The other thread was getting too slow (and we were running out of space faster than the thread on a bobbin)

I'm trying to work out which pattern it is.

I've ruled out the closet core Blanca flight suit or perhaps a mash up between the TATB Alexa and the Sew Over It Farrah jumpsuit. It's got a fancy front yoke which I can't place but know I've seen somewhere.

I think I have too many jumpsuit patterns in my stash already but I want.

Is it the Merchant & Mills Thelma?

Ball dress was Vogue 2604. Hopeless for this challenge as it took me days to make as it had matching arms

Ooh I had that with a black bodice, sans frill and blue skirt and sleeves. Never heard DM swear as much as helping me make it...

SoupDragon · 03/07/2024 22:56

I've just remembered that I did flat piping when I made DD a Britney Spears air hostess dress. I only did it as I had no appropriate cord, I didn't realise it was A Thing!

Annabelinda! I got my dress for my 21st there @JulySheWillFlyAndGiveNoWarningToHerFlight

Loved that store - is it true it was a drugs front with packages arriving inside bolts of fabric?

JessyCarr · 03/07/2024 23:10

@londonmummy1966 Whaaaat? My innocence!

I read that, years afterwards.

Here’s a link.

Here’s another link.

I liked that the first link showed a bit of Annabelinda piping on a collar.

Is it the Merchant & Mills Thelma?

It’s possible she didn’t make it, she posts an outfit diary on her Instagram and it’s not on there, but she is wearing a RTW boilersuit in one photo (not the same one). I’m sure she’d reply to a question if you asked!

Oh, that takes me back - I so desperately wanted something from Annabelinda!

The best I could manage was some of their scrap fabric bags.

I still love Liberty Tana Lawn, though.

londonmummy1966 pleased to find someone else who made it. I think it may still be in the loft. I loved it and still have the pattern. I didn't do frills either

What is Patrick wearing! Those trousers look awful!

The trousers look like they're wearing him.

He's rebelling against being an object of desire and designing a new line of "passion killers" for men who want a quiet life!

I loved Suzy's own dress on last night's episode.
I love that over sized style.

I think whilst the show is on they're not allowed to share any details of anything they wore on it. But some of them do share afterwards (once the embargo is lifted). So if you asked her, she'd most likely say she couldn't tell you!

But I was another one trying to work it out!

TheTripThatWasnt · 04/07/2024 10:53

On their PJ tops - interesting that they gave them 4hrs 15, which feels like a sensible amount of time for once. The construction was actually very simple - it's the piping that would add the time.

They must have omitted something in the edit (I've just rewatched it to check I didn't miss it), as they ALL chose a slippery fabric, but it would have been much easier in a cotton lawn, which can still feel special/luxurious. It must have been part of the brief, as I can't see why you would make life hard for yourself on purpose. Even if the piping had been cotton that would have made a huge difference to how difficult it was.

I thought the same. I think that sometimes they tailor the Haberdashery so that it only stocks the fabrics they want them sewers to use. I wonder whether there were only slippery fabrics on offer.

I don't think that shiny synthetic fabric would be very nice to wear as a PJ top (who says pyjama blouse?) I'd rather have a soft cotton.

I agree. I think most of those fabrics were viscose sateens from Fabric Godmother, and they're lovely for nice tops and dresses, they'd be horrible for sleeping in.

MissMarplesNiece · 04/07/2024 16:21

@CaptainMyCaptain , I also thought Suzy's dress was horrible, it didn't even look nicely made. The bust darts were very strange.

I haven't found this year's series very inspirational. It hasn't made me want to get my sewing machine out. In past series I've been eager to find out what patterns sewers were using but this year I haven't bothered at all.

Brefugee · 04/07/2024 16:58

FriendsDrinkBook · 03/07/2024 22:28

@JulySheWillFlyAndGiveNoWarningToHerFlight yes , the oversized clothing trend is very prominent with sewists right now. No clue about fashion in general! I think it's just Suzie's chosen look.

being uncharitable, it is the same as the trend for no sleeves: far far easier to sew. No fitting, no real shaping etc etc.

I really liked Pascha's outfit, and loved her dress which wouldn't have won any other year. I liked Suzy's m2m - very different. Loved Marcus' m2m too, pity he did badly in the other rounds. I definitely liked him.

Does anyone have a list of their instagram accounts? i only found Pascha's.

2Rebecca · 04/07/2024 18:23

Marcus's outfit was very poorly finished. Ailsa seems to have good ideas but doesn't think them through and her sewing ability often isn't good enough for the designs she imagines. She seems more designer than dressmaker. 2 different jobs. Part of the problem with sewing bee is it tries to combine the 2 rather than focussing more on the dressmaking and letting other programs look at design. Pasha and Alex are by far the best dressmakers in the group.

FriendsDrinkBook · 04/07/2024 18:35

@Brefugee I agree , much easier to 'fit'. I'd like to see more tailoring and hope that it comes up in the next few weeks.

I don't have a list , but if you look at Mercedes from s5 (ohsewthatmercedes) she lists them all in a post just before the series begins.
