Just watched the whole thing. Thought there were lots of moments of awkwardness but somehow preferred that to how nowadays all the authenticity is micromanaged out of the programme.
Anton saying he had joined the show because he wanted to win it. Well ....
I say this often but .... Bring Erin Back As A Judge!
Loved how hilariousy camp and villainous the pros were. I guess, perhaps, letting them put their egos and competitiveness out there instead of suppressing them (and then them turning out to be bullying gits) might not be a bad thing. I also sensed none of them was a weak link, hired just because they were pretty.
The costumes made everyone look so good.
Laurie Holloway, what a blast from the past. Nobody was scuppered by terrible music, and the awful squeaky female singer wasn't there.
It made me appreciate how much is demanded of the celebs these days. Even the dufferest duffer doesn't get away with a routine as basic as whatever that was Christopher Parker was doing. (And he even slipped doing that.)
The training VTs were so much better. Genuine tensions, genuine critique, and a bit of genuine flirting.
Lesley and Anton dancing to the theme tune of The Deer Hunter. Nowadays that would be in Movie Week, involve a spangly bamboo cage and some exploding blood packs and end with Carlos and Nancy winning a seven-figure sum in an employment tribunal that made the BBC's present Strictly woes look like a minor kerfuffle in Camberwick Green.
