Has anyone watched this? It's quite emotional though Stacey Dooley is grating on me. It's a geneALOGIST not an -ologist.

It's a genealogist not an -ologist. The number following 19 is not twenny. A female child is not a gewowl.

@KateMiddletonsExtensions

Crikey.

Glad you are so sure.

It seems to me that the only “acceptable” regional accents at the BBC are Scottish and Welsh. I understand that these two accents are regarded generally as trusted/likeable but all the same, the lack of diversity isn’t great from a corporation that’s supposed to represent the UK ….

I for one find Stacey’s Luton accent refreshing. Rather than yet another standard English, Welsh or Scottish one. I also like Tess Daly’s Lancashire accent on Strictly. But each to their own!

I really love Stacey's accent. And her pronunciation is fine for someone with that accent, in response to another poster.

I 🙄 at these accent snobs who think only x way is the right way to say words, just because they don't personally like a particular accent.

The only thing I would not be surprised to find is that my father, who had affairs, has actually fathered children with women other than my mother.

My dad is on a few databases and I wonder if extra marital children will pop up sometime. I doubt he was ever monogamous with any of his wives.

It isn't Stacey's accent that is annoying, it is the laziness of not pronouncing the consonants. The "T"s mainly.

Also, "th" as an f. First, second, fird, forf, fif.

The non pronunciation of the letter t is called t-glottalisation. It's not laziness, it's a common and natural part of speech in a variety of accents and dialects throughout the UK.

Also, some of the music they use on the programme is lovely.

She is.
I love her soft, gentle musical voice.

Love this show, genealogy makes my inner geek very happy!

When I see programmes like this, is does make me think about all the damage being done to children when a woman goes ahead with a pregnancy and doesn’t tell the father, or have the father in the child’s life. (Abuse etc notwithstanding) I do sometimes feel there’s too much focus on the rights of the woman and not enough on the right of the child. This programme and others makes it very clear that there’s a lot of anguish surrounding people not knowing their heritage and ancestry

But …. you’ve heard of accents … right ….?

The UK has 100s of them. Can’t believe I’m explaining this to someone on a UK site.

English speakers outside the UK also have different accents. #statesobvious

Has anyone else watched 6/6 yet? The one that began with 28yo Lancastrian Charlotte who was seeking her bio father? I liked it but I’m sad it was the last ep. Such a great programme!

Yes. The man Lviss in this week's said he felt empty not knowing who his dad was and it affected his self esteem. I think people didn't realise how it affected people in the past but we know now.

I feel like this series there have been more cases where they weren't able to locate the parent.

Etincelle · 06/11/2023 01:41

I've seen Stacey in a lot of things and I think she has a talent for getting on with all sorts of people and saying the right things. I remember an episode of a programme where she stayed with an upper class land owning family and they loved her by the end of it.
