Sounds a bit more varied than my street!

I know two of our neighbours and even then not that well. DD plays with the little boy next door and we have had a drink or two with the parents a few times. Have talked with next door but one a few times, but nt much more.

I really should make more effort.

lol at all those lovely boys 'you never get enough food'
topic soooooo close to my own heart

artichokes · 21/02/2008 21:13

I'm quite enjoying this. It would be fascinating to knock on every door in my street and find out the story behind each one.

I know 4 families by name (all have kids around my DD's age) and I say "hi" to the occupants of three other houses. The rest are a mystery to me.

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 21/02/2008 22:01

heartbreaking

artichokes · 21/02/2008 22:02

Poor, poor Adam at the end there. I am in tears it was so sad.

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 21/02/2008 22:05

yes i was sobbing that poor poor man what a cruel illness

unicorn · 21/02/2008 22:06

Great documentary.

zebedee1 · 21/02/2008 22:18

What a great documentary, I live a few streets down from the one in the programme so found it fascinating. Adam's story was absolutely tragic.

artichokes · 21/02/2008 22:38

What area was it Zebedee? Ealing?

collision · 21/02/2008 22:40

fab programme

seb1 · 21/02/2008 22:54

Fab programme, makes you think about how little you really kmow or understand about people around you and their lives.

Tatties · 21/02/2008 23:03

Very very sad at the end

LardyMardyDaisyBoo · 21/02/2008 23:10

that was great TV, but so sad at the end.

It really makes you think. there are 19 houses in my street and I only know the names of seven households and nod in passing to the occupants of another four. That's quite sad really.

barcelonababe · 21/02/2008 23:15

Bum, i missed it! The director is a great documentary maker.... do you reckon it wil be repeated?

Notalone · 21/02/2008 23:37

Think Adam was failed by everyone including his own family. He was articulate, intelligent, good looking and could have had a great future had it not been for his debiltating illness. Couldn't stop the tears at the end - how very sad. And also for the polish man who had no-one in his nineties. Makes you realise how some people can die alone and not be found for days or even weeks

noddyholder · 21/02/2008 23:46

Reality tv at its finest. Now how do we get rid of all the other trash on tv?

zebedee1 · 22/02/2008 07:23

Artichokes, it was in Acton.

tiredemma · 22/02/2008 10:22

Im so glad we watched this. Came across it by accident (DP wanted to watch 'cage fighting' on the 'fight' channel but I put my foot down.)

Very thought provoking, I sobbed at the end- where was that young mans parents? How do you ever get to a point in your life where you disown your own flesh and blood.

Fantastic programme. Made me want to knock on doors this morning to check if the OAP's are alright.

filthymindedvixen · 22/02/2008 10:34

A very endearing and thought-provoking programme. In my weekend-eve tipsyness, I wondered if I would be brave enough to do it in RL.
I have considered in the past organising some sort of community 'effort' (ie a tidy up of a crappy alleyway, tree planting etc)so that the neighbourhood might feel bonded and we'd all benefit in a practical sense but I am not the sort of person who is good at inspiring people and I would be mortified if I got no response IYKWIM.

Have just watched this
Can I say firstly I would want to throttle the kiwi household.
Love the chaos of the big family.
Strange how at complete odds and ends people in the street are..family living in 1 room and old man in huge house alone.

tiredemma · 22/02/2008 10:43

Lovely houses though. I would love a house like that.

The Kiwis would aggrevate me as neighbours.
