A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the K-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix and Viki, with a sprinkling of AmazonPrime, AppleTV and Disney+. There are also platforms streaming content illegally if you go looking. We don’t promote them as they are peppered with pop-ups of “Olga” and friends offering a good time, but we can point you in the right direction. We also dip into Japanese, Taiwanese & Chinese drama as & when.

Our list is cumulative so includes previous threads’ recommendations. Shows marked with a star are more uniformly loved or admired. In categorising series, its important to note most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. supernatural, romance and a thriller; crime series with fantasy elements. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series that are tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier moments. Writer/actor Simon Pegg referred to it fondly as “tonal chaos” - it’s part of kdrama’s charm. I'm loving CtK (only on episode 3 though) but have to be in a fairly focused mood for the Joseon stuff. The Brothers Sun continues to be fabulous, but one episode at a time is enough, and CtK is a perfect contrast afterwards.

DH is cooking a fry-up while I catch up on Dr Slump, which is perfect for a Sunday go-slow.

Me and DH watched two episodes of A Killer Paradox last night - I like it a lot, v webtoony but completely elevated by the cast: SSK and our fave psycho Wooshik is doing a great job of being somehow cute and sympathetic but also unhinged....

Captivating the King ep 1 - what’s going on with the king when his brother returns. It cut to his deformed finger nails but I’m not sure what I’m supposed to have inferred from that. Poisoning? Disease? Torture? He seems out of sorts. 🤷‍♀️

He's definitely peaky Boaty. I think you infer that he's bitten his nails down and is going mentally off the rails.

Ah right. See, with Knight Flower I wanted to google botanical poisons to see what caused the purple mouth dots but didn’t want to end up on some government watch list.

So much palace plotting in CtK that the impending doom is inevitable and I'm bracing myself for the ending. Actually I'm not even sure where the plot is going, but I'm so invested in the M/FL's relationship that I'm willing to take the sinking stomach of fear that comes with each latest episode. Is their love ever going to be consumated?

It's beautifully shot and I am in awe at how much Cho Jung-Seok's face can deliver. I also want a real jade flower now.

Oh blimey @MigsandTiggs and @polkettle, you mean that it gets worse! I'm only on episode 4 and just about coping with tension as it is 🙈 although I usually love a twisty plot (schemey-weemy is a great phrase, whoever used it 😆)

@boatyardblues I have Googled so many strange things in response to KDrama serial killer plots that I am DEFINITELY on a watchlist somewhere 😜

I found episode 3 or 4 the worst Punks - but there are bad men in beards aplenty (small moment of appreciation for the beard gluer in this series - such variety and lushness!). I think it's really clever actually - the different turns and deceptions all the characters are being forced into are very board game like. I still think it's going to end well but it's fascinating regardless.

Yes @polkettle, I'm very disappointed that 'Chief Beard Attacher' (or CBA) wasn't an option on the approved careers list when I was in school! 😆

oh no not sure I can cope with CtK, just reading all your comments gives me anxious tummy! Been off line and not able to watch my TV due to New Year celebrations can't exile other half to lounge as it is meant to be 'family' time. Mind you think I am going to head into HP, as not watched it yet and seems like it might be a good one to slide in while I am still off work. Not meant to sweep the floors till Wednesday, so am just going to head to the sofa!

Finished TKP last night. Thought it was very good overall and DH likened it to Kill Bill in parts. Definitely left open for another series.

Going to start ep 13 of MMH tonight.

I know the characters are polar opposites. However. IMO M&F lead in MMH are completely overshadowed by the brilliant actors playing 2nd M&F lead.

I thought MMH got back on track today. I had too “oh FFS!” thoughts:

1. Who doesn’t have a phone charger leader in their car? No one, that’s who!
2. If you are facing imminent peril and can see it coming a mile off, would you really not try to get out of harm’s way.

Aside from that, good effort.
