The other thread was getting too slow (and we were running out of space faster than the thread on a bobbin)

I agree with the judges, Marcus is lovely but was the right one to go.

Binglebong · 03/07/2024 21:58

😢

I think the men are at a disadvantage when it comes to making something with a tight bustier top.

Even though I don’t remember having such a tiny bust I do at least understand how natural breasts work.

Binglebong · 03/07/2024 21:59

Oooh fringe dresses!

murasaki · 03/07/2024 21:54

Suzy seems Teflon so Marcus to go.

I agree, although I don’t understand it.

SoupDragon · 03/07/2024 22:00

Alex and Pascha are definitely finalists barring a disastrous week (which has happened before!). I can't decide who I'd put in the 3rd slot though. They are all about the same. Luke is perhaps the worst but he is solidly average whereas Suzy and Ailsa have messed up more.

I’d put Ailsa third.

I agree but I think Suzy might edge it for her designs. Esme loves her.

SoupDragon · 03/07/2024 22:04

Ailsa was one of my original finalists but she was really, really bad this week and I think she might have peaked.

Suzy’s pale blue dress: I’ve never seen a scallop-shaped seam before when sewing tiers, and it must be difficult to sew well. Is it cut on the bias somehow or is it just badly gathered?
edited to finish the sentence: because it does seem to hang badly.

Edited

She looked light a toilet roll dolly.

JessyCarr · 03/07/2024 22:08

I enjoyed this one. Not everything was finished, but it seemed as though the tasks were better matched to the time allotted. Alex and Pascha definitely pulling ahead now. Loved Pascha’s GOTW. Marcus so sweet at the end!

Perhaps she has anorexia or similar so feels she has to hide her body.

I've never been anorexic but I like Christmas trees to hide inside. I know the blue dress is a bit odd but it's interesting.
It was a busy hour, what with bustiers on one side and Berrettini on the other.

littlbrowndog · 03/07/2024 22:12

Honestly berrintini. 🥳🥳

2Rebecca · 03/07/2024 22:14

They are far ruder to Kiell than to the comedy presenter in other series. I wonder if it's him, them or the editing

Spareincoming · 03/07/2024 21:07

Gosh she really is Bubble from
Ab Fab isn’t she!

thank you. I spent whole programme trying to think who she looked like. Absolutely spot on

And I think the production team knew it too, there were some camera moments where she looked very Jane Horricks like.

LuluBlakey1 · 03/07/2024 22:18

I think Kiell is great. I wasn't sure at first but I think he's really good.

Binglebong · 03/07/2024 22:18

I wonder if they are just very relaxed with him?

FriendsDrinkBook · 03/07/2024 22:21

Some really unfortunate fitting happening tonight! I'm disappointed that they didn't have to make a bra in the first challenge , a pj blouse isn't quite the same skill-wise as a standard bra. Though I understand that the fabrics used can be tricky to sew. Lots of fabric godmother fabrics this evening too.

It was right for Marcus to go , he's done so well though and seems like a lovely man.

Again I'm confused by the lack of basic sewing skills from the contestants. How can you not practice piping , it was bound to come up at some point.

JulySheWillFlyAndGiveNoWarningToHerFlight · 03/07/2024 22:24

I’m a teacher. The students I’ve known who have or had anorexia (who may not be typical of all people with anorexia) who wanted to hide their bodies wouldn’t have bare shoulders and arms.

FriendsDrinkBook · 03/07/2024 22:28

@JulySheWillFlyAndGiveNoWarningToHerFlight yes , the oversized clothing trend is very prominent with sewists right now. No clue about fashion in general! I think it's just Suzie's chosen look.

JulySheWillFlyAndGiveNoWarningToHerFlight · 03/07/2024 22:29

I had a phase of making several items with piping (influenced by Annabelinda, an Oxford dress store of the time) but I always used piping cord. It was very fine cord, but using it made it quite easy to sew evenly piped seams. I don’t remember making any without any cord inside, though.

JessyCarr · 03/07/2024 22:34

Annabelinda! I got my dress for my 21st there @JulySheWillFlyAndGiveNoWarningToHerFlight

LuluBlakey1 · 03/07/2024 22:45

I was really surprised by people saying they hadn't done piping. I think am a very basic sewer but I can do very nice piping. It's a basic skill you learn when you start off doing cushions or bags and then move on to more sophisticated things.

123ZYX · 03/07/2024 22:48

I wonder if Marcus struggled with getting the fitting right due to trying to avoid touching his model. Maybe he'd have checked the fit more often if it was his wife he was fitting to
