4 part drama on weekly wed at 9

The four-part story follows a keen metal detectorist Martin (Neil Morrissey) and his brash, wheeler dealer son-in-law Ashley (James Buckley) who, on a 'bonding trip' to Somerset, stumble upon a buried treasure worth millions, and that's where their troubles start...

Finders Keepers follows the story of Martin (Neil Morrissey) who is a keen detectorist. While he goes to rural Somerset on a boys bonding trip with his son-in-law Ashley (James Buckley), the discover a hoard of buried Saxon treasure and it's potentially worth millions.

Legally, this find should be declared, but wily Ashley spots an opportunity to look after No1 and as pressures are building at home between Martin and his wife Anne (Fay Ripley), usually straight as an arrow Martin can’t help be tempted by what Ashley proposes.

If they sell it on the black market, they could be set for life and Ashley has the connections to make it happen. But with a hoard this amazing, could it really be that easy? After all, they might not be the only ones out for its spoils...

Leading the cast of Finders Keepers is Neil Morrissey as metal detectorist family man Martin Stone. Neil says: "If you met Martin in real life, you might be bored by him! He’s a local historian, he has a small engineering firm, and nothing exciting ever happens to him. But he is under financial pressure, and you find out that his daughter’s fiancé, Ashley, is also facing money trouble through his own naivety or idiocy!

Have to say I'm really looking forward to this tonight - not because it's riveting drama but just so we can discuss it here! Thanks @Blondeshavemorefun (although I'm very worried as we appear to watch ALL the same programmes!) 🤣

purpleme12 · 07/02/2024 21:31

So they planted the weapon in the baddie's office?

theresnoonequitelikegrandma · 07/02/2024 22:07

What a load of tosh!

I love my family too, but if my husband had killed someone, I wouldn't be telling him it wasn't his bloody fault and helping him to evade justice!! 🤣🤣

purpleme12 · 07/02/2024 22:16

😂

ToffeeShocker · 07/02/2024 22:29

Well, well, well. At least the last couple of episodes made up for the boring first 2.

He was lowering the spade wasn’t he, when he got blasted?

I don’t understand why would he tell his wife where they buried the son in law? Why? Why would he do that?

daffodilandtulip · 08/02/2024 06:55

Well that was the most bizarre thing I've watched in a while. For once it did all tie up nicely though. I did like how he told his wife though. A nice happily ever after...

How to get away with murder in front of a police officer because the police just want to make jokes about the met instead of listening to a woman.

And my kids know my mobile off by heart 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

butterpuffed · 08/02/2024 13:03

Are Channel 5 having a laugh ? They didn't even make the last episode realistic .
Martin murders one man , is implicated in another and helps hide his future [but not any more!!] son-in-law's body . He gets away with it all and he's seen as an all round nice guy 😅😅😅

purpleme12 · 08/02/2024 13:07

I don't think it was ever going to be realistic 😂

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/02/2024 14:09

Oh wow. Finally seen as was working last night and wouldn't download on my phone

So kept me guessing

So it was good imo

I didn't expect body to be Ashley

But seems all happy he was dead

And vanished in daughters view after she dumped him

As soon as he said I need the loo I knew he was going to plant the weapon as I was right 😂

I'm guessing as she wanted her son home she has to abide /agree with what he did

Plus they got the stolen company money back so quids in

I hadn't realised quite how law-abiding I was until I watched this! So....the wife believes that nothing is more important than loving your family unconditionally , which is why she can handle both her husband and brother being murderers without even a murmur!

If she was on Mumsnet it would be a clear case of LTB - we'd all be advising 'if he can cave a man's head in just because he's robbed him of something he was actually in possession of illegally, then you'll be next!' 🤣🤣

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/02/2024 16:20

Yes she did take it calmly

But then she got her son home so .....

ToffeeShocker · 08/02/2024 16:26

What was the point of the doctor?

purpleme12 · 08/02/2024 16:30

Maybe to reiterate how much the wife loves the husband because she won't go off with another man 😂

ToffeeShocker · 08/02/2024 16:32

Oh yes. Adultery no chance but double murder - bring it on.

purpleme12 · 08/02/2024 16:33

😂

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 08/02/2024 17:25

Poor Ashley.

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/02/2024 17:44

Ashley brought it on hisself

If he didn't gamble and lose all the money he would t have been so desperate to do over his fil

Yes but he still ended up dead.

All very far fetched but a lesson in to do the right thing from the start!

I'm not sure that was the message! Martin didn't do the right thing at the start and yet he got away completely scot free, even after killing someone! 🤣🤣

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 08/02/2024 19:48

🤣 I wouldn’t be able to cope with the guilt. I can’t even commit a parking misdemeanour!

Musomama1 · 09/02/2024 21:29

I really enjoyed this. Shades of Breaking Bad, but with metal detecting!

My only criticism is that it could have done with an extra episode of the wife and daughter coming to terms with it all and then becoming 'bad' themselves i.e. complicit, they seemed to go along with it all a bit too quickly.

Nice to see Neil Morrissey playing a different kind of character.

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/02/2024 22:33

@Musomama1 I still think of him as men behaving badly
