The new series 4 - of the hit crime show, starring Tala Gouveia and Jason Watkins, will start on Sunday, July 21 at 8 pm on ITV1.

Only 3 episodes sadly

Love this series

E1
Ian Andrews boards a bus in Bath but is discovered lifeless upon arrival, leaving DCI McDonald and DS Dodds puzzled by the daytime homicide case with no apparent witnesses.

E2
A woman missing for 38 years is found dead. Detectives McDonald and Dodds investigate to uncover her identity, whereabouts during that time, and the motive behind her murder after such a long period.

E3
It's wedding season in Bath, but a string of suspicious deaths is affecting the celebrations throughout the city. Is there a serial killer on the loose who goes after weddings? It's a case that pushes McDonald and Dodds to the limit.

Thought it was only me who was underwhelmed by it. I had trouble understanding what was going on a lot of the time and stayed until the end hoping it would get better.

mum2jakie · 24/07/2024 17:33

First time I've seen Pixie Lott in an acting role though!

I must have only been half watching as I didn't get what was the wife's reason for the murder?

Watched the whole thing and now I’ve looked at your question I’ve realised I haven’t a clue why she murdered them 😂

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/07/2024 22:31

I don't know why either

Something to do with the twin

I really don't know why

She had plenty of motive, surely? The investigative journalist was on to her and her husband's criminal schemes, and the sister was going to grass them up too. And she hoped to hang it mostly on her husband, and it would have worked too, if it wasn't for the pesky 3.

Said like a scooby doo episode

Yeah this wasn’t great, was it. I agree with the consensus - too long, quite boring.

Jason Watkins was his usual excellent self though. But I just can’t warm to Tala Gouveia, she seems to look smug and weirdly pouty all the time. Odd casting.

Let's hope tomorrows e2 is better

I think they swapped episodes around

This was much more interesting and "Sunday Nighty".

duc748 · 28/07/2024 22:10

Only half-way through, but yes, much better this week.

suburburban · 28/07/2024 22:18

Good tonight

Acunningruse · 29/07/2024 22:23

I don't have a bloody clue what happened on this week's!

(Spoilers below)

  • where was the map, if Nicholas (?) didn't find it on Jinksy after he punched him, how did the auctioneers get it?
  • why did the McLean lady give a false description/why didn't she give an accurate description of Nicholas?
  • what was the point of the bet about AI music?

AND! A double decker bus would never have got under that bridge 😡

Floralnomad · 29/07/2024 23:08

We’ve just watched this weeks and I thought it was as bad as last weeks if not worse , such a shame as I really liked the previous series .

butterpuffed · 30/07/2024 11:16

Not really clear on all that happened but my concentration lapsed as it went on for too long .

lazymum99 · 30/07/2024 14:11

I didn’t know what the hell was going on in the second episode but I will keep watching as I like the two main characters and the woman from outnumbered.
I also thought a double decker would have never fitted in that tunnel.

duc748 · 30/07/2024 14:34

Pretty sure that tunnel is not in Bath! Larkhall is a real area, but as much of the rest... Claire Skinner is great, but will always be remembered for Life Is Sweet.

butterpuffed · 30/07/2024 16:45

I thought the arty auction man looked a bit familiar but couldn't place him. I've since learnt it was Will Young !

Floralnomad · 30/07/2024 16:51

Will Young was the best bit about it .

Same

Not sure who killed bus man and why

Think 2hrs is too long

Needs to be an hour like whitstable Pearl

OP posts:
BessMarvin · 30/07/2024 22:26

The same man killed bus man because he saw what happened when he was dressed as a statue and decided to blackmail the killer.

Though I don't know how he knew he was actually dead.

Wheredidyougetthat · 30/07/2024 23:57

I started watching this series after being recommended it on here. I really enjoy it but the format is odd- no idea why the episodes are so long & why there are generally so few. Then it just disappears again for a while. I’ve been enjoying series 4 so far but I don’t think I’ve been scrutinising it all that closely. This series there seem to be a lot of close ups of Sgt Dodds looking confused or awkward as well as the ones mentioned up thread of McDonald looking surly.

duc748 · 31/07/2024 00:47

I think they work quite nicely as an odd couple. I agree they're a bit over-long, though. You know there's going to be a fair few red herrings along the way.

Clawdy · 31/07/2024 08:08

I loved the blues theme, especially the flashback to Robert Johnson at the crossroads. But the ending explanation was a bit confusing! I agree two hours is a bit long. Like the two leads though, I love Macdonald 's face when she gives him that glare occasionally!
