The BBC are officially saying that they will announce which way they're playing it live on the show.

Their options are:

1. hold their nerves, proceed as normal to a 2 person final and pray to any deity they can think of that nobody else gets injured in the next 2 weeks
2. announce at the beginning of the Saturday show that they're skipping the elimination this week
3. skip the elimination this week and roll the votes and scores over to next week - effectively having a 2 week semi-final
4. skip the elimination next week when they'll have more time to replan/scrap the results show.
5. skip the elimination this week but not actually announce that that's what they're doing until the end of the dance-off (with or without the points rolling over)

I think that 3 would be the best option and probably the way to bet because it builds in safety while still making this week's performance meaningful but all their previous conduct suggests they might opt for 1. I can see the temptation for 5 but it might backfire.

I really feel for them both, but particularly Katya; this has been her best Strictly for ages.
It must be pretty serious if it’s only happened today and he’s pulled out immediately. AJ was having treatment up until the last minute before she conceded that she’d have to leave, and she tore ligaments, which is serious enough.
Surely they can’t eliminate someone this week and have a two-couple final? They’re dull for us and exhausting for the couples.

Any official decision?

A two-person final is massively risky. What if someone gets ill or injured a couple of days prior? Not so bad (although disappointing) if it’s the pro because another pro can step in, but if it’s a celeb ….

Dispute as to nature of injury: rib or leg have both been reported.
Not clear when sustained - morning run/dress run or whether he was unable to go in at all today.

I do remember Mark's partner, the violinist Lindsay performing with a floating rib. Still can't believe producers let her do it tbh.

they can’t not boot someone this week if they allow people to vote. Some people will have paid for texts

If they carry the votes over until next week, the overall scores will be very high, as each couple dances two dances in the semi-final. Not sure how that would work with the public vote. If the bottom couple scored 7s for each dance, that would be a total of 84 (28 x 3), and if the top couple scored all 10s (120), that would be a very large gap. Would that affect anything with the voting?? I need to ask my eldest son, who's a stats/maths guy.

Guess there's no way around it though. Deliberately creating a two-person final at this stage doesn't seem sensible.

I truly hope they skip an elimination, either this week and effectively have a two week quarter final by rolling over the scores like they do in weeks 1 and 2, or skip the elimination next week.

A 2 person final is an anti climax. It's also risky, in 2021 we were on course for a 3 person final until a few days before when AJ was forced to drop out. This year there's still tonight's performance for someone to injure themselves, plus the next two weeks of training and next week's performance. If they don't skip an elimination, if someone else gets ill/injured they're on course for a coronation.

Gosh. All we need is for one more celeb to get injured and they might as well cancel the final altogether.

thats a real shame. I was enjoying their dances each week. Didn’t take himself too seriously but at the same time was disappointed when the dances didn’t go well.
I can’t do the maths but a roll over seems the only way round. People just don’t vote tonight roll judges scores over?

If the final is just Leyton and someone else it will be silly. Leyton won’t win , so it will be pointless

But that has happened before and it was obvious who would win.

Can’t bring back Angela and Carlos they haven’t got a dance to do.

This is my first year watching Strictly. Is it always this much of a shitshow?
