who is Joe?

Joe Sugg. Introduced as YouTuber at the time in 2018. Dianne's celeb partner and boyfriend since.

I think he does the podcast.

I agree with the 5s and 6s. She was plesantly competant and I think particularly with her professional background she performs decently. I've seen far worse performers by this stage. It was also a subtle dance style to perform to. I find her more engaging in character than some of the other dancers. She gets the enjoyment vote from me.

Couldn't agree more. I really enjoy watching her dance and I like her and Gorka together.

What would the agenda be, though? None of the past winners that I can think of have suddenly had a massive BBC career off the back of it?

Maybe 'agenda' isn't quite the right word, but I do feel most years that the producers/judges have an idea from the start about who they like and don't like and who they want to do well.

I must say, I sensed this with Angela R and Blackpool.

I wonder if an agent can say, “my client will do it but they must stay at least until Halloween” or whatever.

I’d imagine that a celeb releasing an album or a book for Christmas would want to secure a stay until mid-Nov at least. Whether “wants” = “gets” …who knows 🤷‍♀️

Oh I know, they totally engineered getting her to Blackpool, and sacrificed Krishnan for it by making him do a samba the previous week.
One reason I dislike the new format of everyone doing random dances is it makes it so easy for the producers to gerrymander the DO and its likely outcome.

I also saw that Chris has a comedy tour booked for Feb, so (allegedly) it's giving the producers a bit of a headache as he wouldn't be able to do that and the Strictly tour

CollaterlieSistersSister · 23/10/2024 10:41

I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a BBC/ producer/ whatever agenda.

But as one of the voting public with no dance knowledge at all, I vote for entertainment. And I suspect I’m in the majority.

I genuinely look forward to Chris each week, but Punam is getting all my votes currently as her enthusiasm absolutely shines through.

This with bells on. Bring back fairness in the early weeks and I'd even nix the dance off personally

Yes I think the dance off puts the power back in the judges hands. I would prefer a straight decision where the bottom person goes once the maths is completed between judge and public vote.

This is what happened for a few years

but it made a total mess of the Sunday show though- they had a whole show to fill up with “the decision” and no dance off. That was a waste of space.

For me, the biggest issue was going from 3 to 4 judges. The head judge getting the "casting vote" means that she has twice the power of the others. Her choice will win in every single situation, EXCEPT when all three judges vote against her, which doesn't happen often.

ie, if I have worked it out correctly, when we remove Shirley from the equation, there are 8 permutations of how the other judges could vote in the DO.

Shirley's choice would go through in 6 out of those 8 possibilities.

It's always been four judges?

I voting for Punam as she has such joy. It's how I hope I'll be when they finally have me on as a contestant 😂

my mistake - however, the point still stands. The head judge shouldn't have SO much more power than the others

@Romvalley

I'm sorry you're upset but I think perhaps you are being a bit oversensitive because you know the person. I don't think anyone on here has been nasty or vicious to Jamie in a targeted way. Yes, comments are blunt, but all contestants are open to critique and that's part of going on the show, fans will have opinions

NO ONE on this thread is thinking "I know I'll deliberately upset Jamie's mum...."

The poster has commented on his awful costume and said she thought he was lacking in a specific technique. Both valid remarks

Please don't take any comments to heart. Flowers

I disagree with no Spanish line or artistry. I definitely saw that. I'd still say it shouldn't have been getting tens. Nines and eights because it was very good but far from perfect. I haven't really warmed to him and I blame the judges for that because most weeks he is overmarked. Not by a lot but enough for it to be really annoying when you see other dancers undermarked. I'm especially looking at you Craig and your fours for Punam which are not justified.

Re additional needs. I had no idea that Jamie had any additional needs.

TennisWithDeborah · 23/10/2024 18:20

Jamie has spoken in other interviews about his anxiety and autism. He’s also emetephobic. I don’t think he’s touched on these topics much in SCD other than to talk about his beige food, which is linked sometimes to autism (I believe).

I was also completely unaware of this. I meant to add that to my post.

I haven't said anything personal about his body shape Hmm
I mean shaping in the sense of creating the line required for a paso (hips forward to create a slightly arched back; strong, backward-leaning shoulders; distinctly flamenco-style shaping and carriage of the arms and hands.

Agree with op, I think you've potentially misconstrued a comment. Saying someone is lanky and therefore doesn't have the paso shaping isn't "coming for" them.

I don't doubt for one second that Jamie is lovely, he comes across as very kind and very likeable. I didn't know people are having a go at him online - surely it must be purely about being (in some opinions) over marked, as he's not done or said anything to merit unkind comments?

xsquared · 23/10/2024 21:34

I watched ITT this evening, and Jamie and Michelle, Montell and Johannes, Chris and Dianne and Gorka and Punam were all on.

Haven't known them to do this many couples in one evening before! Anyway, I thought Jamie came across very well in his interview. While he is pleased with the pas on Saturday, a new week and new dance brings you back to zero. A bit disappointed that they are being dressed as Wednesday and Pugsley as I think Michelle would look gorgeous as Morticia, and being dressed as the Gomez and Morticia would be make the dance more sophisticated rather than slapstick comedy.

Montell and Johannes looking competent with the cha cha cha. They seem very happy, and comfortable with together I smiled when Jojo said meeting Montell's family felt like he was meeting the in laws!

Chris isn't keen on the samba, but the training video is looking very good. I am amazed how synchronised they are.

Punam and Gorka also seem very smiley and happy. She enjoyed the VW, but I agree with Anton telling her that she needs to keep up the momentum, and not be hesitant, because she is otherwise a lovely dancer or words to that effect. There was a wonderful clip of her and Sam twirling about in their beautiful dresses. Punam loves being glammed up for Saturday, as she lives in scrubs and leggings during the week.
They will be tangoing as dog pirates. Training clip doesn't look too bad, so I hope Punam pulls off a decent performance on Saturday.

I really enjoyed this episode as I like all the couples in it.

what the actual

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 24/10/2024 05:25

And even me - who loves Halloween - would happily forfeit it if they keep on reviving the frigging time warp.

Every sodding year, I come up with a list of songs not yet used by them and every sodding year, they screw it up.
