Oh bless her, the one at the end with her dreams, the wedding dress she designed in her head, picking her engagement ring out of the catalogue...

I thought the programme was incredibly moving.

dragonbutter · 13/03/2008 22:09

I just liked seeing the newborn babies, always makes me emotional.

SparklyGothKat · 13/03/2008 22:10

i wanna a baby!!!!!!

poshwellies · 13/03/2008 22:10

hate the term pramface speaking as a once teenage mother

warmsummersday · 13/03/2008 22:11

Yes I am very lucky also, to have a supportive husband, lovely house, 2 gorgeous girls I feel very lucky.

I do feel sorry for these girls but also they did a great job in the program, coped well with their labours (better than me!). Poor kerry though, wanting someone to love her and wanting to give her child what she didn't have. These girls are so young but have grown up so quickly with their babies. I thought it was very sweet at the end watching the mum's play with their babies.

I was really suprised when I went to a children's indoor play center and saw a group of mum's who were all about 17- 18 and one mum was sitting breastfeeding her baby who must have been 7 months old, I thought that was really good. My mum was with me and she said she wanted to go over and tell her how well she was doing, it's that sort of encouragement these women need.

Didn't think of it like that about the income support, that's scary. Also when Kerry said she will never work again, how will they afford that then?

I am quite young myself, 26 with 2 children aged 5 and 1 but my how my life is different!

warmsummersday · 13/03/2008 22:17

and yes I did wonder why none of them were breastfeeding, after all it's free.........

bundle · 13/03/2008 22:18

gawdknows mmj
we have the highest rate of teen pregnancy and i think lots of young women deserve better (not talking about those who choose to have childrne in relationship, but lots of the ones we saw tonight were v far from that)

Indith · 13/03/2008 22:20

Never went back to the other couple who had an older girl, is that because they were too good and functional without problems?

Was emotional but felt the programme didn't actually deal with any issues and seemed a little pointless

tmmj I'm not going to say that we don't need to improve contraception and sex education, we do, but "what excuses do people have" contracepton doesn't always work!

dragonbutter · 13/03/2008 22:20

i think the excuse lies somewhere with the sex/contraceptive education.

dragonbutter · 13/03/2008 22:22

Indith, it's true, programme was a bit 'oh look and point at these people'.
Not sure i learned anything.

warmsummersday · 13/03/2008 22:25

Yes I agree about the contraception side of it but I also think these young women think having a baby will make their life so much more better when in fact it is hard going and they don't realise that. As one girls said 'life is boring' basically saying what else is there to do apart from have a baby, maybe get a better education/ job, settle down with the right person, get a house, travel abit etc etc.

I think everyone needs to have a bit of a life before having children. I had DD1 at 21 and looking back now I think god how young I was, nothing like the program though. But I have been with my husband for 10 years now and we are very settled, travelled before having the girls so it was right for us.

amytheearwaxbanisher · 13/03/2008 22:44

i hate the term pramface babies i was nineteen having ds going out with dh four years, living together for two,and married for one at that stage and while ds was a supprise he is a much loved one,he is our lives and we are currently[not as i type] ttc next one dh works two jobs and i am a sahm what is wrong with any of that?

amelie · 14/03/2008 10:37

That show was originally called 'DeLiver Birds' apparently and had a nice balance of middle-class and working class, all ages - from the mid-30s to first-time teen pregnancies.

One cursory glance from a certain CH4 exec and any middle-classness had been snipped away (they don't swear enough) and the title changed to something more noticable in the schedules - like 'Pramface' - much easier to spot as one scrolls through the Freeview listings.
