SPOILERS I’m rewatching ER for the billionth time. I need a portable c spine, Chem 7 and an intubation kit.

Why could Carter never be allowed to be happy?!
Why did they let Mark die (sob).
Poor Carter.
I have an irrational dislike of Thandie Newton because she (I know she didn’t really) broke his heart and he never found love again.
I’ve got to series 10 so it will start to get rubbish soon.

What other series has anyone liked as much? I can't think of any that had the same impact on me.

The West Wing 🙌🏻❤️

Lots of crossover between WW and ER. Kerry Weaver actress directed some of the WW episodes. John Wells was exec producer of both

AndrewGarfieldsLaptop · 01/09/2023 14:48

ER is the sole reason why I became a nurse. I badly wanted to be like Carol Hathaway! Also me and Kerry have the same health condition!

Bobbybobbins · 01/09/2023 15:06

Loved ER! I was teaching summer school when Mark's character died and we all crowded round a tiny TV to watch it and were all weeping.

Ah I just assumed it was because they were made around the same time!

I love ER. Haven't watched it in years..but I'll always remember when Carter was stabbed and when Romano had his arm chopped off. Great tele.

Fifireee · 01/09/2023 16:54

Yes West Wing!

The west wing for me too. Again I liked that the characters were flawed. I regularly quote the west wing, which sadly is lost on my family

Fifireee · 01/09/2023 21:23

@tigger1001 Same.
Obsessed with both series.

Oh ER is my all time favourite series. I've watched it through twice whilst pregnant in 2020 and 2023 and I love how it changes every time you watch it. You fall in and out of love with different characters.

Mark dying will be my all time saddest moment. I blubbed hard. And Pratt. I found it turned into the Neela show a bit when I watched it a second time and I loved Abby a little less.

Im not having anymore kids, will I have to get a puppy so I can watch it again?

MrsJamin · 01/09/2023 22:29

You just have to wait until another lockdown! It takes so long to get through otherwise.
What was it about the mid-90s that fostered such brilliant and memorable TV? Another favourite of mine from 1994 was My So-Called Life... Tragically they only made one series though!

Bobbybobbins · 01/09/2023 22:44

When Morgenstern says to Mark 'you set the tone' then he says it to Carter when he knows he isn't going to make it 😭

Then at the end Carter says it to Archie.

GoodStuffAnnie · 01/09/2023 23:23

This thread is astonishing…

the two best programmes ever made are ER and TWW. I think it’s the pace of them.

Fifireee · 02/09/2023 07:22

Lovely flawed Archie

I think his development as a character was the last really good thing before it started to get bad. Although ER bad was still better than many other programmes.

West Wing favourite moments include very hungover Josh dressed in fishing gear being yelled at. When they found Josh had been shot! CJ after the dentist. Charlie’s interview and so many more.

Where are you rewatching it? I used to love this and love rewatching old series from start to end.

Willmafrockfit · 02/09/2023 09:11

channel 4
i started it again last night!

CliffsofMohair · 02/09/2023 09:34

You’ve now inspired me to start the rewatch

Beckafett · 02/09/2023 11:02

Thank you again for this thread, I had a wonderful dream last night with carter and weaver in it- legit wanting to train to be in emergency medicine this morning

WobblyLondoner · 03/09/2023 08:01

Oh you lot! Found myself with an hour to spare last night so watched the oldest episode I could find in catch up (series 4). Love that series.

I had recorded the whole lot and stupidly deleted them having only got half way through series 1 (we ran out of space!).

Willmafrockfit · 03/09/2023 09:19

Carter is so young and fresh faced in series 1

Needmorelego · 03/09/2023 09:34

@Willmafrockfit Carter looks so young but Susan was meant to be late 20s and I think she looks so much older (than you expect for a late 20s person). I recently watched NYPD Blue and Sherry Springfield (Susan) was in season 1 of that before she moved to ER and she looked older in that too - all the characters did. Ones that were in their 40s looked so much older.
What was happening in the 90s that everyone look so old ?
Edit....I checked. She (Sherry) was 27 when they would have filmed series 1.

Willmafrockfit · 03/09/2023 09:48

so funny seeing them all in the beginning calling each other Dr so and so and the consultants arriving in their suits being absolute nobs

Greenthread · 03/09/2023 13:47

I have been terrified of helicopters ever since Romano lost his arm. Even though I am never in close proximity to a helicopter.
