Sorry if I'm late to the party, but I've just seen this.

Can't wait to start (cancels all plans for the rest of the day).

I've also binge watched.. aww sully! Dushane deserved nothing more, but Sully 😫 why couldn't he go back to the boat.

BlindyPeakers · 13/09/2023 11:48

Sully's canal boat romance is my favourite Top Boy moment of all time!

rockingbird · 13/09/2023 12:05

Mine to.. I'd have happily lived on that boat with him forever. 😆

Goldflap · 13/09/2023 12:51

The evictions stuff and the riot were a bit farcical, there's no way people would be termed out like that ( I work in housing so it probably bugged me more than it should) but it's so crazy how even though Sully does despicable things you still just want to love him and for him to know happiness.
I love Stef too , his romance with Erin was very touching.
Totally agree it was all mad rushed could have eaten up six more episodes.

*I never really liked Shelly (but I love Little Sims) just didn't ever think her and Dushanbe were credible and her getting all spoilt in this season then deciding she had integrity again

BeggyMitchell · 13/09/2023 12:58

Binged over the weekend instead of prepping for an interview this weekend, so good.

Say less !

Thisisworsethananticpated · 10/09/2023 22:57

Well
binged it this weekend

without spoilers
I can’t see how they do another season

I think they can because they left in on such a cliffhanger iykwim.

Mercibuckets · 14/09/2023 18:32

Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler (I’ll be a little bit coy just in case)

So this wasn’t the best series (I watched them from the start again and can’t chose between 2, 3 or 4 ) but it’s still so much better than most things.

The conversation between Dushane and Sully at the end was so well done - I was really transfixed - it’s the absolute essence of the whole 5 series. I love the complexity of all the characters- you forget they’re bad people who do very bad things.

I wish it didn’t end the way it did. I thought it was inevitable that Duchane and Sully would die as it was supposed to be the final ever series, but at that point he was killed I wasn’t expecting it and it was a big unsatisfactory.

I’m so glad they left Steph out of things. You want him to be okay and yeah really could see Aaron putting him in care? Wasn’t he at university in London?

I’d love a spin off.
A spin off with Power? OMG. Jumping the shark but I would totally watch it!

Mercibuckets · 14/09/2023 18:33

*couldn't see Aaron 🙄

PictureFrameWindow · 14/09/2023 18:42

Same @rockingbird 😅

FiloPasty · 14/09/2023 18:44

Great interview on the diary of the ceo podcast this week

BusyBees1234 · 14/09/2023 18:59

I think the first series is the best, Darnell was my favourite character

TibetanTerrah · 14/09/2023 19:05

I'm watching it all again with DM. She'll be completely hooked in no time (only one episode in). She's a huge Power fan as well Grin

I still don't like Seasons 1 and 2 as much as the Netflix ones, but that might be because I didn't know 1 and 2 were called Summerhouse and so I watched it all in the wrong order, started with Season 3 and had to start over mid way through Hmm

illbeinthegarden · 14/09/2023 20:04

I watched all this when it was on tv ages ago... or maybe it was on Netflix I can't remember but I've seen it. Was surprised when people started talking about it again. I'm now watching it all again though cause it's great tv! I wish it was more obvious you need to watch summerhouse first so people can see it in order though!

mrssunshinexxx · 15/09/2023 01:19

@FiloPasty what's it called please

mrssunshinexxx · 15/09/2023 01:19

Just started this on ep 5 of series 1 toy boy .,, should i be watching something else first ??

BlindyPeakers · 15/09/2023 03:38

The first two seasons are Called "Top Boy Summerhouse" on Netflix. Then seasons 3-5 are just called "Top Boy"

I watched it in the wrong order and just watched summer house after finishing the finale.
I was quite struck how low budget it feels, a lot less slick and the music is totally different; they've really honed in on uk grime in 3-5 yet summerhouse has a lot more soul and even guitars.

Also the difference in Dushane and sully is immense. Such cold hardened characters who never smile in the newer seasons whereby they seem quite young and playful in comparison im summerhouse

I'm just watching it all again (in the right order this time) with DM who has never seen it before.

Summerhouse is very... Channel 4, and 3-5 has Netflix all over it. More violence, more twists, more extreme, more shock factor.

I feel quite sad that I will never truly appreciate Summerhouse because I was 'ruined' by watching 3-5 first which set the tone of what to expect. Summerhouse was flat in comparison! But DM was told to expect a slow build up, and that 3-5 completely change. We've just started Season 3 so I think she's bracing herself knowing what Netflix stuff can be like.

I know D&S are much younger in Summerhouse, but my god I'd forgotten how daft and chaotic they were, especially Sully. Cutting the wrong finger off, accidentally shooting Lee who set them up, accidentally killing Kamale's cousin, all because Sully was so impulsive. I'm amazed they survived as long as they did!

The director's take on the final episode. Definitely worth a watch (imho!)

Thank you for this !

It's a pleasure!

After that YouTube gave me a 40 minute Sully documentary 😍 Will have to see if I can find it again as I got interrupted and didn't make it all the way through.

Just finished this and thought it was amazing. The last episode reminded me of Les Miserables, the way all the individual characters were playing out their own story arcs while the streets burned around them. And the confrontation between D and S… just epic. Masterful acting from Kane Robinson.

Crinkle77 · 30/09/2023 23:15

I've just finished it and I am can't help but feel they got their just desserts and towards the end I despised them. I liked Dushane in the first series as he seemed the more level headed and reasonable of the two but his behaviour just became more erratic and his treatment of Shelley was awful. Although they didn't have any chemistry and their relationship wasn't believable.

I started to like Sully during his friendship with Jason. Poor Jason 😢 After that and when he was living on the barge he became more likeable. I really hoped he was going to give up the lifestyle but he just got worse. I wanted him to have some sort of redemption arc but it wasn't to be.

I was also slightly disappointed cos the episode guide for the very last episode said a Sully is confronted by his past. I really hoped it was Dris. I kind of hoped Sully had let him go and that maybe the body found on thd roof wasn't really him.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed it and feel slightly bereft it has now finished.

Hotsaucegal · 30/09/2023 23:21

The acting was still brilliant but plot sort of fell apart as @SaltedCaramelIcedLatte pointed out. Overall I’m a bit disappointed that this is how it’s all going to be left.
