Paul looked like he couldn’t wait to leave. I hope next year their give Karen a decent partner, it would be nice to see her in the final.
I agree about Amy. She isn’t my favourite pro. I expected her to try the sympathy vote.
I think Chris will be on the final with possibly Wayne and Jamie.
I think Jamie is consistently overmarked. He can dance but there was something missing from his performance last night.

He just leaves me cold.

Pumpkincozynights · 21/10/2024 08:46

Get not try.

Pumpkincozynights · 21/10/2024 08:51

Oh and the costume department. Are they sharing drugs with Paul?
The outfits have been dreadful this year. A couple or two get to have very nice decent outfits but the rest, well I have no words.
Have the BBC slashed the budget this year? Or is Vicky just rubbish?
Several dancers getting their feet stuck in costumes- Nadia for one and Shirley mentioned Sam getting caught in her dress which was very long.

But that would make it an English word, which it's not

I would say it’s Wenglish. As a Welsh speaker I would spell it cwtsh Dan star (cupboard under the stairs) though.

I Know nothing about him, apart from his 8 kids by 3 marriages.
I hate football so avoid it.
but I still would rather a novice like hi stayed it than a ringer.

Ah, so yes, we are ignoring the abusive side of him.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 21/10/2024 08:45

@ilovesooty what was wrong with JB's attitude? I thought nerves seemed to get the better of him as his dance off performance was full of errors from the get go.

To me he seemed really annoyed by being in the dance off at all. I appreciate that it was my perception though.

I think he might have been thinking of when Aston and Janette got booted off at a similar stage in the competition.

I remember it was very contentious at the time.

virgocatlover · 20/10/2024 20:12

I feel mean saying this because I think as a person she's lovely, but does anyone else find Amy's choreography a bit too 'twee' and cutesy? They seem the same no matter who she's paired with too.

Totally agree..I actually think she is probably the weakest pro female.
Her and JB are just dull to watch.
I actually think with anyone else JB would have been better.

That's a good point.

TennisWithDeborah · 21/10/2024 12:59

There is an expectation - possibly -of JB to help make Amy’s return a triumphant one, Blackpool minimum. Not from Amy I should add, but from the producers and maybe the public. JB to his credit might be putting pressure on himself, not wanting to let her down.

The producers avoided partnering Amy with Uncool Dad Dancers Nick, Paul or Wynne for this reason I think. As it happens, Wynne is surprisingly competent but the other two have been early boots as predicted. JB was probably expected to reach Blackpool with minimal fuss and he was maybe cognisant of this on Saturday, which added stress to his DO.

I didn't get that from him at all - he seemed deflated and then his DO was full of errors so I think he was nervous/upset.

2Rebecca · 21/10/2024 16:27

I agree that the costumes have been more " dressing up costumes" rather than beautiful sparky ballroom extravaganzas. All the naff themes don't help. I love Blackpool but would scrap movie night Halloween and couples choice dances. I'd have more purely orchestral dances as well. Most ballroom doesn't have singing

Agree. When they do the costume 'reveals' on the mannequins on ITT I always think how rubbish they look. I know they're often not the finished article, but I'm sure in earlier years they looked much more professional and glamorous.

the80sweregreat · 21/10/2024 16:48

A few costumes are nice ( occasionally) but I agree they were far more polished in the early days. Now it seems it's done on a shoe string !

pinkteddy · 21/10/2024 17:30

Twonewcats · 21/10/2024 00:34

Amy, I love her as a person and she's utterly incredible to be dancing with a partner this year. Actually, I still cannot understand how she's fit enough to do it at all.
But her pointy twee jive move infuriates me so much 😆

Me neither, I worry that she will crash and burn. Most people I know that have survived cancer have had to massively cut down their work/life balance - at least to begin with.

Samcro · 21/10/2024 14:09

Yes, I read what you said and you were very clear that you'd still rather he stayed in than a ringer.

Samcro · 21/10/2024 19:35

You said I was ignoring his abuse.

What else could that mean? I said he was abusive. You said that you didn't know about that, and that you'd still rather he went through than a ringer. It's very clear, although it's maybe not what you meant.

Samcro · 21/10/2024 21:20

I’m not going to keep arguing with you.
spoils the thread for others.

I would rather a non dancer stayed in than a ringer. Not necessarily him

BogRollBOGOF · 21/10/2024 23:05

That's the second time a decent first performer's had a shock dance off then done worse second time round. I wonder if the length of time between first performance and repeat hasn't helped, plus not mentally expecting to be one of the most likely contenders to be in that position.

It's pretty open now, and more about popularity than skill for a few weeks.

This series, I'm not finding a strong correlation between aptitude and enjoyment. Some of the strongest dancers are dull, and some of the mediocre, now weaker have engaging performances.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 21/10/2024 23:48

Paul's Latin shirt was pretty traditional, which I liked.

But men's Latin trousers do not have pockets for a very good reason, and five seconds of Pete's rumba will show you exactly what that is. Wardrobe, please take note.

I remember Tristan saying that wardrobe were putting some of the men in high street off-the-peg trousers and jackets which were difficult to dance in.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 22/10/2024 11:16

I don't understand why they don't give all the men a pair of black Latin trousers as default, and then give them something different only if necessary. You can dance in normal trousers, but if you're dancing competitively and the aim is to show off your lines and hip action, then wear something designed for that.

I have a halterneck swimsuit that is great for dipping in the pool on holiday, but I wouldn't wear it for a triathlon!

Normal jackets are hopeless for dancing — the shoulders need to be cut properly, otherwise when you raise your arms the shoulders fold when they need to stay flat. If you want something off the peg, then waistcoats are much better.
