Stacey's new series starts tonight and will see her fix builds that have gone wrong.

@Rummikub

I won't be able to watch live as Race Across the World is on

I'm not sure I'm going to enjoy this as much as Sort your life out.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 10/04/2024 19:41

I'm not sure either AND there's adverts. But I will be giving it a go, probably tomorrow as the TV is firmly on BBC1 tonight

Watched it. I’ll watch next week too cos I like Stacey. SYLO is still number 1.

DelphiniumBlue · 10/04/2024 23:38

Didn’t enjoy it, or really see the point of it- it didn’t teach any skills properly, I couldn’t tell what the aim of it was. The fact that a professional was on hand while Stacey carried out a task didn’t really help- realistically anyone renovating will have to pay for professional advice, and many of the jobs were not those that an unskilled amateur could carry out safely without supervision.
Its a shame, I really enjoy SYLO, but this in no way compares.

ABirdsEyeView · 11/04/2024 09:26

I wasn't keen on this either. It's basically an extended version of that bit on sylo where she tinkers with a staple gun and some glue, to make a completely pointless craft item.

People won't easily be able to just do these diy tasks if they have little previous knowledge and don't possess the right tools.

I'd like to know why nothing is done about cowboy builders, who cost that poor couple 70k and trashed their house!

Netaporter · 11/04/2024 19:01

I quite liked it, but it was no different than Sarah Beeny rocking up on property ladder with a drilll? I liked the lady builder - she looked like she would see anyone off on site 😂

I agree a show that combines the cowboy builder element of watchdog with the rectification process would be a better show. Too many cowboy builders get away with stuff because no one is prepared to name and shame (except for our local FB page which is just jaw-dropping at this sort of stuff - it is no hold barred let me tell you 😳)

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 12/04/2024 10:02

Finally watched it.

Hmmmm

It lacks momentum

I will keep watching though

There were some moments I liked more than others. Like when Stacey commented on the windows above the doors and helped them lay the laminate flooring. Otherwise, it was too much like all the other property programmes without Stacey's touch.

Bring back another series of SYLO is what I say!

Yes that’s exactly it! No momentum. There were gaps of two months but I guess that could’ve been home owners as they were both working full time. Sounded like they saved a lot of money.

MrsMoastyToasty · 12/04/2024 13:00

I would be more interested to know if they sued/reported to Trading Standards/reported to HMRC the cowboy builders

useruserna · 12/04/2024 14:55

I'll probably still watch it but it seemed to neither one thing or another - not Watchdog type going after cowboy builders, not an interior design program and not a diy program - most of the jobs seemed to require tools and skill-set beyond the average person (eg they used an expensive chop saw to do the beading around the fan lights and didn't show how to get the correct angle). I'd like to see the builder (Aggie?) do a proper diy program aimed at everday jobs using minimal tools.

Rummikub · 17/04/2024 21:59

This episode has more energy. Quite liked it.

It seems quite similar to worst house on the best street.

Meredusoleil · 18/04/2024 21:44

Watched ep 2 tonight. Really can't seem to get into this new programme. I mean saving £6-7k compared to having already spent £130+k sounds like a drop in the ocean to me.

Plus your average Joe doesn't have access to a builder like Aggie or all those power tools needed to do the jobs Stacey was helping them to do. Just not realistic.

Bring back SYLO is what I say (again)!

Rummikub · 18/04/2024 22:23

On 4/7 they had worst house and Stacey’s new programme on after. They must realise it’s the same show!

ColinRobinsonsFart · 19/04/2024 11:36

Just watched the second episode

The outside .... hardboard, holes in the walls

But hey! We have covered a heating duct! And painted walls!

I predict rot and water ingress.....

Thank you! So glad you reminded me of what I was thinking throughout the show. What a state the outside of the house was in. But nevermind that. The inside (and only upstairs) was fab because it was all about the view!!!

BTW, were the bedrooms downstairs in that house as I don't remember them being shown? So it was a kind of upside down house of sorts?

I live locally to this one and I’ve heard there are very much two sides to this story tbf.

Rummikub · 19/04/2024 16:19

What are the two sides to the story?

I was thinking this again with the second episode.
Do the producers think we’d be less sympathetic or interested if the couple have recovered 75% of the initial spend?

The production seems rushed, scenes obviously staged ( 2nd episode starts with a good clean out ), out of sequence ( the builder turns up to help with their kitchen build yet there a big tall cabinet already built behind them ) and I FF through the parts at Stacey’s home.

daffodilandtulip · 26/04/2024 20:02

Why isn't the partner that's moving in in three weeks, helping?

Indeed! In fact, it didn't even look like he was in the wedding photo they showed of the whole party 🧐

Meredusoleil · 26/04/2024 20:36

Also, was it just me, or did the girl Alex look very young to be getting married?!?

MonsterMunched · 28/04/2024 20:36

Where was the fiancé in episode 3?! Surely s/he would be living there too and could have helped out? Also wondered how it would work if dad ever needs care- who’s name the house was in etc.
