Anyone watching this ? I'm amazed how people claim a healthy diet and then their shopping trolley is full of crap.

It’s a shame if MM has sold out as I really like him, but agree this is a rip off of the Bbc1 prog.
Even Tim Spector has revised his advice in the wake of new research, etc, but he’d never promote upf. Him and Chris VT are my go-tos!

Actual lol. Tim Spector has sold out massively and has made a UPF range of ‘gut shots’ for M&S

Spinet · 19/01/2024 08:36

Have to agree re Tim spector and having paid for 6 months of the Zoë program, the test is helpful but the diet stuff is restrictive bollocks that had made me feel like a freak of nature. The coaches are useless. It feels like a cult, and now they're trying to get me to send "free articles" to my friends so it's beginning to look like a pyramid scheme as well.

I’ve been listening to the Zoe podcasts, when it’s an outside expert they are good. There was a bloke in taking about exercising and thinking about what you do in terms of old age so keep your legs strong so you can get out of a chair and get in and off the loo when elderly, that was good food for thought. It’s when the podcast is just all the people who work there, cult is the right word. In one they were demonising porridge , that’s ridiculous. And they have to shoehorn gut biome into every conversation.

shearwater2 · 19/01/2024 08:45

I hate the whole idea of Zoe, it just panders to health anxiety and orthorexia. If my guts don't like something I soon bloody well know about it.

And Michael Moseley banged on for years about UPF and eating a low carb Mediterranean diet with as much fresh food, cooked from scratch as possible, then brought out a Fast Diet processed soup and milkshake range.

As we would have said at school "Chinny Reck-on."

canina · 19/01/2024 15:06

I think the MM shakes are to get you out of pre-diabetes quickly

kitsuneghost · 19/01/2024 15:15

Shopping trolley full of crap doesn't necessarily mean you have bad diet
I do my normal shop at one store then go to Aldi because I like their pizzas crisps and chocolate.
So catch me on an Aldi shop my trolley is full of junk as I stock up, but they are incorporated into a healthy diet

but anything low in sugar would do that. some bland veg soup would do the trick.

he's just coming across as money hungry these days.

VimtoVimto · 19/01/2024 16:25

I feel the Zoe programme is medicalising eating. I must admit to being interested in a personalised diet plan but not interested enough to pay what it costs. I’m also worried it would fuel my tendency to obsess over what I eat.

I quite enjoy the MM programme though it’s very similar to Eat Well for Less. MM does annoy me a bit due to his tendency to jump on every bandwagon. I do like the sections where he tests TikTok nutritional advice

BatshitCrazyWoman · 19/01/2024 17:18

I'm not a fan of MM or his wife. I don't find them particularly 'good' to watch on TV, and his voice irritates me 😳 I listen to his podcast on BBC Sounds and endure his voice because the experts he has on are so interesting (and normally have better 'radio' skills than he does. I don't think I could bear to watch him as well as hear him 😂

dyou remember how he revised it @Goatymum ?

Offwiththecircus · 19/01/2024 17:58

Was thinking of watching on catch-up so thanks for reviews - won't bother. Was unaware MM had compromised himself so much.
Must say I think folks over-complicate the idea of healthy eating - seems quite simple to me, no need for special diet regimes or products.

Goatymum · 19/01/2024 18:14

@WinterDeWinter - he’s mentioned on the Zoe podcast about how his updated advice in his books over the years as new research comes out.

I listened to that too re exercise - very interesting.
Nothing wrong w porridge imho, but he does advise organic oats as apparently non-organic too easily absorb pesticides. I think in some people it does give them a sugar spike, so it’s advised to have protein alongside.

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 19/01/2024 18:26

I'd love to see Zoe make more use of Dr Sarah Berry. I reckon with the right team she could do a really relatable "how to eat well from Asda, dirt cheap". Although that is the democratic that Zoe would like to help, it is not the demographic that makes them money so they don't pursue it.

Middle aged, middle class, white men who have had a bit of a health scare is not actually the best mentor group for real life mums trying to feed a family.

Also the worried well as I think they call them.

£15,000 a year on takeaways 😳😳😳

FrenchandSaunders · 22/01/2024 20:21

Did I hear that right!

NooNakedJacuzziness · 22/01/2024 20:32

How is that even possible?? That's a really good holiday!

Romeiswheretheheartis · 22/01/2024 20:34

Yes, I nearly fell off my chair - it's literally 2/3 of my net income! I got the calculator out and if they have one every single day of the year, it works out about £41 a day. Surely they can't have one every day - in which case they spend far more than £41 per each takeaway! 😳

That was total crap

I used to like Gillian Mckeefe on channel four many years ago now ' you are what you eat'
She would give them a withering look and show them mountains of food that they all ate in a month with the kind of disdain you give mud on your best boots!
Then show them the Gillian way !
She was a pita on ' im a celeb' , but so good at making people think about their diets and whatever

I had a love/hate relationship with you are what you eat. I had an ED in my teens/early 20s so probably drawn to this programme but I remember some really dubious meals.
She made a "pizza" once out of ground up cauliflower for the base iirc and some sweet potato, and other vegetables, no cheese and said if you put in a take away box the kids would think it was a take away and enjoy it just as much.
If anyone tried to give that to me and pretend it was a pizza I'd probably cry!!

Citrusandginger · 22/01/2024 21:17

Actually, I work with someone who has deliveroo for breakfast, walks to the garage to buy a meal deal for lunch, then has a takeaway for dinner. And wonders why she can't afford a car or a holiday.

Or in this case a house deposit. Or why they are overweight.

Surely people aren't that delusional?!
