A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the K-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix and Viki, with a sprinkling of AmazonPrime, AppleTV and Disney+. There are also platforms streaming content illegally if you go looking. We don’t promote them as they are peppered with pop-ups of “Olga” and friends offering a good time, but we can point you in the right direction. We also dip into Japanese, Taiwanese, Thai & Chinese drama as & when.

but our list is cumulative so includes recommendations and favourites from all previous threads. Shows marked with a star are more uniformly loved or admired. In categorising series, most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. supernatural, romance and a thriller; crime series with fantasy elements. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series that are tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier moments. Writer/actor Simon Pegg referred to it fondly as “tonal chaos” - it’s part of kdrama’s charm. We’ve finished Strong Girl Nam Soon and all in all we enjoyed it though Nam Soon was very annoying some of the time.
I wonder - Roy Shi-O was a thorough bad’ un and sadist. However he was also shown to have a vulnerable side and I think he genuinely loved Nam Soon.
Would such a character ever appear in a Western drama, or would someone who did such evil things never be shown as having even a slightly sympathetic side?

A little update on Cheer Up I'm actually really enjoying it, it's definitely not as cheesy as I thought it was going to be. The plot has a good amount of intrigue and the leads are cute and I'm rooting for them. It seems like a good one to binge

We have just started TSOPMC and we enjoyed the first episode.

I've got Cheer Up on my watch list rowdy 👍 Itried to start TSOPMC but I wasn't quite in the mood for it for some reason, I'll have to revisit. I'm thinking I need to comfort watch something familiar and low effort - not sure what yet....

I'm nearly done with Suspicious Partners. Loving the sleeping scenes (swoon!) and mild humour. I also just laughed quite irrationally at the scene attached . I think I'm craving a bit more 'Korean' settings though - their houses are lovely but quite Westernised. I'm not explaining it very well but I like the granny next door feeling when you see them pottering about in real houses rather than show homes? BYT was good for feeling like a local, Matrimonial Chaos was another recent one with similar vibes. Am wondering what to line up next. I've watched Little Women and Daily Dose of Sunshine, Till Murder Do Us Part, Love After Divorce, Business Proposal, Beyond Evil and A Time Called You.
