I always remember how praised Roger was for how well he managed his schedule and never got injured (until near the end). Pretty much every other player on tour didn't have that luxury at the time- it wasn't that they were feckless. He could choose to not play in 'mandatory' tournaments that other players had to play- because of how many matches he had won, and his age.
Seeing players now (supposedly really fit) who are in their mid to late 20s looking dead on their feet because of the overstuffed schedule, really can't be good for the game.
Maybe that's why the top players will end up in Saudi Arabia- one short tournament, a massive pay cheque, and then it won't matter if they have to pay any penalties for missing 'mandatory' tour events in the future. The ATP will have themselves to blame, really.
