The call the midwife christmas special is on bbc 1 in 2 parts. The first part will be shown on christmas day at 20:00. The second part will be shown at 19:30 on boxing day. Series 14 will start on 5th January. I am suprised that it has not been renamed as the doctor Turner show.

Here we go, not even 10 minutes in and Dr Turner is going to swoop in already

Snowmenschilliballs · 05/01/2025 20:07

It would be a much more enjoyable series without the Turners.

I've already decided I'm not going to enjoy this series.

I stopped enjoying this programme years ago.

I don't know why I still watch it!!!

Why has she not gone back to her flat???

I think they had to sell it due to his financial troubles?

But why is Trixie back anyway? Doesn't she live with her husband in New York now?

I'm asking myself the same thing

suburburban · 05/01/2025 20:08

Sheila is so saccharine

He's moved to Holby and she doesn't want to admit he's in Bristol not New York

Toddlerteaplease · 05/01/2025 20:16

The dad is abusing Paula

witchycat2 · 05/01/2025 20:17

Why is Nancy already calling him Uncle Roger? Didn't he and Nancy meet only a couple of weeks ago?

Elderflower14 · 05/01/2025 20:17

I said to Mum that she was pregnant!!!!

witchycat2 · 05/01/2025 20:18

I mean Nancy's daughter

Snowmenschilliballs · 05/01/2025 20:19

It feels like the script writers are at GCSE scriptwriting level with predictable storylines. When did the IRA bomb London in the 70s? I feel thats the season ender.

89redballoons · 05/01/2025 20:20

There is potentially an interesting theme here to draw out about changing attitudes to religion and sex education (ie Paula's parents, and the negativity towards nuns being midwives), but I'm sure they'll do it in an incredibly obvious, un-nuanced way.

The background music is so over the top.

It's basically just a bad soap opera now, but it's a part of my Sunday nights in January and I still find it kind of entertaining.

Toddlerteaplease · 05/01/2025 20:16

The dad is abusing Paula

It's the only direction the story will go in. They only have room for one religious man and that's Mr doesnthaveaPersonality

witchycat2 · 05/01/2025 20:21

So is Nancy leaving?

LIZS · 05/01/2025 20:23

This will not end well.

Snowmenschilliballs · 05/01/2025 20:25

It's become Sunday night public information films

PrimalScreaming · 05/01/2025 20:26

Goodness but we're moving along quickly... Nancy is engaged and shipping out of Poplar, Colette has an Uncle / Step-dad and Trixie has come back from NY yet again and moved back in with the nuns despite having a whole family across the pond. Cyril is making eyes at the young midwife, yet as far as we know, he's still married to Lucille!

Snowmenschilliballs · 05/01/2025 20:26

"it's not me I've had a vasectomy" is not the ringing endorsement the dad thinks it is.

witchycat2 · 05/01/2025 20:28

@PrimalScreaming yes and Trixie is also step-mum to a young boy. It's ridiculous they're having her go back and forth from Poplar to New York as if it's 5 miles down the road

I don't think it's her father, I think someone else at the church

PrimalScreaming · 05/01/2025 20:29

I was born in 1970 via vaginal birth to mum who had my sister by caesarean 3 years earlier after many months bed rest! I don't think a second caesarean was ever mentioned.

Yet Trixie hasn't aged at all in the last 20 years

ImWearingPantaloons · 05/01/2025 20:31

Oh my....

Toddlerteaplease · 05/01/2025 20:32

You'd think the BBC would get their facts right. The Immaculate conception is not the same as a virgin birth!
