Three brilliant documentaries

I wanted to share three documentaries that I've seen over the last year that have stayed with me:

Erebus - tragic, follows the rescuers sent to recover the frozen bodies after a plane crash. It's so visceral and my heart went out to them all.

Misha and the Wolves - follows a the story of a little girl, forced live in the wild whilst trying to find her way back to Germany from Belgium during the Nazi war. It's full of twists and turns - completely fascinating

The Mission - national geographic, tells the story of a young missionary attempting to take the word of Jesus to an island with its own complex native population totally untouched by our way of life and religion. With terrible consequences - so beautifully retold.

Any recommendations for me? Thank you!

Agree with Rain in My Heart.
14 days in May (iPlayer) is a must watch about capital punishment.
Abducted in Plain Sight (Netflix) is almost unbelievable
Libby are you home yet? (Sky) a very sad documentary about the murder of Libby Squires

Just watched 2 episodes of this with 1 to go.

Absolutely brilliant!

How on earth can he claim to be innocent??🙄

I know!!? And to buy a boat without anyone knowing.

It’s brilliant, but I really feel for the poor girl. She seemed so nice, and was obviously so loved by her friends and still is..

The Last Descent on Amazon Prime. About potholers. Claustrophobic, terrifying and sad.

Bellyfullofbiscuits · 30/08/2024 18:48

Great suggestions. Has anyone noticed that damm music that a lot of Netflix doc has running through it. All the bloody time. I hate it. Why do they do this? Sometimes i can't even hear the speaking properly 😡

SammyScrounge · 30/08/2024 18:50

The Storybolle one about Jewish brothers who begin to suspect their father went to Australia after the war to.kill Nazis who gathered there. It was fascinating watching their investigation open up.

Absolutely gorgeous girl with her whole life taken from her and for what? 😡😡

And her unborn baby. Such a waste, all for absolutely nothing but cold feet.

Her smile was gorgeous.

ApolloandDaphne · 30/08/2024 19:14

These all sound so interesting.

DumbassHamsterSitterPerson · 30/08/2024 19:19

I hated Misha and the Wolves!

Lots of the ones already mentioned, especially Blackfish.

Adding Ukraine 1933, Seeds of Hunger (PBS America)

usernother · 30/08/2024 19:28

Dear Zachary. Free to watch on YouTube. One of the saddest stories ever. Be prepared.

BigBoysDontCry · 30/08/2024 19:48

A couple of older ones worth a look if you like crime documentaries.

Both netflix

The Innocent Man
Evil Genius

Doyoulikedebt · 30/08/2024 20:14

For anyone who recommended Tell Me Who I Am & Three Identical Strangers, I urge you to watch The Body Next Door. A Sky documentary based on a murder in Wales - really well told by local residents & family members but far more to it than first thoughts. Only 3 episodes & you'll want to watch them one after the other.

MontyDonsBlueScarf · 30/08/2024 20:35

Excellent thread.

My recommendation is Freddie Flintoff's Field of Dreams on iPlayer. It's a very long time since I've seen anything so uplifting.

Dreams of a Life about Joyce Vincent who died in London and was left undiscovered for two years. It's such a tragic tale and beautifully told by her friends who loved her. I think you may have to pay a couple of quid to watch now but it's well worth it.
