Stacey's new series starts tonight and will see her fix builds that have gone wrong.

Meh.

MonsterMunched · 28/04/2024 21:01

Also I’m sure they said dad would live in an annex but he was in the main bedroom at the end of the show? It didn’t look big enough for multi generational living- the sofa would be a squeeze for three of them.

Where was the fiancé in episode 3?! Surely s/he would be living there too and could have helped out? Also wondered how it would work if dad ever needs care- who’s name the house was in etc.

I got the impression he didn't want to be in the show. He wasn't shown at all, even when they had the shots of the wedding. I think the most we saw was the back of his head!

I agree. But why though? Maybe he wasn't too happy about moving in with his FIL?

BigPandaTinyDragon · 29/04/2024 12:45

I wondered this too and then thought maybe my gaydar was off and she was actually marrying a woman. Still think she could have helped though!

I don’t understand how people pay out so much without the work being approved and why the dodgy builders appear to get away with it.

Lots of people don't want to appear on TV. It may have been personal choice, maybe he is estranged from family and didn't want them to know where he is, maybe he is in the police force or another role where he doesn't want to be on SM, or some other reason!

They mentioned that they couldn’t afford to do the house and Annex at once, so we’re just doing the main house for now.

Sort your life out is on again tonight (BBC1 8pm). I hope it's not a repeat?!?

It was! it was the family in Cornwall with the grown-up kids where the mum (and to an extent Dad) were so unwilling to let go of any random ornament or bit of tat - the best one was some huge bent nail picked up on the beach! Everything apparently had a story attached and was irreplaceable. The son was so patient and understanding with them, given that it was having a huge effect on his life too. The team did a great job and it actually looked like a believable episode because at the end the house was still a bit mis-matched and full of what was obviously their own upcycled furniture, rather than them returning to a house full of new bespoke units which in real life would have cost an absolute fortune.

kiwiane · 02/05/2024 21:39

I’m surprised by tonight’s renovation rescue - the couple both have good jobs, no children and her Dad is a builder. It looks like they just wanted to be on the telly to me.

Meredusoleil · 02/05/2024 22:00

I really hated the decor of the bright bold house in E. London that Stacey showed the couple.

Absolutely loved the pastel colour palette of the new kitchen, but would have had to have the tiles in a proper pattern rather than random!

ABirdsEyeView · 03/05/2024 07:44

When I saw the really bold house, all I could think about was how overwhelmed I'd feel as a buyer, having to paint over the blue walls and striped ceilings!

I did think it was quite brave of the couple to take down chimney breasts and fill in the floor with concrete - those aren't small or easy jobs!

Rummikub · 03/05/2024 08:08

What time was it on? I caught it on 47.. and the colours were too much. A few here and there wouldve been lovely.

I watched worst house on the street before Stacey and that was a good renovation. Couple had a good eye.

kiwiane · 03/05/2024 10:57

I believe I saw her builder Dad helping with concrete - he wouldn’t be fazed by this at all.
I suppose the support of the show would give them confidence and the impetus that they didn’t already have. It looked really nice and suited their style, it’s obvious they are mostly left to do it themselves.
It doesn’t seem reasonable to expect people to save by taking on risky jobs. They’d had a structural engineer involved in the chimney removal and oversight of new concrete by a builder. It wouldn’t lead me to take on those jobs especially as they’re not really necessary. I like chimney breasts and wooden floors.

My thoughts exactly! How on earth would your builder dad leave you living like that?

Truly disliked their kitchen handles - they seemed at odds with the rest of the look.

The East London House was too much for me.

What is the big capital P that keeps appearing in the top left hand corner on the screen after every ad break? Does anyone know?

It means that products are promoted in the programme, so like an advert but not an advert

Where they show them using Dulux paint for example

Oh! I had no idea. Never noticed it on any other (or even this) programme before 😳

Rummikub · 14/05/2024 21:59

4 ovens!

Rummikub · 14/05/2024 21:59

4 ovens!

Not to mention 3 hobs I think I saw!

Also, the gap between the island and the other kitchen counter was quite narrow imho.

Bloody loved the marble floor tiles, the handleless kitchen style and colour and the wooden worktops/island top 👌

Did not like the gold taps with 2 sinks side by side. Would it not have been better to just have one bigger sink?!?

Plus, they could have had a bigger 6 part hob (x2) instead of 3 x 4. I wonder if it's to allow more than one person to be cooking at the same time?

Bankholidayhelp · 14/05/2024 23:23

Well, that was a somewhat mad episode . I would have thought that with such a large family there would have been a number of 'trades' as relatives of some sort.

Mum didn't look comfortable.

Don't think we got a budget did we?

No. The mum looked quite strained on camera. Think she was in pain? No budget mentioned. I don't think that was the problem. It was finding tradesmen to do the jobs!

Netaporter · 15/05/2024 14:12

Well I agree that was an odd episode. How the fuck would you leave your poorly elderly mother trying to cook effectively outdoors?

My kitchen island is 3m and is pretty big and a PITA to walk round whilst cleaning, I cannot imagine it being 2x that!

Floor tiles were a lovely colour but a drop of water on them would be a huge slip hazard I reckon.

No budget that I heard of, and unless i missed it, no rationale as to how they were in that state other than ‘they couldn’t find builders’ which I took to mean didn’t want to pay the going rate for them?

MonsterMunched · 27/05/2024 11:26

Why would you spend thousands on bifolds then leave them in the garden?! They could have put them under cover inside or at least put tarps over them. Where were the rest of the family? Very odd episode!

BigPandaTinyDragon · 27/05/2024 20:35

It was! And if the family stretched to 70 people why were only 4 at the most and usually just 2 doing all the work? Where were the rest? Even allowing for a lot being kids there must have been a few more hands that could have helped.
