anyone see it ? I liked it a lot...was a bit shocked that Greta Scacchi has aged so, but suppose she must be 50 now...

I really enjoyed it too.

Was also shocked by Greta Scacchi, but really, really enjoyed it - the best bit of UK TV I've seen in ages. I'm a bit of a Janeite and was expecting to hate it, but it was great. I don't know the Jane actress at all but she was perfect.

Olivia Williams - think I've seen her in something else - dh likes her

yes I enjoyed it too and thought actress playing Jane was spot on.

Would they really have been waltzing? In the country?

And were those glasses from that era?

I read the Claire Tomalin biography a couple of years ago and think I may have to resurrect it again - I want to know more of the facts! The programme did remind me of her genius though - such a tiny social circle and so little knowledge of the world, yet she understood how people work so completely.

Greta Scacchi is 48 from what I gather - am obsessed about age !

Much better than that awful film version which was so boring I lasted about 10 minutes before switching over.

This Jane was much better, more believable and it made it an incredibly sad programme.

I too, really enjoyed it, having expected to hate it. I loved the way it was peppered with quotes from Persuasion, my favourite novel and the one I think whose heroine comes closest to expressing Jane Austen's own poignant, tragic life.

Enjoyed it very much.

I loved the woman playing Jane. Just how I would like Jane to be.

It did look beautiful. And interesting how everything was slightly different from the film of an Austen book -- the clothing less glamorous; everyone's movement more natural and slighly more uncouth.

I fell asleep in middle...am so cross I didnt tape it. She had just started fancying the cute doctor...can someone tell me what happened to that romance? (though he did look a wee young for her)

Doc started looking doe-eyed at the young neice and Jane got sad.

Then the young neice was scathing to Jane about having a crush on 'the butterfly doctor' and married a widower with six children.

hmm...i'll watch it then, thanks ladies!

MG it was bloody brill I thought. Olivia Williams was in that thing with Kevin Costner too, set in the future???

Thought young Fanny was a right drip though....simpering ninny...

I thought it was beautifully melancholy - caught just the right atmosphere.

We 'loves the la di da dramas' to quote Harry Hill, especially on a Sunday night. Strangely dh especially like them and he never strikes me as being the period drama type.

I was surprised at GS too. She looked older than late 40's. Maybe they made her up to look older.

Loved it. Sobbed a bit at the end.

I think no one in their late forties is going to look good with their hair up in a bun and little makeup.. But she did look rather bloated in the face.

I read an article on her this weekend in Times and that photo was a lot kinder....she's a bit bitter how she's not getting the roles and a bit touchy about her marriage to her first cousin
