I'm sure I found a thread on this series a while ago, but now season 2 is out I've looked back and I can't find anything apart from the renewal petition.

For anyone who hasn't come across it yet, I would thoroughly recommend. It starts off as a sort of workplace comedy set on a pirate ship, sort of in the style of Ghosts, and with a similar fanbase to Good Omens. When the 2nd lead character arrives at the end of episode 3, it starts to change and it only hit me two thirds of the way through season 1 that I was actually watching a very different sort of show to the one I thought I had started watching.

From that point it's phenomenal. The attention to detail is superb. Both leads are clearly neuro diverse, from abusive backgrounds and damaged because of these. They both want what they think the other one has. It's about them discovering themselves, accepting themselves for who they really are, and healing. There is comedy, but also heartbreak and despair. The show handles these so sensitively and accurately, down to minute details, and Taika Waititi and Rhys Darby deserve every award under the sun for their work here.

I don't think I've ever obsessed about a show as much as this one. I've tried to make this not too spoilery in case some of you want to watch it, but really I just want someone to talk to about it! I've already watched it countless times and the more I rewatch the more I appreciate it. I said I was obsessed and I really am!

The show has sadly been cancelled, despite its popularity, and the producers are currently trying to see if it will be picked up by another network. I have read that they are keeping an eye on the iPlayer numbers as part of this, so I also wanted to shamelessly plug it here 😁

If any of you haven't seen it and fancy giving it a try, it grows into itself in the first season and you really need to give it at least 4 episodes (episode 4 is where the main story really starts). Its not a show I would have thought to watch myself (DD wanted me to watch it with her) but I'm so glad I have.

I don't really know what I want from this thread really. I want more people to find it, but I also want to just talk about it and obviously can't do that without more spoilers than I've already given. Help me out people!

Yes yes yes to hiding watching The Show (in my house, it’s just ‘pirates’ now) and to family reactions being a mixture of incredulity and pity. Last night I watched some of What We Do in the Shadows as that’s not strictly pirates, but to my family that’s so pirate-adjacent it’s still part of the addiction. My son usually pops downstairs half an hour after he’s gone to bed and whizzes into the sitting room, hoping to find me watching OFMD/Ed and Stede/Rhys and Taika clips on YouTube – somehow watching those feels even more embarrassing and teenaged. I’ve been listening to so many Rhys podcasts and interviews that I now make sure to have something else on instead when anyone else can hear. It's so ridiculous!

Such good takes from all of you about Lucius. I found it hard to see why (both in terms of plot and character) Ed had to push him overboard - so extreme. But your readings put it in a different light - he has to go because to Ed he represents compassion and the acknowledgment of grief and loss, and therefore the possibility of being able to process rather than repress his torment and remain the kraken.

I admitted to having watched some episodes "ooh, maybe 20 times?" And even that received quite a surprised reaction. Probably best I don't admit the real number 😂😂😂

I listen to the Cryptid podcasts in the car when I'm alone so that's pretty safe. And I have totally avoided mentioning the fan fiction - particularly as some of my favourites do include scenes of a rather more... explicit nature than my usual reading material 😉

@MrsJellybee That exact T-shirt has been sitting in my etsy basket for a little while now. I just haven't checked what size to get yet. I was going to order Samba's crew for life T, but again, didn't get around to checking the size. My intention is to get a better bag that will look good with a collection of enamel pins on it, and then get a selection of those.

My enamel pin lives on the (very small) grey rucksack that I used every day, and the tote bag lives inside said rucksack and comes out every time I need a bag for carrying shopping stuff that won't ruin it. Sadly they have not yet prompted recognition from other crew members.

I had a lovely Cabin Pressure tote bag and it wasn't recognised by anyone I didn't already know - I was quite surprised. Likewise with my sons' Cabin Pressure t-shirts.

I have PC reading glasses which really help with close work on a screen. But I only needed to make out enough words to confirm the quote. Not sure if it's body or bodies tbh, without watching the episode again.

I am intending to wear the t shirt to Lanzarote. Not sure how strong the OFMD fanbase is in the Canaries.

I want a t-shirt that I can just wear any time. So the Rhys one, whilst completely wonderful and is still making me smile, may be a little much. I also fear it will not wash well. The one you have ordered though, @MrsJellybee , I definitely would wear anytime. So I'm going to have to get around to measuring/ordering.
