Malpractice - new ITV series

Anyone planning on watching this? Malpractice is a new series on ITV starting tomorrow at 9pm. I might give it a try.

"From the creators of Line of Duty and Vigil" caught my eye, but it means the production company apparently. It's meant to be a medical thriller, not sure if this would be too difficult a watch.

Marking my place here!

Is this the bingers thread?
As there's already a thread for people who aren't bringing binging.

HelloMist · 23/04/2023 23:22

Sorry, I didn't see the other thread. Perhaps best to make a new one with clear title.

You can ask them to change the title

Have started a new thread for binge watchers.

I have seen 2.5 episodes and am finding the plot twists and details of A&E really interesting.

(Hope that's okay OP)

On episode 3. I'm a medic. It's absolute nonsense on so many levels. Registrants don't ask more junior doctors to get drugs for them and give them against what is on the Kardex. Nurses are the gatekeepers to all medicines.

Lumbar punctures on 12 year olds would 100% not happen in the ED by someone who had never performed one before. At worst the paeds reg would come down and do it and at best the child would be moved to the leads ward and have a nurse supporting the child and family.

There is no such thing as a medical investigation team as portrayed. The police would be called and the guy cross examining in coroners would never be allowed. It's a fact finding forum, not an adversarial place. "No further questions" is absolute bobbins!

I'll still watch it all and complain afterwards!

Oh my goodness, the more I watch the worse it is! Where are the bloody police???

NotDonna · 12/05/2023 20:46

@IwantToRetire how are you binge watching this please? I hate waiting a week between episodes.

Bluebells1970 · 12/05/2023 20:51

ITV X.

I watched it but went humphhh at the end as it was so bloody unreal. The writers weren't very well researched in protocols especially around drugs. And the main character wasn't remotely likeable so that didn't engage me either.

IwantToRetire · 12/05/2023 20:57

@NotDonna - yes I did binge watch. I thought I had posted about it. I really liked it.

IwantToRetire · 12/05/2023 20:58

Honestly my memory - I see I started a binge watcher thread - and forgot https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/telly_addicts/4792044-malpractice-started-sunday-23-april-spoiler-thread-for-binge-watchers

You've saved me a lot of typing - that's exactly the sort of thing that DH and I have been saying all through (we're just watching each episode as they come along).
Trouble us, it's written by a doctor so a lot of people are convinced it's accurate.

Absolutely! Better be an excellent and twisty end though Smile

saltandpepperspareribs · 13/05/2023 16:18

Haha @LaMarschallin

It totally annoyed me last night. I could pick holes in just about every medical scene although I will compliment the props/make up people on the very realistic looking injuries.

Changing the card from accidental to deliberate also would never happen. Firstly most stuff is electronic now and secondly you would just write overdose at that initial presentation as no one can determine accidental or deliberate in those circumstances. That's an opinion not a diagnosis.

Using your man's log in is also totally flawed. All NHS electronic systems have digital footprints. Deletions and amends are still visible to those with admin rights. I do it all the time when I am running internal investigations into conduct and practice. Everyone knows this so rarely does anyone dick about like that because you will almost certainly be caught.

Addiction in doctors is disproportionally high as a profession and they are better supported than nurses or PAM's ever are but she's off the scale and for an educated woman she's making ridiculously stupid and catch outable decisions.

The nod to covid and the pressure on staff to return to work when they weren't ready was good to see though.

I switched to the marvellous mrs Maisel instead and felt cleansed!
