SPOILERS I’m rewatching ER for the billionth time. I need a portable c spine, Chem 7 and an intubation kit.

Why could Carter never be allowed to be happy?!
Why did they let Mark die (sob).
Poor Carter.
I have an irrational dislike of Thandie Newton because she (I know she didn’t really) broke his heart and he never found love again.
I’ve got to series 10 so it will start to get rubbish soon.

@Needmorelego It’s the hair! Like the Golden Girls they all had old lady hair even though they were relatively young.

I’ve just watched the last episode. Grrrrrrr Thandie Newton!! Still angry.

@Fifireee oh yes....a lot of big perms and/or hair that does not move in the slightest back in the 90s.
On ER (and over on NYPD Blue) the females all wore very crisp sharp clothes (if you get what I mean).
Some of the medical language in the early years of ER sounds dreadful now. A character with Down Syndrome was referred to by the "R" word - not in a insult way but a medical way.
It is nearly 30 years ago though. How old are Carol's twins now 🤔

Needmorelego · 03/09/2023 20:08

@Fifireee of course I Googled......the twins will be 24 in November !!

Massive ER fan here..
I’ve probably rewatched it about 20 times. DP got me the box set shortly after it finished. At the moment though it’s available to watch on sky demand. I’m up to season 11 on this rewatch. Ask me anything I’ll tell ya.
Carter was just one of them characters that had everything and anything go against him. It sucked really because he really cared about his patients, he cared for his friends.
i remember the first ever episode i properly watched was the last epsiode of season 6 when carol went to Doug…I was 11 then I’d seen bits and pieces before as my mum and aunt absolutely loved it. I remember when Carol had the babies but it was on pretty late so I was always sent to bed. From season 7 I watched it religiously and then they showed reruns from season 1 and I was hooked. So I’ve been watching it 24 years. My dd10 often watches it with me, I usually now watch it when I’m ironing, she knows some of the characters names.
mark dying was sad but we kind of expected it. Now Pratt’s death gets me everytime. Like no one expected it. He was fine and then he wasn’t. Morris I feel had the biggest character growth on the show. He was an absolute dick in the beginning and by season 14 I loved him.
my fave characters were Doug, Carol, mark, Ray, Abby, Carter, Luka, it’s questionable but I really like Sam. I liked susan better in her second arc on the show, thought she was a bit whiny in the first one.
i know loads of people love greys anatomy but in my opinion it’s not even in the same league as ER. One of a kind.

After an ER clip turned up on my YouTube suggestions recently, i compulsively watched a few more before giving in and found myself rewatching the series for the second time. I'm now up to series 12. I handled marks death relatively ok this time, was a mess over carter's baby and not sure I can put myself through Pratt.

I've never watched the West Wing but after reading previous comments, I'm making it next on my list.

NotMadeOfStone · 05/09/2023 12:42

When you start The West Wing be prepared to give several months of your life away.

It's incredible.

Beckafett · 09/09/2023 07:46

My partner has never watched it but binge watched 3 episodes next to me the other day. They couldn’t believe how many actors they recognised- it seems to be a springboard for so many people

Willmafrockfit · 09/09/2023 12:43

i have watched it every night now
it is getting annoying sadly
the fast paced element is exciting
but the stories and the lets face it bad acting, lack of nuance, becoming tiresome

MrsJamin · 09/09/2023 17:39

Bad acting?! Lack of nuance?!

Seems odd to come on a thread about how much we all love ER to say you don’t like it. I’m off to the health threads to tell people I feel quite well.
