Ted Lasso - I don't get it?

We've just started watching this. I don't like any of the characters and it's boring. Am I alone in this?
The only interesting bits are spotting the Richmond locations.

I was so sad when it finished. Probably the best TV since Twin Peaks (also nothing like it).
Stick at it. You will come to love it.

foreverbasil · 17/01/2025 16:39

I thought it was tedious. Tried most of the first series but it was very unlikeable

To start with I enjoyed it but the Juno Temple character was so coarse it spoilt it for me and I don't consider myself a prude as such, Maybe I am?

She was my favourite character. Fab actress.

PuppyMonkey · 17/01/2025 16:47

I got as far as series 2, episode 9 (I just checked this) and while some of it is quite amusing, I realised my attention was always wandering and it was a bit… boring. Not a footie fan, which I am told shouldn’t matter but maybe it does?

I couldn’t get past series one of Schitt’s Creek either though, I found it totally unfunny. So maybe I’m just weird.

Shrinking is a million times better than both of them. But old episodes of Frasier still beat them all.Grin

IWasBornIn1989 · 17/01/2025 16:47

Yep same. Watched the whole first series, didn’t bother with the rest.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 17/01/2025 17:19

My DP wanted to watch it so I said OK, I'll watch with you. I'm a football fan so did so because of that.

Didn't get it at first either. But it's grown on me and is really quite lovely

Give it a bit longer.

Figgygal · 17/01/2025 17:21

Hes here
Hes there
Hes every fucking where Roy Kent!

It's nothing to do with football it's joyous

PuppyMonkey · 17/01/2025 17:57

Yeah see that bit doesn’t really make me laugh. Confused

Icannotremembermyusername · 17/01/2025 18:06

One of my favourites! Just makes me smile 😊 I really love Ted too. I want a Ted in my life ❤️

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 17/01/2025 18:10

Me too OP’, have actually watched it all the way through as DH likes it, but I do not like it all all. Don’t stick with it, it gets no better.

Reetpetitenot · 17/01/2025 18:11

It's one of the few programmes where we pretty much liked all of the characters, apart from Anthony Head. We were late to the party and watched it because so many people seemed to love it - one of our favourite things on TV for years.

I've become increasingly bored with 'edgy' (I.e. How far can we push boundaries, yawn). Ted Lasso is a great antidote.

Elasticatedtrousers · 17/01/2025 18:12

Utterly beautiful TV!

Barrenfieldoffucks · 17/01/2025 18:13

I felt the same to begin with, as did DH, but we then fell for it. Same as Schitt's creek actually.

Barrenfieldoffucks · 17/01/2025 18:13

"WHISTLE"

Gets shouted in our house a lot.

icanatilldancetowhigfield · 17/01/2025 18:31

Oh I love it. Ted Lasso has a special place in my heart.

Hollythedogwalker · 17/01/2025 18:33

Nor me! I thought it was a great premise but the plots and humour could have been so much better. The aforementioned Xmas episode was embarrassing to watch, I persevered for a bit but called it a day when Nate spat on the mirror

Screamingabdabz · 17/01/2025 18:38

If you hate Ted Lasso you hate life. It’s absolutely up there with some of best TV feel-goods of all time. Only beaten by Schitts Creek.

beguilingeyes · 17/01/2025 18:42

Nah... you've spelt Detectorists wrong. Nowthat's perfection.

We loved it. The Christmas episode and the Beard going awol were added after the second series had been all scripted so that's why they are so odd. But my cat is named after Roy Kent. Because he's here, he's there, he's every...well if you know you know.

You need to get out more. Grin

'Nah... you've spelt Detectorists wrong'

Such a lovely show. Great mix of touching and properly funny

Stepfordian · 17/01/2025 19:39

You’re not wrong, it’s seems there’s a new type of comedy that seems like it should be funny, but just isn’t. See also: Schitt’s Creek.

Postchristmasblah · 17/01/2025 19:49

I really really love Ted Lasso. Warm, funny, doesn’t take itself seriously. There are a couple of crap episodes, but it’s got heart. Believe!

@PuppyMonkey sadly true.
