This is amazingly cynical of me, but I wonder whether Kieran came on for a bit of fame and a bit of a laugh and has got scared that Kristina is there for a real relationship and actually doesn't want to hurt her, but also just wasn't ready (or in the show) for a relationship in the first place.

I think that part of the problem is that he holds his own feelings back so they can't give him support because he acts as though he doesn't need it.

I think it probably makes it even harder as K has a condition which essentially excuses her from taking accountability for what might be quite challenging behaviour for a partner. I don't know what form it takes as they've only touched on it but at best it could be extreme emotional vulnerability, at worst nasty aggressive behaviour.
