I wonder if it's a test run to see how many complaints they get

Each to their own, but if I choose to have a short back and sides or a rugby mullet and pop on some fake facial hair and a mans suit or a mankini, should I not be allowed to? Including talking in a fake, deep voice and calling myself a daft name if I want to.
I'm not talking access to women's spaces. That's a whole different thing!

I assume as they have announced a man first then a drag artist using she/her that we will be getting 4 men and only 2 women in the Christmas special, hot on the heals of a man heavy main series it feels like a man taking a space from a woman to me.

MinaHarker1897 · 13/11/2024 16:43

TheShellBeach · 13/11/2024 14:57

It's not a question of pronouns or saying they're men.

Drag Queens appropriate womanhood by dressing as women, and they always have fake breasts and plunging necklines.

It's unacceptable. They wouldn't be allowed to use blackface. Everyone would be horrified if they did.

This is no different.

Yes, they never dress soberly as a woman, do they?

The equivalent is more like a very large obvious fake penis swinging around under a pair of grey jogger bottoms.

Hedgehogsmiles · 13/11/2024 19:11

No announcement tonight? The drag queen was very sweaty for the little dancing they did.

Hedjwitch · 13/11/2024 19:32

Completely off topic but I watched the lovely Hamza on a cookery programme with Mary Berry. He is lonely and hoping his improved cooking skills might attract a girlfriend. Does anyone have his address by any chance?

PS. I'll do the cooking.

Montell and Johannes Salsa to Don’t Leave Me This Way by Thelma Houston
Sarah and Vito Couple’s Choice to Padam Padam by Kylie Minogue
Tasha and Aljaz Paso Doble to Torn by Nathan Lanier
Chris and Dianne American Smooth to Jump by Paul Anka
Jamie and Michelle Jive to The Ketchup Song (Aserejé) by Las Ketchup
JB and Lauren Quickstep to Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley
Pete and Jowita Cha Cha to I’m Too Sexy by Right Said Fred
Wynne and Katya Charleston to Carmen Suite No.1: 5.Les toréadors by Georges Bizet

Meh to the songs.
Blackpool tram coming for Pete probably and they'll laud a bloody Fosse to Kylie to the hills. I'm too sexy has been used across the pond - for a Bachelor contestant with Jenna and another pro iirc. I'll dig it out.
And Bizet for a Charleston is a bit frenetic. A bullfighting Charleston or Five nights at Freddy's video gamer?! The mind boggles.

As to Tayce doing Xmas Strictly, I'll go against the grain and be damned.
Loved Courtney Act on DWTS Australia, loved Blu Hydrangea on DWTS Ireland, love the sass and the sequins and the artistry and the death drops and the shablam, razzmatazz of it all.
As does my daughter who is gay and went to a drag show September despite my warnings it might not be inclusive for her. In fact, she went to two in the gay village in Manchester and had a blast.
Strictly has always attracted a gay audience - drag is a big part of the gay culture for many viewers and there is a crossover audience (myself included) who are fans of both - Tayce was fab on Drag Race and I'm really looking forward to seeing them on it.
Each to their own. It would be good to see a Drag King on there too at some point (there are some good ones out there).

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 13/11/2024 20:17

I too liked Shane Jenek/Courtney Acts dances @BehindTheSequinsandStilettos

Crushed big time on Hamza - also love Matt Berry. I read somewhere he did the Heys/Hos on the Strictly theme tune! Grin
But yes, amazed Hamza is still single. Thought he'd be beating off superfans with a stick. Wink

MarkWithaC · 14/11/2024 08:25

The songs are largely novelty songs really.

Montell and Johannes: I can't quite think how they'll arrange the song for a salsa.
Tasha and Aljaz will be good but with no extra special fire; I find her highly competent but dull. Does she largely work as y a backing/group dancer? She doesn't have much personality when she dances.
I don't know the Kylie song, not by the title anyway. Sarah will be quite good but lack polish and Fosse spirit.
Chris and Dianne might just pull off their American Smooth.
Jamie and Michelle I'm just bored of.
Cannot imagine the arrangement for JB and Lauren's song for a quickstep.
Pete and Jowita will be a bit rubbish. I'm tired of him being one of the comedy contestants.
Speaking of which...

I think the Bizet suite might be good for a Charleston, but the dance will be beyond Wynne's capabilities.

MarkWithaC · 14/11/2024 08:26

Hamza does live in a fairly isolated part of western Scotland, doesn't he? Beautiful, no doubt, but probably a bit out in the wilds for a lot of people. Nice guy as he is, I'd also imagine he's wedded to his work in a way that would become wearing for a girlfriend.

Lovely Hamza deserves someone quite wonderful, kind and amazing.

That rules me out, as I'm a top bitch, but I do hope he finds a lovely relationship soon.

The Ardnamurchan Peninsula is very, very remote.
The road leading to it is poor.

It's really, really beautiful, though.

We live on the West Coast, and most of it is poor for transport links.

He needs someone who either has a hybrid lifestyle and is happy to come to the peninsula for e.g. weekends, or someone who loves the quiet remote life like he does.
I'd have thought there are women who work in the same field as him who share his love of the wilderness.
I'm freelance and need only a laptop and the internet. In another life I'd volunteer myself Grin

Oh blimey I’m a bit more optimistic than you😀
although I can’t disagree the song choices are odd. I think Wayne or Pete have come to the end of the road.

Elderflower14 · 14/11/2024 17:49

Evening all. Won't be watching live tomorrow as I'm going to Wilf for our Paddington weekend!

TennisWithDeborah · 14/11/2024 18:24

I’m in the minority because I’m quite looking forward to this weekend’s show. I really like that Kylie song and the Bizet suite, and I have a soft spot for I’m Too Sexy because it reminds me of underaged clubbing as a sixth former! I always enjoy the Blackpool episode as a rule. That’s usually my favourite one along with Halloween.

musicalfrog · 14/11/2024 19:23

I also love I'm Too Sexy, but can't say I'm a fan of the new Kylie stuff I'm afraid...

FagsMagsandBags · 14/11/2024 19:47

I'm not over keen on that Kylie song. I don't actively dislike it but it's very, very meh. I didn't know it had dodgy lyrics because I think my ears must have turned off to any words that weren't padum padum and then even turned off to those. I love some Bob Fosse so I'm disappointed that they're doing it to a number that really doesn't suit it. I'm a Sarah fan and I love their lifts and stuff but I am hoping for a bit less fanny flashing this week.

MarkWithaC · 15/11/2024 09:05

Just listened to the Kylie song. God, it's generic! Could have been any one of a number of female artists. I didn't find the lyrics dodgy, but they are a bit try-hard; phrases like 'use our words' and 'I know you're all in'. Embarrassing, like dad-dancing.

I can imagine how they'll arrange it for a Fosse-style number though. It might work OK.

I listened to it because of Strictly too and that's exactly what I thought.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 15/11/2024 10:33

So folks, I won't be here tomorrow night to do the thread. We are going to need one quite quickly as well

I haven't seen @PolkadotsAndMoonbeams on this thread so I don't know if she's about tomorrow

Would anyone care to volunteer themselves ?

It's just SCD 24 #12 Something as title NO SPOILERS

@CaveMum @BehindTheSequinsandStilettos ??

OP posts:
CaveMum · 15/11/2024 11:04

I can do the new thread if no one else wants to. I am about, my only caveat is how the smallest CaveChild is behaving and whether I need to get him to bed during the show!

Will put my thinking cap on for thread titles!
