Many have done either Children in need Strictlies OR Xmas Strictlies and then gone on to do a series.
e.g Harry Judd won his CIN one with a paso with Ola before winning the series with Aliona

What they haven't done is to have the same partner again
What they usually don't do is to repeat the dance style they learnt (except Helen Skelton, who jived twice).

Did maisie also not do the Christmas special before joining the "main" show?

I think Maisie did the children in need (or comic relief?) Strictly a few years ago, against Louisa Lytton - can't remember who else. Maisie won it, but I thought Louisa was the better of the two.

SequinsandStiIettos · 23/11/2023 13:33

Yes, Maisie won with Kev CIN 2019 (see link) before competing with Gorka.
This makes Kevin the only one who has won the main show and a Charity show and a Christmas show yep, I am a nerd

SequinsandStiIettos · 23/11/2023 13:42

Harry Judd is the sleb who has done the Kev equivalent - won CIN with Ola, series with Aliona and Xmas with Joanne.

Xmas winner double Louis (main show + Xmas)
Xmas Winner treble Darren, Jill (main show + Xmas twice!!)
Xmas winner redemptions Colin, Melvin(!), Aston, Debbie
(and Katie Derham won it but maybe that was redemption for Brendan! Grin)

SequinsandStiIettos · 23/11/2023 14:03

(Oh and Ramps won Sport Relief after having won main show)

Contestants who did a one-off special first then main series later:

Xmas then main show
Fern Britton 2010/2012
Simon Webbe 2011/2014
Helen Skelton 2012/2022
Matt Goss 2013/2022

Sport Relief then main show
Alex Scott 2008/2019

CIN then main show
Harry Judd 2010/2011
Susanna Reid 2011/2013
Maisie Smith 2019/2020

SequinsandStiIettos · 23/11/2023 14:10

Xmas so far
Dan Snow and Nadiya (no partner)
Jamie Borthwick and Nancy (first boot)
Sally Nugent and Graz (eliminated 5th)

I, too, would like to see Neil and Michelle have a partner.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 23/11/2023 14:11

Sequins, you truly are a mine of information 😄

SequinsandStiIettos · 23/11/2023 14:17

Nah, I like stats and Glitterball is my hobby as I am a sad arse!
I don't blog so have never had spreadsheets like Monkseal, but I do like a good geek out from time to time and when I am procrastinating
I was in awe of the lady who used to run Ultimate Strictly. Much missed and lamented, it used to hold all the songs that couples had used. It was a mine of info but sadly, she stopped watching/couldn't afford to keep the site up.

Girlontherailreplacementbusservice · 23/11/2023 16:43

I remember one of the either Christmas or CiN special winners who then went on to do the main series saying they had to start training for the main series later than the other competitors so they didn't have an 'advantage' but I can't remember who it was but it was probably either Harry, Fern or Susanna as that feels like about the right length of time ago.

Girlontherailreplacementbusservice · 23/11/2023 16:47

@CaveMum
Jeremy Hunt. Apparently he does a bit of Latin in his spare time (god can you imagine!)
That is a rhumba I would pay good money to not see.💷💷💷🙈

🤣🤣🤣 Have you ever seen the film “Shall We Dance”? I’m having visions of Stanley Tucci in his wig and fake tan….

CaveMum · 23/11/2023 17:43

@Girlontherailreplacementbusservice I’ve popped a clip on the video thread just for you!

I'm really, really trying my very best to not picture Jeremy Hunt at all, but especially not in a Latin outfit.

Pass the brain bleach please. 🛢️💉🧠

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 23/11/2023 18:03

Darren Gough has done the double of main series and Xmas special too I think.

He did a quickstep-based American Smooth to Santa Claus is Coming to Town that I love. If he didn't win with it, he should have done!

Oh no sorry, I see you've listed him — I read that as Jill and Darren, rather than Darren, and Jill. Grin

I like Dan Snow and his history programmes! Though I never end up watching the Xmas special somehow, as am usually seething at the Strictly results by then, as my fave never wins.

Never normally watch it either. Usually on just as we are tucking into the turkey or having a post dinner snooze on the sofa

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 23/11/2023 19:04

Funny how so many Strictly fans are a bit meh about the Christmas special. I thought it was just me. If I watch it at all now, it'll be on Boxing Day, when it's quiet again and I've got nothing better to do there's nobody else about. I bet it's fun to be in the audience when the show's recorded and the series is in full swing, but as a standalone special thing, nah.

MouseMinge · 23/11/2023 20:00

Yep, I'm surprised to find that most of us who are big fans of the series in general are not interested in the Christmas special.

Lentilweaver · 23/11/2023 20:03

TBh, by Xmas, DH is well and truly fed up with Strictly!

Also not really that much of a fan of the Xmas special. I don't know if it's because you don't get the time to learn about the celebs / grow to love them? Unless you already know them.

I normally record it and watch at some point - normally when I've had enough of hyper kids and want an excuse to hush them. 🤫

QueenOfThorns · 23/11/2023 20:22

I’ve never seen it! Too busy doing Christmas stuff Smile

Love the stats @SequinsandStiIettos - thanks!

I like the Christmas special and always watch it when it’s on. It’s so Christmassy!
