This is a heartbreaking episode.

Thank you for the thread.

I didn't realise we were at the end of the last one.

MadisonAvenue · 04/09/2024 14:25

Me neither, I couldn’t work out why my reply wouldn’t submit

Grin That was me, thought my laptop was frozen.

A million in the UK with dementia. Awful.

And no, Binglebong, carrying on from the other thread Dad is no longer with us. He died about 18 months ago, after 4 or 5 years with increasingly bad dementia. I also identify in this episode with Ciaran, it's so difficult being the adult child in this situation.

Doctors does do a lot of nonsense, but can be very effective with this sort of episode.

Raahh · 04/09/2024 14:28

This almost feels like a last episode.

I can't see how they will do better than that. It was nicely understated.

My heart goes out to everyone whose loved ones are or have been affected by dementia. We lost my father in law 24 years ago, he was only 66, it’s awful to see a loved one going through this cruel disease.

Great thread title, but very sad storyline. My FIL had dementia, died 5 years ago. Took about 5 years from onset of obvious symptoms to death (in his 80s), he was very strong physically and hung on to the bitter end. We were willing him to go for months as it was torturous for everyone really.

Binglebong · 04/09/2024 14:35

Horrible, horrible illness. It affects everyone around you.

Misthios · 04/09/2024 14:45

It does, and you'd be hard pushed to find anyone who hasn't been affected, either by a parent or grandparent being affected, or someone in their wider circle.

I didn't really watch Doctors when it started in 2000 as I was still working full time, I probably started in autumn 2005 when I had had my second child, I definitely remember George and baby Bracken, and Helen.

Have just stumbled across a website about the actress who plays Kirsty and she is Australian.

Mind. Blown.

JoanChitty · 04/09/2024 16:06

I’ve just caught up with today’s episode. Heartbreaking but so beautifully done. Funny to see Ciaran all grown up, I think he’s about 2 in the morning episodes .

My mil is suffering with this horrible illness and it’s awful. sometimes she’s quite lucid but then she rambles on talking complete nonsense. She was absolutely fine until March this year when she suddenly changed almost overnight.
i just hope she can find some sort of peace.

Yes, not sure why they didn’t give her background story as being Australian so that she could’ve used her own accent rather than a bad Birmingham one 😂

I thought her bad Brummie accent was just how she spoke naturally!!!! (Apologies to anyone from the Midlands). And yes, they could have easily come up with a reason why the receptionist was Australian.

No, we've never understood why they made her a Brummie, it's obvious it's not her accent, and made her really annoying when she first came into the show.Grin

I think before this, I'd only seen her in an old episode of 'Father Brown', and iirc, she used her own accent in that.

MadisonAvenue · 04/09/2024 17:47

Apology accepted 😂

Yes, came over here while travelling, met that dope of a husband and stayed. Easy.

Hasn’t she lived in Birmingham for years though? and when Kirsty had that boyfriend, Dave, that’s her real life husband.

Raahh · 05/09/2024 14:05

Where does Scarlett live now?

I get confused with her moving around.

Raahh · 05/09/2024 14:12

I'm not sure I'd want to do my BP at the hairdressers.

I hate having my hair cut, it would probably shoot up.

But then, I haven't been to a hairdresser in years.

Raahh · 05/09/2024 14:12

Isn't it lucky for Jamal that Rob just happens to know Ruhma- who happens to be Muslim?

Raahh · 05/09/2024 14:16

Scarlett's flat mate is going to be up to something totally innocent, isn't she?
Hopefully! And Luca has her down as doing Only Fans in the bedroom.

BooseysMom · 05/09/2024 14:16

My DF told me to watch the Legacy episodes as my f-in-l has dementia. He knows who we all are at the moment but gets very confused.

DF loved All Creatures Great & Small and said that Christopher Timothy was in Doctors. He played the ex GP with dementia part beautifully. He's such a brilliant actor.

I'm so sad that Doctors is finishing this year. DF is gutted. He watches it every day.

Raahh · 05/09/2024 14:23

Doing the test once doesn't there is a problem though- the anticipation of doing the test probably made his blood pressure go up in the first place, if he was worried.

Raahh · 05/09/2024 14:27

Poor Scarlett!
