The call the midwife christmas special is on bbc 1 in 2 parts. The first part will be shown on christmas day at 20:00. The second part will be shown at 19:30 on boxing day. Series 14 will start on 5th January. I am suprised that it has not been renamed as the doctor Turner show.

When the Vanessa Redgrave bit started my husband said 'I always like this bit' which worried me until he said '... because it means it's about to end'. Can't argue with him.

The wardrobe department excelled itself with Trixie's outfits.

I'm on a slight delay but why are people Reggie has basically never met hugging him when he's come home? Do Miss Higgins' grandson or Trixie's brother even know him?

Just finished watching. Crying at the mother saying she would love her child regardless of whether he was disabled or not.

But also the bit where they were so kind to the escaped prisoner and treated him with such respect. I loved that they showed such compassion.

IIRC she had a breakdown after her miscarriage and so went home for a bit to recover. But that seems an awfully long time ago now?

Yes he paid for her to go home but then when he rang her he was told that she was at work. And that's it. She was basically not mentioned until the letter.

I laughed when Sister J told her that she'd arrange a solicitor for her.

When I was divorcing my own violent ex, I don't recall my boss getting on the blower to a lawyer for me.

Posh midwife seems to be being set up for Cyril more than married midwife though.

Ah well, I really enjoyed it. It's simple, kind and good spirited.

I missed the last couple of episodes of the end of the last series. Why/how does Miss Higgins have a grandson?

I remember the 1969/70 flu epidemic. A neighbour's baby died. I was only 5 but that entire day is etched on my mind in detail.

Think it was last year's Christmas episode where we learnt about
Miss H back story in India and a child who was adopted.

Nancy's boyfriend brings trouble I fear - addiction probably, note the mention of pethidine.

I hope Cyril can marry the posh midwife. Looks like a new nun arrives as well.

Trixie's brother must be gay. This is the BBC so someone has to be and be fully accepted even if it isn't historically accurate. When he was making chutney with the nun he was all "I feel HAPPY and I take great PRIDE"
