Quite liked the ITT filler item where the pros discussed how they choreograph. Karen saying she no longer listens to the music before she choreographs and only beginning the choreography right before each Monday morning rehearsal this year ...... well, that accounts for a lot of Eddie's routines.

Nigel and Katya are a big loss to the competition at this stage. I want Ellie and Vito to win but I can't remember the last time the winner wasn't obvious.

I am very late to this weeks show (goddamn festive weekend) but I found Bobby as Swayze a bit cringe (perhaps my age? Far too old to find BB attractive!). However I thought Dianne looked stunning with that brunette wig on and it makes me wonder if that’s closest to her natural colour.

My tuppence worth on the Great Layton Debate is that I wish he would use his considerable talents to learn the style of each weeks dance - I personally dislike how every dance has the same spins and leaps.
At this point though surely we attribute that to Nikita’s choreo?

I will be voting for Ellie all the way now.

This series has really put me off Nikita for the reason you identified. As much as I complain about all the dances being Laytonised, ultimately it is Nikita who is probably doing a majority of the choreography so the blame has to lie with him too.

I thought it was very interesting that they all agreed how nuch easier it is if a celeb has dance training. A good advantage when you're teaching and planning the choreography.

I really liked AngelaS and Carlos. I was so sorry to see them go. Of those left I only really like Annabelle and Jojo. I ‘m bored of all the Laytonised dances, Bobby just isn’t great and yes Ellie is good but she doesn’t move me, not one bit.

The Laytonization is mostly on Nikita as he admitted himself. I get that you make the most of your celebrity's skills but Layton might have a few more fans if it wasn't all so "Layton". The main problem with it is very little or no light and shade. It's all on one level and that is big and showy and while that works for some of the dances it doesn't work for most of them. I'll be interested to see their rumba on Saturday. There's no hiding in that and if they big it up too much it will be awful. Nikita should have been pushing for greater skill in ballroom and Latin. Their American smooth showed just how much he's lacking in the most basic of skills. It wasn't awful, naturally, because he's a great dancer but I think everyone was surprised at how meh it was. The thing that stuck out to me was how bad his posture was. Ultimately, it doesn't matter in terms of getting to the final, but the lack of obvious learning and progress will make it highly unlikely that he'll win.

wrt the hate he's been getting. I admit I was unaware of how vile it was. I suspected that there might be a bit of homophobia and racism but the extent of it is goes above and beyond what I thought might be out there and is up there as the worst sort of hate and abuse I've seen on social media which is saying a lot. There are things about him to criticise, but there are some vile people out there, shitty little keyboard warriors probably having a wank whilst they type out their venom. They're hardly worth giving any thought to but that's easy enough to say when they're not directing it at you.

Not someone in the show but some journalist who he looked at a bit funny once upon a time. I don't believe that he's disliked by the other celebrities at all as it's been clear at different points in the contest that he's well-liked and that he likes them back. That's the tabloids for you though. Why print the truth when some made up bullshit will sell more copies/get more clicks.

This lift is famous but surely it's not exceptionally hard to do otherwise they wouldn't have let her attempt it with a celebrity partner.

I’m sure others have posted here that Nigel has refused to do the usual promo circuit during his time in strictly (though no idea how they knew that!) so maybe that’s pissed a few journos off.

My guess for next week is:
Layton does both dances to an extremely high standard and tops the leader board.
Ellie also does very well on both dances but scores slightly less well than Layton
Bobby does a ropy quickstep and a deeply unconvincing paso but gets overmarked to come third
Johannes does the bare minimum of work on the salsa and they make a pig's ear of it but they score very highly on the VW; Annabel is bottom of the combined leaderboard.

Annabel dances off against Bobby doing her VW and is sent through to the final with Motsi voting the other way.

Agree, much as I like/have liked Nikita, he's getting overexcited about having a sleb who can perform. It's tricky line to walk; I know some people on here like Layton and his routines, and clearly the judges do too, so he's appealing to them – but then the DO the other week shows that a lot of the voting public DON'T vote for him/them.
It is the same performance every time, and sometimes they get lucky and it suits the dance and/or the judges are struck with selective blindness about technique and timing, and sometimes the judges are in a different mood and pick him up on it.

I'm really pissed off that he gets a rumba – which I think he WILL hide in, inasmuch as it'll be twirly and swirly and dramatic, and Motsi and Anton will love it – and a Charleston, which the judges have already said will suit him down to the ground. He needed to do a Viennese or a slow foxtrot and show that he and Nikita have bothered training in actual ballroom technique.

Still, I think the usual ringer rule will prevail – he'll get to the final but will have little public support and so won't win.

I’m not knowledgeable at all, but in that section in hold Layton and Nikita kept bumping knees and hips and gapping. They looked like they were wrestling rather than melting together and moving as one.

And that’s worse than any of the other C’lebs at this stage!

Ellie and Layton will have only done 4 ballroom dances each by this weekend.

Ellie: Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz, American Smooth and Quick Step.

Layton: Viennese Waltz, American Smootb, Quick Step and Tango.

To get to week 12 and having only done 4 seems unfair, I think. I blame Couple's Choice.

I am visiting family overseas, so watching everything on catchup. It's a lot duller, but the whole competition suddenly has become duller with Nigel and Katya gone.

What a cursed series. I can't remember a single memorable dance that I might watch back. Can anyone?

I've already watched quite a few of Nikita and Laytons dances back, also the Wednesday Halloween pro routine.

Nikita and Layton don't do that much for me somehow, though I am also glad Layton is there, as otherwise the standard would be even lower, plus I like watching Nikita being able to dance to his fullest. But they don't move me in my core., probably because Layton looks like he is fighting Nikita most of the time.

I think no one has moved me enough this year. I hope Ellie comes up with something spectacular for her show dance.

I was talking only about the actual dances, not the pro routines.

Even pro routines have got duller with each series. Too much like a pop video these days.

Not really a fan of the Wednesday Halloween routine.

In previous years, didn't they do a Halloween intro dance with the contestants and judges? I vaguely remember one to You Spin Me Round in Danny Mac's year.

They had a really effective routine with Brendan as Dracula and Karen and Kevin as a doomed couple. I'll put it in the video thread if I can find it.
