A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the K-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix and Viki, with a sprinkling of AmazonPrime, AppleTV and Disney+. There are also platforms streaming content illegally if you go looking. We don’t promote them as they are peppered with pop-ups of “Olga” and friends offering a good time, but we can point you in the right direction. We also dip into Japanese, Taiwanese & Chinese drama as & when.

Our list is cumulative so includes recommendations and favourites from all previous threads. Shows marked with a star are more uniformly loved or admired. In categorising series, its important to note most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. supernatural, romance and a thriller; crime series with fantasy elements. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series that are tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier moments. Writer/actor Simon Pegg referred to it fondly as “tonal chaos” - it’s part of kdrama’s charm. I'm loving Sweet Home 2 and My Demon. When you get past the cheese, Song Kang is actually a really good actor. Still don't think he'd make my personal list for pub oppa 🤔 but keep chipping away mate 👍🏻😁

After a strong start, Welcome to Samdal-ri tailed off for me in episode 2, despite the fantastic cast 😬 I hope it picks up in this weekend's episodes.

I watched it when DS was about 8 and he was wandering in and out while it was on. He loved the swords and the brightly coured outfits. There was one scene where some villagers are beheaded that's quite bloody that I skipped past but I think it was mostly OK.

Rowdy, you are on fire! TheLoup - you made me spit out my tea with that comment. OK, do I need SI in my life? I really enjoyed Heart Signal. I am not a Love Island fan at all, as I've not been able to get past it just being a 'knocking shop' on TV. Enjoying the amusing bits in My Demon a lot but struggling with the styling of Song Kang in this one. He seems a lot more angular than in Forecasting Love and Weather and combined with the whispy hair is not doing it for me. I am keeping going though as its funny and got a great supporting cast.

Dragonrock I've managed to avoid all reality TV shows (not my bag) but enjoyed SI enormously. Plus the comments here are lolz.

Moon in the Day has been repetitive for a few eps now and the M and FL's same-expressions-all-the-time acting is getting on my tits. But I will persist because I like the premise of the storyline.

Will continue to watch for JCW - the cast is great, so hopefully it will pick up. Am also really enjoying My Demon it's just right up my street. Hope to start Sweet Home 2 this weekend as well, in-between Christmas shopping and getting the tree up finally....

I'm not really into crime /thrillers so I haven't seen Somebody. On today's evidence I'm wondering if I've been missing out a bit...

It's pretty disturbing cobol but it is v good. I had shameful thoughts throughout that I definitely would not have had had KYK not been involved 🫢😳

Cobol I think Somebody was actually my top drama of 2023 🤔 but be prepared for quite extreme nastiness and sexually explicit content (as well as a cracking story, great acting and a fantastic soundtrack). It's a bit of a love or hate one. Content vaguely comprarable to Mask Girl, if you've seen that.

I echo everything Saram has said, but it was the marmite option last year, for viewing.

Completely opposite to Somebody is TSOPMC. It's pure cheese, but absolutely delightful cheese that puts a silly grin on my face. I just love the M&F leads' interactions.
