I was just chatting to DS2 about the Taiwan/Chinese Taipei thing because neither of us understand it!

Rafa isn't going to play the US Open. Speculation that he's going to retire after the Laver Cup now.

Jane I'm sad but not surprised about Rafa- I was more surprised he was thinking of playing. If he has had struggles on clay, it would be worse at the US Open.

Laver Cup will be indoors ( not his best) but but the slightly less pressurised environment might make it easier to say goodbye from.
Hopefully Roger will turn up to watch.

But- he has been getting a bit fed up each time the retirement question has been asked.

So maybe he just won't say it's the end. He just won't come back one day!

Bloody Sky is doing my head in. The rain keeps affecting the signal but it only seems to happen on the live channels I want to watch. RTÉ 2 Olympics, BBC1 Olympics both go off but RTÉ1 Bridge of Lies repeat and BBC2 Homes Under the Hammer no problem grr

I wondered why magi hadn't been posting much

I'm sort of relieved that Rafa isn't playing the US Open - I think the singles in the Olympics and the tournament before that showed his limitations - I haven't enjoyed watching him struggle and it must be frustrating for him (I did enjoy him in the doubles though)

I'm going to be in Berlin the weekend after the Laver Cup which is rubbish planning (not sure that I would have afforded tickets anyway) - maybe he'll do a Roger and retire then (more sobbing)

I don't want Rafa to retire, and it's obviously really hard to make a decision on when to do it. If it is to be this year, RG or the Olympics (as the clay specialist he is) would have made the most sense. Bu that option has passed. I can't t really see him being around for the next clay season sadly. But whereever/ whenever (Ooh, go Shakira) he does retire, it will still be a big thing.

The US Open will also be improved if you know who doesn't play either.

Yes, I think the 'disappear leaving everyone waiting' scenario is the most likely - one day, we will realise he hasn't played for a bit, and he will be off playing golf, or sunning himself on his yacht.

Daniil is playing ADF in Montreal. I haven't got to grips with the time difference.

The time difference keeps tripping me up, and I'm currently caught up with the track cycling (which I don't understand, but it's addictive viewing).

I was surprised to see the score in the Daniil/ADF match- but ADF does need to get some decent results in, he is on a bit of slide down the rankings.
