Lockerbie - Sky Atlantic

Is anyone watching this? Stars Colin Firth as Jim Swire.

The first episode was horrifying when they depicted the plane crashing down on Lockerbie. The bodies, the baby, the seats, the woman hanging in a tree... the little boy who went out for a bike ride and then returned to a crater where his house once was. His whole family gone.

I wasn't even born when it happened, but I've read quite a bit about the politics and events that have followed. This may be a controversial 'drama' but it does illustrate the real horrors of that night.

I had never heard about him either. Goodness, what a thing. I can't even imagine what he was thinking when he found out what had happened.

Yes so strange that he's never mentioned. He was checked in and at the airport, but had too much to drink at the airport bar and was then late getting to the gate. He apparently argued and pleaded with Pan Am staff at the gate to be let in, but they refused and he watched the plane taxi to the runway (his luggage was still on the plane). He then stayed at the airport and when the plane went down he was arrested as the police thought it was his suitcase that exploded! His wife saw the news and thought he had died in the crash before getting a call form the police station. What unbelievable luck!

I think the BBC one is much better. The Sky one was too centred on Jim Swire. A lot of people worked hard on the investigation and supporting the families and it’s only fair their stories are told.

It was based on Jim Swire's book hence it being so centred on him. I guess it was his story from the attack.

The person who missed the plane, may possibly be based on someone I was at music college with at the time. Not really a friend of mine, but I knew who she was.
It was common knowledge when we all got back in the January that she should have been on the plane, and in fact had begged the staff to let her on, but thank goodness she didn't get on it.
She wasn't arrested though, nor was a suspect.

I wonder how many people actually missed that plane then.

I didn’t realise that. I gave up on that series.

I’d like to watch it, not sure I have Atlantic. I was friends at uni with two girls from Lockerbie, the stories they told of that day and the aftermath were horrific.

The BBC one focuses a lot on the people of Lockerbie and all the incredible things they did
