The constant dress-up and imitating a third party (whether it be a ghoul or an 'icon'), surely only adds yet another level of pressure onto the poor contestants.

They've got enough going on just learning the dance, I would have thought. It's not really fair.

Reminds me a bit of the constant need to be on the ball when you've got more than one kid at primary school and keeping up with all the events, trips and sponsorships etc. Just overwhelm for overwhelm's sake.

An aspect of modern life that I'm not a huge fan of. In case that wasn't clear ☺️

musicalfrog · 02/11/2024 21:34

Anyway, I'm off to have naughty dreams about Vito (I hope 🤞🤞💘😁)

GrouchyKiwi · 02/11/2024 20:48

There is a poster - apparently a PBP - who comes on each week with a name change and is racist, ableist, and just plain unpleasant.

I know it's not you, don't worry!

I have absolutely zero idea why that post was deleted?? I don't recall what I even said but I'm pretty certain it wasn't offensive?? Really fed up!!

Frostytree · 02/11/2024 22:09

Lauren has been dancing since age 2(apparently) and Amy started from age 8 so I can well imagine ,admiring a great dancer the same age or slightly younger than me.

LaMarschallin · 02/11/2024 20:55

When he said "That sounded better in my head"?
I was wondering that too - definitely missed whatever it was.
Anybody know?

Something along the lines of he had just danced a tango so somebody else will now have to dance a Fanta due to BBC advertising rules. He kind of mumbled it though and I don’t think most people heard him so it was met with silence.

A decent enough pun! I didn’t catch it and I don’t think the audience/Tess did. It would’ve got a polite laugh I think.

I find constant jokes a bit tedious but I know that many viewers enjoy them.

SpeculatingRooks · 02/11/2024 22:41

I think Sarah missed a trick by not wearing an "Italians Do It Better" tshirt!

youheard · 02/11/2024 22:50

just caught up. Terrible idea to do a theme week like this – it was stars in their eyes b-tech. I probably enjoyed Sarah and Vito the most, just because I love Vito so much and it was good but it was crazy fast. Montell’s was beautiful but the dark costumes and set didn’t show off the best advantage. Wynn -camptastic. Sam is not Taylor Swift and shouldn’t have even dared. Chris hit a wall. for too much judges praising people for their back stories and general parading of little children annd bleating about mental health issues.

As someone said in the previous thought it was all a bit ITV.

Romeiswheretheheartis · 02/11/2024 23:45

If I never see another wig again on Strictly it'll be too soon. I don't know why they do it - they always look shocking, nothing like the hair of who they're meant to be, and age the wearer by about 30 years.

Those trousers of Vitos have been well worn this season haven't they - first Gorka, then i think it was Carlos who wore them dancing to a singer (?) and now Vito.

Might not have gone down well after the abrupt exits of both Giovanni AND Graziano! Vito working incredibly hard (winning Strictly last year, Master Chef this year) to single-handedly restore the reputation of Italian men in British TV-land, but still too soon for that t-shirt, I think 😂

Foxxo

its not that far of some of the awful things that keep being said on these threads each week really.

Quite.
A PP asked at the end of the last thread if Nancy (obviously dressed as Paul) was dressed as Yoko Ono. That thread ended, so they repeated it on this one. Because Nancy is Chinese and Yoko was Japanese, geddit?
Very unnecessary and, at best, a childish joke. At worst, racist.

God who can be bothered to name change every week to make unfunny weird comments like this then get banned?

Figgygal · 03/11/2024 08:50

Just watched it
It was pretty dire even Sarah and Vito were lacking. Was good to see Lauren I did enjoy JB.
I still haven't got a favourite but I'd like to see Pete and Shane stay no idea who to go

Figgygal · 03/11/2024 09:12

Just a warning don't go on X the spoiler is in my news feed so not sure how widely its been shared but I hadn't looked for it at all. Bugger

GrouchyKiwi · 03/11/2024 09:14

I also recommend avoiding any videos on SCD Facebook as some wazzock always spoils on them and the admin aren't very quick to delete.

Inkanta · 03/11/2024 09:54

Just looked it up that Lauren is a year younger than Amy! When Amy said she enjoyed watching Lauren when she was 8 I'd assumed Lauren must be 10 years older or something.

MabelMora · 03/11/2024 10:18

Really awkward when the 10s were rolling in for JB and Lauren and emotional Amy was hovering like the spectre at the feast desperately trying to look happy for them. A difficult situation all round!

Why did they waste the absolute belter Like a Prayer on a cha cha cha? It didn't suit at all - should have been their samba song, lots of bounce, and Sarah should've been in a brown strappy dress with a dark wig. Fully on board with Vito's flamboyant backing dancer though 😍.

MouldyCandy · 03/11/2024 10:27

If they repeat Icons week next year (I hope not. Wasn't this a 20th series special?) who are they going to pick if 10 of the big names have already gone?

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 03/11/2024 10:44

Also to add Mail Online mentioned something about the spoiler. I've not read it just in case they did mention who leaves.

I thought this - a new partner comes in and suddenly the scores rocket up. Massively helped by its being a Couples Choice though - the judges always have to mark those generously otherwise it looks as if they’re unsympathetic to whatever sad story underpins the dance…

Redcrayons · 03/11/2024 10:52

Im very glad to see the BBC commitment to delivering value for money for the licence payers. When does Alijaz get his turn?

Brotherhood of the travelling pants!

MarkWithaC · 03/11/2024 11:21

Not a vintage week, was it?
Judges' costumes were largely terrible. Craig looked worrying convincing as Barry Gibb. I agree Motsi should have been Diana Ross. Anton was dressed from a charity shop. And I HOWLED at 'Cousin It' – spent most of the show trying to think who she reminded me of and that was it exactly Grin
Pete went too wrong too much. Good lifts and good characterisation though. I still like him.
I surprised myself by enjoying Wynne. Not much dancing, but as always with Katya it was like a one-act play. And the singing won me over. I'm clearly not a tough crowd Grin

I agree with pps Chris may have plateaued. Then again, maybe it was just the somewhat underwhelming song and the fact that tango is rarely a wow dance. His footwork still looks good to me.
Sam was a bit sickly, but nicely danced. Wonder if she'll get the little-kid vote? Otherwise I suspect she may be in trouble.
Jamie had the wrong music for a samba and I didn't like the choreo. Too clean and not earthy enough.
Tasha was bound to get high scores for the tearjerker story. She's good but I don't get a sense of connection between her and Aljaz.
JB was good but he was bound to be; he's clearly done lots of that style of dancing before. Nice to see Lauren though. Is Amy coming back? She looked brave but sad, like she isn't.
Sarah I just don't quite get. Didn't enjoy it; it looked frantic and tense to me, not cheeky, and the hips weren't quite going cha-cha style or rhythm as far as my untutored eye could see. Vito's wedgie suit made my eyes water Grin God love him, I think in his alternative fantasy life he's one of Madonna's dancers from back in the day.
Montel and Johannes just look so darned glamorous all the time. Very beautiful and graceful, sensitive routine. I liked their dance the best, I think. Surprisingly good singing considering it's Whitney, although I do agree with pps that her version is an egregious misreading of the song's sentiment.
Shayne I just find forgettable. Terrible routine IMO but that was because it was a tricky song selection. I think Nancy did her best.
Lots of people crowded around the 30 mark this week. This is when voter favourites start to become clear. I'll be interested to see if Jamie is popular or if he's been getting through so far by dint of being at the top.

Aljiaz is too unfit for those pants at present! I was really worried by his breathing after his dance yesterday. He seems massively out of condition even now we’re half way through the competition.

I agree - I think she's a beautiful dancer but the choreography seems too manic and fast to me.There is no time to breathe. The Argentine Tango the same. Would like to see her dancing more understated - showing off her skills and beautiful lines.

I'm glad Amy is ok but it was really uncomfortable having her there! She really needs to back off & rest & let her celebrity shine rather than making it all about her.
