A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the K-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix and Viki, with a sprinkling of AmazonPrime, AppleTV and Disney+. There are also platforms streaming content illegally if you go looking. We don’t promote them as they are peppered with pop-ups of “Olga” and friends offering a good time, but we can point you in the right direction. We also dip into Japanese, Taiwanese & Chinese drama as & when.

Our list is cumulative so includes recommendations and favourites from all previous threads. Shows marked with a star are more uniformly loved or admired. In categorising series, its important to note most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. supernatural, romance and a thriller; crime series with fantasy elements. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series that are tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier moments. Writer/actor Simon Pegg referred to it fondly as “tonal chaos” - it’s part of kdrama’s charm. I stuck with it. It’s very entertaining. Only tangentially thread-related as the action moved from Taiwan to LA quickly. 10/10 for Justin Chien’s cracking abs and Michelle Yeoh is rocking the whole gangster mom thing.

I'm not really a horror fan but the horror bits were so obviously CGI it wasn't that bad. There was some horrible violence and torture though that was harder to watch.
PSJ being a v good romantic hero was worth it though (although I am now annoyed about the end!)

I agree with this. Once they’d shown me the monster I was able to power through GC.

I felt that while GC would benefit from a season 2, but could have also stood on its own, in the tradition of many horror movies which have ended with an unknown, but possibly worse, future in store.

What on earth was the attraction of Gwan-Hee? He is in his mid 30's and was the most annoyingly immature one in the group. Not to mention his piggy eyes and lack of chin.

Did it make you laugh though? It made me laugh so hard. The juxtaposition of the two narratives running in parallel was so unexpected. When DH finishes his current episode of Succession, I’ll be switching over to The Brothers Sun. It is very funny, but also 🫣

Tbh aside from the always marvellous Michelle Yeoh I wasn't that taken with the rest of it as there is so much fighting, I'll give it another episode to see.

They're all adapted from manhwas, aren't they? If a manhwa has proven really popular it's pretty much a green light for development into a drama.

I agree it's PMY's best role in ages, I'm actually enjoying her in this. Can't wait for ML to get a decent suit to wear. Thoroughly enjoying all the revenge scenes and Sumin getting what she deserves

I’m still watching The Brothers Sun (so not strictly on topic, but here comes the arc bending back) and they’re playing Yaeji’s Raingurl in the super-hip club scene in ep 4. I recognised it straight away. Chingus, my kdrama obsession means I have hip Korean dance music on my playlist. 🤣

The Korean spa in episode is amazing - if I’m ever in LA I would love to visit a spa like this one (w/o the triads and bodies piling up, obvs).

Marry My Husband is fab! It is giving me everything I want- revenge, great clothes, cuteness, makeovers. Love love love it. I am tandeming with Perfect Marriage Revenge for an overload of fluff and drama.

My Happy Ending is not what I expected - it's a Korean Hitchcock drama and nothing is what it seems.

Yes! Migs I watched the first couple of episodes and have no idea how it is going to pan out - I thought it was quite dream like - its an unreliable narrator and you're not sure what is real and what isn't.

I think the trailer for Dr Slump looks good as well AmVa. I also saw a trailer this morning for one with Choi Woo Shik and Son Sokku called A Killer Paradox thatI thought looked good as well.
