Looked like the thread was about to run out- and for once I noticed. Grin

Still sad we can't start this thread with better news of Rafa- but fingers crossed for the next one!

I feel like ADM’s main purpose on the tour is to torment the old guys, now that Andy Murray isn’t available he’s decided to start making life difficult for Rafa.

Raahh · 23/04/2024 07:52

Maybe ADM will be affected by The Altitude (I have my bingo card ready for how many times that gets a mention in the next week or so Grin).

I was near Liam's neck of the woods for coffee, last week. Never bump into him Grin. Never anywhere to park. He needs to have a word with Tim, and get that sorted.

I would also be happy to look as ‘bad’ as Emma Radacanu in that photo!

I still don’t really understand these two week tournaments - they just seem to play the same amount of matches but with more gaps in between Hmm

I also won’t be able to watch Rafa’s match against Darwin Blanch or whatever his name is if he plays tomorrow.

ADM does seem to be a bit of a bogey player for the oldies Ice - yes hopefully the pesky altitude will have an effect (but not on Rafa! Grin)

Oh dear - not sure that I can cope with a Roger/Rafa sobfest at the Laver Cup - I think it will be a nice send off for him though.I did have a look at the tickets but they seem to be about a million pounds!

Sad It really will be.

It will be the hottest ticket around- even if he doesn't play, just the fact it might be last time he is there will be enough.

Still annoyed that Sky are choosing to show repeats from the weekend rather the qualifiers- they showed qualifiers the other weeks!

I really don’t want to think about Rafa retiring.
It will be very sad.

kazzaD66 · 23/04/2024 11:42

How the f did Cock get the Laureus Sport World Sportsman of the Year Award Hmm

JaneJeffer · 23/04/2024 11:59

What? 🤬

JaneJeffer · 23/04/2024 12:15

Just watched his acceptance speech. These faces say it all Grin

Jelena looked beautiful

kazzaD66 · 23/04/2024 12:26

Well done Jane
Not* *even a few stiff drinks would make watching and listening to him palatable, especially when receiving an award!

JaneJeffer · 23/04/2024 12:32

Rafa's Foundation won an award so that's something at least

kazzaD66 · 23/04/2024 12:33

Yes, I thought that was a small consolation.

Fizzywinegum · 23/04/2024 12:57

I’m not sure that I can stomach Djok’s acceptance speech but I’m liking Rafa and Carlos’ WTF faces Grin

I’ve got a picture if Roger and Rafa holding hands and crying on my noticeboard - not sure that I can deal with it all again Sad

There’s a slight possibility that I might be in Berlin the weekend after the Laver Cup - maybe I should just throw caution to the wind, get a second mortgage and try a last ditch attempt to finally see Rafa in the flesh? (Can’t see it happening really though)

kazzaD66 · 23/04/2024 13:24

Oooh, wouldn't that be great fizzy!

I'm hoping* *the award is the only thing Djok wins all year. Grin

The ticket prices are ridiculous!

Fizzywinegum · 23/04/2024 14:07

I know Jane - I can’t quite work out how much a ticket to just one session is but it looks as if it’s £1,000s to go to a few of the sessions Sad

Makes Wimbledon tickets seem very affordable Hmm

Fizzywinegum · 23/04/2024 14:14

Single session tickets go on sale on my birthday - maybe I’ll get a nice surprise present Grin

Although it doesn’t look as if there are too many tickets left - must be lots of rich people about!

Fizzywinegum · 23/04/2024 18:09

I think I’m going to watch the Challengers film at the weekend - it’s a tennis film - I saw a trailer for it last year but it’s only just coming out because of the screenwriters strike

It’s got Zendayah (who I’d never heard of!) and the actor who played the young King Charles in The Crown in it - not sure what it will be like but I think it involves a love triangle Grin

Our local cinema is offering a discount on food and drink for anyone wearing a tennis outfit Grin

Raahh · 23/04/2024 18:20

Fizzy Brad Gilbert has been the 'tennis expert' for the film- and Coco Gauff was asked the other day if he had ditched her for Zendaya (because he had gone to something with herGrin).

I do know who Zendaya is, but mainly because she is going out with Tom Holland, who is Spiderman. And she is /he is a big tennis fan (funny pictures of him and his dad at Wimbledon the other year, trying to look like they were not over excited by the sight of Emma Watson). Grin.

I like the idea of dressing up to go to the cinema.

I would not have the guts to do it over the age of 5.

I always remember making Dh go and see the the Paul Bettany 'Wimbledon' film.
I'm not sure he's ever really forgiven me. It was a bit rubbish really Grin.

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 23/04/2024 19:10

Grin I’ve still not seen the Wimbledon film!

I think maybe Zendaya and Tom Holland were at a US tennis tournament not long ago?

I think I’m going to see it but probably won’t dress up (wonder if I could just get away with a sweatband on my wrist?)

I did manage to wear all black (by accident) when I went to see Barbie when everyone else was dressed in pink - Goth Barbie Grin

Raahh · 23/04/2024 19:16

I like Paul Bettany, but as cringy very British films go, 'Wimbledon' is way up there in the cringe stakes Grin.

Tennis themed films are often a bit rubbish. Less said about 'Borg Vs McEnroe' the better Grin

OP posts:
IceandIndigo · 23/04/2024 19:46

I saw the trailer for the Challengers film and thought it looked a bit cringe! You’ll have to report back fizzy. Saw some promotional pics of Zendaya and she’s much too thin to be believable as a pro athlete, I hope she put on some muscle for the film.
