watched the first 2 episodes and the third last night and also the opening credits .

Have now picked up a few things I missed , but didn't see that Melinda had been a nun !!!

Did anyone else think that Marty was the son of the deceased pub landlord ? Thought it was implausible , as Mum looked to be in her 70s anyway and the murder victim was 54 when he died . Thought she may have seduced him when he was very young . It was the bit in the 1st / 2nd episode when he ( Marty ) was throwing the flowers out to sea and saying sorry to his Dad .
Do we think there may be more than 1 body or are the different strands/ people all linked to the dismembered body ?

PrincessScarlett · 17/02/2025 07:09

Yes I saw Melinda was a nun. I wonder if she was involved in any conflicts as a nun. Taking care of soldiers or asylum seekers?

PrincessScarlett · 17/02/2025 07:10

I also don't think Melinda was having an affair with Gerald. She was just seen with him in his car.

Clawdy · 17/02/2025 08:37

Evenstar · 16/02/2025 23:22

@ChonkyRabbit I did and wonder if she knew the priest when she was a nun!

That's a good point! It was rather bizarre how quickly they had sex.

TheDowagerCountessofPembroke · 17/02/2025 08:40

Good thought with the murder victim being the father of Marty. He could have had two families on the go.

AreYouShittingMe · 17/02/2025 08:46

I'm sure Marty has talked about his dad and 'Mr Cooper' which makes me think they aren't the same. Unless he was using the terms interchangeably when referring to the same person! Enjoying this series so far, but do miss NW

Which he could do I guess. His dad could have told him ‘when we are at work I’m Mr Cooper, don’t call me dad’. To an autistic person like Marty he would have continued to call him Mr Cooper not seeing that he could now say Mr C and his dad are one and the same.

PrincessScarlett · 17/02/2025 09:21

I thought Marty's dad and Gerald are two separate people. Maybe they knew each other.

FawnDrench · 17/02/2025 09:43

There have been several references to Marty's dad. At the end last night his mother's phone call to Marty was very clear that he mustn't mention his father.
Unless it's all a hoax to mislead us of course...

butterpuffed · 17/02/2025 14:34

Melinda may or may not have been having an affair with Gerrard but she knew him well going by looking concerned looking on the internet at what was happening with the interrogation .

Is it known when she had the fling with the priest ? Was it when she was a nun or recently ? She was very upset after she was told her husband probably couldn't father a child . Could she be pregnant by the priest ?

imfae · 17/02/2025 14:53

Hopefully we will find out more if this episode continues at the police station .

Good point by others that Marty 's dad & Mr Cooper's names have been mentioned together .

It doesn't seem that Marty is able to lie very easily . I am now thinking they probably aren't the same person , as surely he would have blurted it out to the police at the start of the interview ?

Could it be that Marty's dad was also killed in suspicious circumstances or even non suspicious circumstances and they are covering this up and continuing to access benefits / pension / income for him ?

Is the link not that it is the same killer but in that the Albanians / Afghans - either together / jointly dispose of / dismember the bodies ?

As @Blondeshavemorefun has mentioned clues in the opening credits . There are clues to it being set during the pandemic when there were obviously travel restrictions in place . So if you wanted to dispose of a body - it would be more difficult to do so . Certainly the Afghans are shown working on a farm and they would have access to a van / be essential workers at the time .

Have probably gone down a complete rabbit hole Grin. Checked only 6 episodes , so two more after tonight .Any other theories ?

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/02/2025 15:05

Well she obv hasn’t had sex with dh for a while so can’t pass baby off as his

That's the series I associate with her too. What a cast. I'd love to see it repeated.

What has Marty done to dot ?

PrincessScarlett · 17/02/2025 22:04

I think Marty has killed his mum hasn't he?

Either that or the mouldy ham sandwich he made her has finally finished her off.

Marty is popping a lot of medication. In episode 1 his mental health doctor tried talking to him about possible nasty side effects but Marty ran off. I wonder if his new medication is making him act worse than he normally would?

PrincessScarlett · 17/02/2025 22:07

Edited

I wonder if it's to do with them being gay? I think Asif met Sam in Afghanistan when Sam was a British soldier there and Asif was working for the British as an interpreter. Asif kept talking in a previous episode about what happens to gay people in Afghanistan and how Hassan has saved the both at least twice.

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/02/2025 22:40

Yes I thought he was constant popping @PrincessScarlett

My guesses from yesterday were totally off the mark .
Am enjoying it now . Can't really guess but am thinking Asif has lied , as has Melinda and Gerry's wife or at the very least told her daughter to keep quiet about a row.
Then we see Marty possibly having killed his mum, or maybe panicked if she looked unconscious / dead that he would get chucked out of the flat . So all still suspects .
We actually don't know a huge amount about Gerry that hadn't come from 2nd hand sources .

Poor Sunni , not having much luck with his love life . I am glad that they are portraying him as a man in this position , as they usually trot out the " needy " female .

Still not finding the female lead as good as Nicola Walker , but love NW as an actress , so perhaps understandable

For fellow NW fans I loved her in this , also in May to December . My favourite was "River "with Skellan Skargaard , father of the more famous Christopher . She also played a police officer in this . I checked and it was from 2015 , only available that I can see from Prime for £5.99 which I am tempted to pay and rewatch .

She was good in the Split too , although the recent special wasn't great but I found Annika where she again plays a police detective not great as the plots seemed to be really weak .

Any other recommendations for good detective / crime /thrillers ?

PrincessScarlett · 17/02/2025 22:57

I think Marty is being set up to be Gerald's killer but it's not him at all.

Was Patrick's cat crash a complete accident or was he targeted because of Melinda? He said the other driver was drunk but that's all we really know. Melinda was receiving threats from Gerald and had received other online threats due to her right wing views.
