This has been show a on britbox and ITVX but for me it’s new so looking forward to it

6 parts

need a good Saturday night thriller and fab cast in it

Crime is a six-part drama based on the 2008 novel of the same name by Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh, who also adapted his work for the screen. The story follows Dougray Scott as lead detective and troubled addict DI Ray Lennox, who is looking into the disappearance of a 13-year-old girl.

Dougray Scott (Mission: Impossible 2) leads the cast as DI Lennox, who is leading the investigation into the missing schoolgirl - and must confront the "demons" that previously consumed his life.

When 13-year-old Britney Hamil is kidnapped from an Edinburgh street, DI Lennox pushes himself to "breaking point" to locate her.

"He is driven by the secret, long hidden within him, of an abuse that touched his very soul," reads the official synopsis. "This detective inspector is not content with solving crimes, he sees the world in black and white, his mission to root out evil wherever he senses it.

"But passion such as this comes at a cost and we watch as one by one, Lennox’s relationships grow distant and steadily are replaced by those old false friends, a descent into the bottle and the powder beckons."

The rest of the main cast is as follows:
• Dougray Scott as Detective Inspector Ray Lennox
• Joanna Vanderham as Detective Sergeant Amanda Drummond
• Ken Stott as Chief Superintendent Bob Toal
• Angela Griffin as Trudi Lowe, Lennox's girlfriend
• Jamie Sives as Detective Inspector Dougie Gillam
• Michael Abubakar as Detective Constable Stuart McCorkel
• John Simm as Gareth Horsborough aka Mr Confectioner

I don't think enjoy is the right word for this series, but it does have me gripped and I think it's well acted, although DI Gillman is hard for me to understand sometimes, and I think of myself as reasonably good with accents.

Ken Stott's Chief Super lightens the mood sometimes in a very dark subject. It feels a bit inappropriate, but I go with it anyway.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/07/2023 20:03

Subtitles my dear @martinisforeveryone

Yeah, I should give in I suppose. I take it as a personal challenge far too much 😁

RaraRachael · 27/07/2023 13:42

I find it interesting that people need subtitles for Scottish accents - I've never needed them for English accents.

martinisforeveryone · 27/07/2023 13:56

@RaraRachael for me it's not a generalisation it's one specific character. A combination of his lines, possibly some dialect that doesn't resonate with me, the speed he speaks, his clarity etc. not necessarily just down to his accent.

I'm also finding some productions seem very dark, as in light wise not subject matter wise and the sound volume on Apple+ incredibly low.

I'll fiddle with the settings on my TV, but I don't think they're off as most things seem ok.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/07/2023 14:46

I'm Just semi deaf but accents really are hard

And cold callers are the worst even if of Asian descent. I just can't understand and tell them I am deaf so speak slowly. They usually hang up

I've been watching but not really enjoying until this latest episode ~ it's one hundred per cent better with John Simm in it , he's such a good actor and held my interest , with his game playing and cunning .

Lennox is getting out of control with the booze and coke . I'm not sure whether he actually saw his boss , Bob , in the car park or if it was his imagination , as they've him shown quite a few times when we see what he's thinking .

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/08/2023 08:34

Thought I had replied to this last week

Yes for an alcoholic - uou can't just have one beer .....

He is on a spiral downwards 🥲

Far too much drinking vodka and snorting drugs 🥲🥲

I know he is Torn up by not rescuing the girl in e1

But he did save the girl in the sea /rocks

Not sure how tonight's will pan out

E6 and last one

Sooooo did anyone watch last night

I watched and thought it was a very strange ending ,everything up in the air and the policewoman having a row with a man we've never seen.

So it made me google and apparently there's a Series 2 in September but it doesn't say whether it's just on itvx .

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/08/2023 19:50

Was strange

So he drinks and does drugs to block out his childhood ?

Finally got round to watching this and enjoyed it a lot but the ending was quite preposterous - would they really allow Dougie go in to the interview room and strangle the Confectioner? Found the side story of Ray’s Dad very sad. And still not entirely clear what happened to Les - I assume he was assaulted and that Ray got away but did it happen in that tunnel?

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/08/2023 21:58

Who knows @Hels20

Usually I like the endings but thought this was naff

Series 2 now on itvx. Found the first series quite irritating and unsatisfying. S2 is separate but continues story from S1. Imo is far better and S1 and S2 belong together, all makes a lot more sense. Recommend.

Hope so, blondes, it's definitely an improvement on S1 and I would guess right up your street. I'm afraid I've swallowed the lot over 2 days. Didn't plan to, just popped it on to see if it was as flat as S1 and got sucked in.

Late to the party as usual! We finished this last night. So annoyed at the ending. I was actually looking forward to series 2 but won't bother. If Dougie had gone mad and barricaded himself in the room to strangle him it might have been a bit more believable. Just so odd when he'd started confessing where the bodies were

Starting The Inheritance tonight 🤣

LadyEloise1 · 12/03/2024 08:48

I'm even later to the party @SgtCatherineCawood.
Finally watched it.
I have mixed feelings about it.
Great acting from Dougray Scott, Angela Griffin, Ken Stott and John Simm.
You really did have to suspend disbelief at times while The Confectioner was being interviewed.

newnamethanks · 12/03/2024 08:57

As above, S1 makes no sense as a stand alone, S2 ties it together.

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/03/2024 09:45

Seems I need to watch s2

So will wait for it to come to itv
