A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the K-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix and Viki, with a sprinkling of AmazonPrime, AppleTV and Disney+. There are also platforms streaming content illegally if you go looking. We don’t promote them as they are peppered with pop-ups of “Olga” and friends offering a good time, but we can point you in the right direction. We also dip into Japanese, Taiwanese, Thai & Chinese drama as & when.

but our list is cumulative so includes recommendations and favourites from all previous threads. Shows marked with a star are more uniformly loved or admired. In categorising series, most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. supernatural, romance and a thriller; crime series with fantasy elements. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series that are tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier moments. Writer/actor Simon Pegg referred to it fondly as “tonal chaos” - it’s part of kdrama’s charm. We’re still stuck with Bublé’s Christmas album on a loop because of a SNAFU with the lights. An emergency trip to Home Bargains has sorted the lights situation, but we’re at least two hours behind schedule. I’ll be outvoted about watching Dr Who live so no TSOPMC for me until much later this evening. Sigh.

I was just going to say the same thing. Looks like dodgy filler to me, so it might improve over time. That first pic is so cute.

There is very much a generic 'look' that a lot of the celebrities seem to go for isn't there?

To be fair, you could say the same about the Hollywood aesthetic and surgery outcomes.

I am now wondering what the UK equivalent would be. If there were age bandings I could guess at the 20-30ish facial aesthetic from the conformity of Tiktok/Insta/YouTube influencers and the effort my younger colleagues put into contouring and eyebrows.

Oh definitely boaty - by no means only a K-phenomenon, and I'm not dragging cosmetic procedures at all - because if I could afford it there is a thing or two I would get fixed!

Oooh I have FOMO for TSOPMC so may have to dip into that tonight. Currently I am working through Castaway Diva which I am watching on my commute and whilst drying hair. At the same time I have Perfect Marriage Revenge on the go for general viewing.

Had a very productive day today with Xmas shopping and batch cooking. Have the house to myself tonight as DH is staying over at DD's new place due to fatherly DIY duties. Planning on going to Asian supermarket tomorrow if I get chance as running out of supplies.

Oppa I'd second (or third 🤔) Reply 1988 - definitely up there in the best dramas ever 🥹 Hometown Cha Cha Cha is my personal top slice-of-life drama. Also a big yes to Love to Hate You and Crash Course in Romance from earlier this year. I'd add The Good Bad Mother, too. A real mix of themes and moods but ultimately a beautifully written, beautifully acted drama, with some great slice-of-life content.

I enjoy the fridge porn PP the most on kdramas. I love the idea of a window into my fridge that lights up when I tap it or a little beer hatch, but the reality of our precarious fridge Tetris means it would disappoint in practice. I’m assuming I’m not the only person here with a shelf given up to half eaten jars of jam, chutney, curry pastes and novelty pickled stuff.

I’ve started watching Perfect Marriage Revenge. The FL’s family and husband are awful human beings. Pantomime villain baddies. It’s a great set-up. I want to see her prevail.

Re PPL I do now own a cordless vacuum, I must admit, though not a Dyson one. And I caught DH checking out the Samsung flip phone the other day....but that's about it, I think. Although I did watch a drama recently that had so much product placement in it I actually ended up having a dream about KFC 🤣🤣🤣

Cobol, I succumbed to the cordless ppl last year. It's inferior to my corded Miele and then I found out that corded makes for a more powerful vacuum cleaner.😫

Under Armour is all over Vigilante like a rash, and I'm surprised at the appearance of Apple phones and MacBooks in several of this year's dramas.
