Detectorists shaped hole to fill…

I recently binge watched the Detectorists twice. I have fallen in love with it.

I am now in serious mourning, and looking for something to fill the gap.

Is there anything around on BBC iPlayer/Netflix, which might fill the hole in my life? I'm looking for something with a similar feel…

I've already watched ghosts.

Watching this thread as drawing a loss on intelligent new comedy myself.

I can highly recommend The Cleaner with Greg Davies. Similar feel.

I loved the Detectorists too! Toby Jones was excellent in Mr Bates vs The Post Office if you haven't seen that.

Thick of it - obviously more sweary! We tend though to wait a bit and then rewatch the Detectorists again. Fleabag and, if you can get it anywhere Crashing which was on Channel 4 years ago. This life and teachers depending on your age - they are all old ones.

Kim's Convenience amd Superstore on Netflix are both excellent. US so not similar to Detectorists in that way but the humour is quite gentle and the characters are relatable, I thoroughly enjoyed both.

Laudermilk on Netflix, may not be as gentle as Dectectorists though.

Ted Lasso - you could sign up for a free trial to binge it. It's gentle and has nice people and isn't about football at all.

The Change on More4 - similar country vibe, set in the Forest of Dean and has lots of well known actors.

Soz wrong spelling, its loudermilk, can be a bit dark

Our Flag Means Death - Iplayer- a gentleman pirate concerned about the wellbeing of his crew. Very funny so far, I’ve only seen a couple of episodes.

Detectorists is a masterpiece. A beautifully observed and beautifully acted quiet celebration of the english countryside, history and eccentricities. With glorious music.

Nothing else like it.

Mum was brilliant. I think it is in iPlayer but maybe on other services too.
Very quiet but very very funny. And sad.

Think the Val & Roger one might have been just got in rather than home.

It is frickin incredible. I've rewatched it many times and still see new things in it (to look on the bright side).

For a McKenzie Crook fix, and a very spurious 'history' angle, you might like Britannia. It's pretty funny but it also has very violent elements (I am a wuss), not very gentle like Detectorists.

And amazingly, the troubadour that is Johnny Flynn may be a triple threat, it seems. I would love to see this (it's going to be streamed into some cinemas, too): Johnny Flynn in The Motive and the Cue | West End Theatre
but at the moment I can't make any of the screenings so that's pretty annoying.
