Welcome to the EastEnders spoilers thread, where we post and talk about any EE spoilers we've read about, including those in early release episodes on iPlayer.

Link below to watch episodes on BBC iPlayer - these are usually dropped at 6am on broadcast days - and you can read brief synopses of upcoming episodes:

Thank you for your reply @mumofoneAlonebutokay - I appreciate your perspective. I do see what you mean. But for me Reiss has always from the outset been labelled as a "weirdo" by viewers and other characters, and I'm just so tired of "weird" somehow always being equated to being autistic. Sadly there is very unlikely to be a properly positive portrayal of autistic characters in mainstream drama, because the autism always has to be seen as a plot device or learning opportunity for the viewers.
The best portrayal I've seen is in the CBBC show A Kind of Spark which shows a diverse representation of autism. But that has an autistic writer, autistic actors and autistic crew members at its heart. Non-autistic writers and actors are always going to portray autistic people as "other".

That's okay, this has been a good exchange of views

I agree, weird does not equal autistic at all and as a woman, it's incredibly exhausting having to mask around neurological people/in work

I defo used to come across as neurotypical until you got to know me, when i was working, whereas now that I'm not working I do think I've 'unmasked' quite a bit so seem more awkward.

I've also spent a lot of time reflecting on the social situations that I misunderstood, which could be why I've taken the reiss stuff personally 😄🤭

But agree, proper representation of the female autistic experience is needed, autism shouldn't be a plot device 🥺

Will Google the cbbc show x

So if Nige has dementia, what's up with Phil?

VivienneDelacroix · 08/01/2025 20:05

Phil's just a miserable bastard.

the80sweregreat · 08/01/2025 21:44

Phil has depression I think.
Only an uneducated guess, but he is certainly going through something!

Meredusoleil · 08/01/2025 22:03

I was wondering if Phil was liquidating all his assets as he was going to leave Albert Square and Walford behind and start a new life abroad somewhere?

In tonight's episode he said he was tired and done with it all. Maybe he needs a fresh start somewhere in the sun? Isn't Louise in Portugal with his granddaughter Peggy? Maybe he could move out there?

VivienneDelacroix · 08/01/2025 22:43

Grant must come back for a reason related to Phil. I'm sure they'll drag this out until the anniversary with him getting more angry, more isolated until it all gets too much and we hear "'ello Bruv".

MrsDThaskala · 08/01/2025 22:46

Yeah! Am sure they'll have his first line being "Ello Bruv"

the80sweregreat · 08/01/2025 18:24

Was it Nigel who slurped his tea?
They will never show the real problems with having dementia or Alzheimer's
It's just too harrowing for a soap.
I remember Sylvie and Aunt Babe
Babe was a great villain!

Was Nigel, Peter and someone else but I've forgotten who

Viewer23 · 09/01/2025 08:17

I think Phil was suicidal until Nigel came along. Today’s episode confirms it and prior to that all the signs of depression were there - isolation, negative thinking, lack of self care etc. I agree that the autistic characters on Eastenders are not portrayed as well rounded and are just shown as their diagnoses, which makes them less believable. It’s lazy writing. I didn’t think Reiss was autistic, I thought he was a manipulator but it now seems the scriptwriters are leaning into stereotypes of autism for him. I was excited about Kojo’s introduction but again they are reliant on stereotypes so we don’t get to know him as a character. Ditto Ollie, but to be fair he is largely in the kiddie cupboard like all the other children on Eastenders!

I find Nugget really unpleasant and I think he has always been sexist bordering on misogynistic, which is not surprising given he was raised by Ranveer. If I recall correctly he was involved in the misogynistic cyber bullying of Amy that triggered her self harming all that time ago.

Shellingbynight · 09/01/2025 08:18

Phil is depressed and I’m pretty sure is considering suicide. If he was moving away he would not give away property, he’d need the money. Where he's going, he doesn't need it. I guess either Sharon or Nigel contacts Grant.

And the family has a totally tin ear, barging round (with Teddy, who he hates) and deciding he has dementia. I didn’t find that believable at all and it was clearly designed to hammer home the fact they had the wrong target. Nigel has remarkable insight for someone with dementia, and has been diagnosed very early, both of which are very unlikely.

By the way Patsy P said on SM that she flew back to the UK ‘for work’ at the weekend so presumably she’s filming for end Feb.

usernother · 09/01/2025 09:51

Why didn't they just wash the blood stained shirt?

the80sweregreat · 09/01/2025 09:54

They must have a way of washing clothes as none of them ever look grubby.
Even a trip to the laundry wouldn't attract much attention with a bunch of other clothes, there is enough people living there
Juniors place has a washer , I'm sure I've seen it

the80sweregreat · 09/01/2025 09:55

What I mean is, Gina could put the shirt in juniors washer as she lives there

Southeastdweller · 09/01/2025 10:08

I couldn’t be doing with all that coming and going that Patsy does - the direct flight from Los Angeles to Heathrow takes 10 hours - but obviously it’s worthwhile for her. I wonder if the BBC pay for her flights.

Todays one was quite moving.
Such a contrast to Tuesdays one which was awful.
I do wish that Nigel would tell Phil why his back and why he can't take on the gym
Cindy is awake then ..

Southeastdweller · 09/01/2025 10:48

Yes, I too thought it was poignant. I liked seeing Phil be vulnerable with Nigel. I think that after decades of pushing people away, Phil is finally realising that we all need emotional support at times.

Ha ha ha!
The bloody shirt fiasco was another weak ' plot line' in order for Peter to have something to do and have some lines with Gina and Anna. Of course ,most normal folk would have washed it or disposed of it far away from the square.
Cut it up even.
Now he has a bit of ammunition and probably doesn't believe the punch up story on Christmas night either.
I know I'd be skeptical. 🤨
Yolande is the new Dot.
Reiss made me want to punch the tv in
Sign of a good actor

Shellingbynight · 09/01/2025 13:51

Anna and Gina are useless criminals😆
All they had to do was put the shirt in the sink with some bleach... done.

It's not just Gina and Anna though, George and Elaine allowed the girls to find a bin for the shirt! 😂

But before that we’ll see a Black cab arrive in the square and the camera will just focus on the feet of the person stepping out (literally how everyone arrives) until it slows pans onto Grant, gazing at the Vic with a moody look. Duff duff.

the80sweregreat · 09/01/2025 16:40

I'd love Grant to have a big entrance myself!
Maybe being chased across the market by some guys or on a zip wire across the Thames !
lol ( disclaimer , I know that such a wire doesn't exist )
But yeah, it'll be shoes getting out of a cab and a big old ' dug duf ' moment

the80sweregreat · 09/01/2025 16:40

*duf

There's no other way for an old character return. I think I've seen a clip of Lisa coming back (unless I imagined it) and this is exactly how she's going to arrive.
