"... the thing that goes wrong every single time on these programmes is if the bride isn't slim. It seems as though anything else is acceptable except extra weight. I could never put myself through that - it would be too humiliating.
Oddly enough the women never seem to say that about the men."

I agree but I think the female equivalent to men liking slimmer women, is women liking taller men. Whether women are tall or short they seem to prefer tall men.

Most of the women I know who say they want a tall man is because it makes them feel smaller and less self-conscious. So it feels like in part that preference just comes back to women wanting to be small.

I’ve just caught up on the show- and the thread! Both entertaining but the thread much more so. I’ve been laughing my socks off at your comments, you witty bunch.

Agree with everything said about Shitlid. What a ludicrous man! Props to Polly for being committed to giving it a go anyway but the only reason to do that is because she wants her 5 minutes of fame to extend to a few weeks- that’s why the vast majority of them are on the show, after all. There is obviously no chance of a relationship, or probably even a friendship when he has nailed his colours to the mast at such an early stage. Looks are important to him, and he doesn’t fancy her so it’s dead in the water. It’s all very well his friend suggesting he get to know Polly and that her personality might win him over, but Shitlid is clearly not the sort of person who is capable of this as he has no depth at all. It’s all just surface.

So much truth in what he says about wanting someone ‘unreal’. That is literally the problem with so many of these young men- their expectations come from OnlyFans, Pornhub and Insta and are therefore ‘unreal’.

I've always wanted to see the same on Love Island. Normal people in their 30's and beyond. Not too much to ask, surely?

I get the impression Paul B is sick to the back teeth of seeing damaged, fame hungry people, but hey, it pays well. You'd think at this point in the game they actually might have some clout, but it doesn't seem like it.

No Paul has no clout left at all.Anyone see celebs go dating where Stephen gogglebox was told off by Paul who said that he’d get nowhere in life if he continued his behaviour? It was clear that Stephen must have threatened to leave the show or something without an apology so Paul had to take it back , even though what he’d said was spot on.

BloodyWolves · 21/09/2024 14:22

I’ve just binged all of this weeks episodes and an observation that I’ve noticed over the last three seasons… why is it always the men complaining that the (usually far more attractive than them!) women are not attractive enough!?

For instance Shitlid, if I was Polly I would have replied with relief over the news of not being up to his usual standard! It would have been a ‘thank fuck for that! You weren’t doing it for me either!’
I don’t believe for a second that all of these women are genuinely soooo attracted to these tangoed Lego men. I’d love to see the tables turned because I really don’t think a lot of these guys have the emotional intelligence to handle that kind of rejection with the same class that the women seem to.

Maybe but also men have a feeling of not wanting to be small. A larger woman might make them feel smaller by comparison!

So, it is all based on our stereotypical view of men being big and women being small! (Which I am not!)

Doubleraspberry · 21/09/2024 14:34

@Italiangreyhound yes you are quite right. Height is part of being manliness and always has been! I was just a bit interested to think that there are women who turn it back on themselves none the less as in general men prefer women to be smaller than them and to be ‘petite’ in general.

I think it is because as you and others say, having had 'attention' from or their attention being drawn to women who are paid to pay attention via porn, or paid to look a certain way via Instagram, they think this is normal and real, where as it is neither.

Women, are also socialized to be nice, play nice and not say awful things. I do believe that is changing slightly but, the conditioning of a long time to be nice, is hard to shake off. I am nearly 60 and have not done it yet!

I also know this show is hugely, unpleasantly, potentially abusively, manipulative. They have taken women (and some men) with real issues around bullying and appearance and have put them in positions where they will be bullied about their appearance, or certainly spoken down to, on national telly/the internet.

I do wonder if they have any kind of safeguarding officer/policy!!

Italiangreyhound · 21/09/2024 17:00

I am normally a big watcher of this programme but the last week has been so busy with work! Finally, time to get back into it!

The one real benefit of the programme is the people who might never have found each other, Kieran and Kristina.

Personally, I think the Eve and Charlie situation is, again, created by the show's manipulation! They found a woman who falls hard and fast and matched her with a woman who needs space! I can see it from both sides, they are not compatible. Neither seems willing to see it from the other's side.

Polly seems lovely and the Radio Times says "I'm excited to go into the unknown," said Polly ahead of the show, and she wants to find someone emotionally available, considerate and thoughtful."

https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/entertainment/reality-tv/married-at-first-sight-uk-2024-cast/

So, why, oh why, was she matched with Adam who dates 'unreal' brunettes and doesn't really seem ready to take this seriously. Maybe he will surprise us all. Maybe the whole thing is hugely manipulated and underneath that brash exterior is a man looking for love.

The cast of Married at First Sight UK 2024. They are all posing on a wedding cake in their suits and dresses.

Nathan at 34 seems a bit too young for this programme, but he is cute and I think he does respect Lacey.

I actually think those two may have a shot at it! Although, Nathan made the mistake of thinking her sister was the bride, I think that was totally set up. It has happened before with Adam...

https://www.tiktok.com/@e4/video/7005521653107068166?lang=en

Where I think it was a genuine mistake.

Emma's comment about I'm size 14, I'm not a monster is a double edged sword, because it implies if she were very big, she would be a monster. As someone larger than a size 14, I found that very offensive, even though I know she didn't mean it that way.

Ross seems like a nice guy, maybe he has been manipulated into saying lots about sex because Sacha is celibate! I am really not sure about her, she seems nice but all the superstition and celibacy thing is a bit over the top. She's not in a relationship so she is not sleeping with anyone. It's not the end of the world. Something old, new, blue and borrowed is pretty standard at a wedding.

Quite nice what the traditions mean.

So, I think the only ones so far with a chance are K & K, N & L, and R & S!

Wedding Traditions: Silver Sixpence In Her Shoe | What is it?

A wedding has many traditions for the bride, including a silver sixpence in her shoe. Read our blog to understand more about the tradition.

Italiangreyhound · 21/09/2024 17:18

Lastly, I think Caspar is probably a good guy, he was backed into a corner by having to say what he felt. He is entitled to not want to date someone who looks like and sounds like his sister. Was this an accident, or was this also set up. MAFS should be spelled M A N I P U L A T I O N!

Appalonia · 21/09/2024 17:20

In case anyone is having MAFS withdrawal symptoms, the MAFS Hysteria podcast has 2 episodes up. One of the female co hosts is VERY annoyed about the situation both Emma and Polly have been put in, with v average men complaining about their weight. Feels good to hear that voiced on what is essentially a comedy podcast.

One funny thing that they said on MAFS Hysteria is that, these days there are no sixpence coins. So they were speculating whether she had to shove a 5 pence piece and a penny into her shoe or maybe 3 2 pence pieces! 😂

Dillite2 · 21/09/2024 17:24

I want to see these unreal exes that Adam has dated in the past.

You can buy a silver sixpence for £2.99 off the interweb!

You can never see them. They are unreal.

A bit like Scrooge and Jacob Marley's ghost, an undigested bit of beef, a crumb of cheese etc.

Watching these on catch-up next day because 9pm is too late for MAFS, I wish they would put it on at 7.30pm and edit the swearing like MAFSAU. Anyway my main takeaway is the state of young men’s hairstyles is shocking, they look like they have shaved their heads and put a badly placed wig on top, and the worst offender is a fucking hairdresser!

Monpetitchoumonpetitepois · 21/09/2024 17:57

The gym dad weirdly popped up on my Facebook under people you may know. I couldn't resist and looked at his profile which showed sacha's. She has a fringe now and I think based herself on sabrina carpenter. She doesn't have any comments from her husband but she does have comments from Lacey and her twin Paige, so she's obviously friends/kept in touch with them

I can’t understand the mentality at all of the pairing of the bigger women with men who specifically want/ expect a petite woman?
If I was paired with a man who fancied women totally different than my type, I wouldn’t be arsed to make an effort to prove myself, I’d just assume that was how he was wired and know all efforts to ‘prove myself’ would be in vain , because I’d know that if that ‘type’ turned up down the line, my relationship would feel very insecure.
I mean ,also they’re very unattractive men seeking supermodel types and that would be an indicator of the way they view women but , how can the women be bothered? Must just be for the pay cheques/ insta famousness, I’d just be gone on the wedding day tbh.

Mosharella · 21/09/2024 18:07

Presumably they’re gonna bring in an unreal Michelle Keegan-alike sooner or later to set the cat amongst the pigeons but here’s hoping they bring in a hot hot man who appreciates a curvy woman instead.

Yes, I saw that and noted how it really played into Stephen's massive ego. He was smirking throughout Paul's grovelling apology.

There have been much bigger 'celebs' on CGD, and they are usually nowhere near as self absorbed as he is. And you're right, he did deserve it. His behaviour was utterly appalling.

Sorry, I didn't think it was a spoiler as I don't think any of the wives and husbands are allowed to comment on each other's social media.

Good point re socials - I was asked to put it in the title as I forgot, so assume we stay away from posting anything not
