Recommend me a series please?

I'm in need of a new series that has loads of seasons. I like the comfort of sticking on something familiar as I'm working. If it runs to 8-10 seasons that's brilliant.

I've just finished House (hence the username 😆) have also watched end to end call the midwife and Benidorm.

Tried but didn't finish The bold type, Shitts creek and this is us.

Love anything medical and anything gentle, undemanding, aimed at teens/young adults is also fine.

Can anybody recommend me something long please?
Thank you!'

Oh also Nashville- like Brothers and Sisters with added country music 😄

spiderlight · 10/04/2023 18:07

I'm currently enjoying 'Last Tango in Halifax' on iPlayer - nice gentle comfort telly.

Bump is good (on iplayer I think) and Five Rooms

  • both sort of comedy drama.

I second Better things too.

That does look good!
I think I'll try Bump tomorrow.

Funnily enough I hovered over this today, it looks like my sort of thing.
I ended up watching class of 2007, the whole season in a day...it was brilliant but not enough of it for me!

Its always sunny in Philadelphia - Netflix, not for the easily offended 🤣 like 15 seasons, it's just outrageously silly comedy, it just gets better as the seasons go on. I think it's the longest ever running sitcom so it's fairly old in the first few seasons

spiderlight · 12/04/2023 10:25

@isitaline97 - would that be too old for a broad-minded 16-year-old? We got into the habit over lockdown of watching an episode of a sitcom at dinner time but we've finished all the obvious ones - he loved Big Bang Theory, Friday Night Dinner, Young Sheldon etc. and we're looking for another long-running one to keep him going through the exam period.

I've heard good things about Ted Lasso (though not yet watched it!) But it's only on its 3rd series I think.

spiderlight · 12/04/2023 11:37

Thanks. It's on Apple TV though, which we don't have - we only (!) have Netflix, Prime, Now and Disney+.

How about something like Arrested Development or Modern Family?

spiderlight · 12/04/2023 13:53

Thanks - we'll give them a try.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 12/04/2023 13:56

The Mentalist is the best TV series ever made. The cast is just perfection.

MaydinEssex · 12/04/2023 14:00

Only two seasons and quite old now, but Bodies on BBC iplayer is well worth a watch.

The Good Wife is perfect for this, there’s about 100 episodes per season and about ten seasons or something. Took me bloody years to get through it.

itstheyearzero · 12/04/2023 15:01

Has anybody mentioned Off spring? Loved it - Aussie drama about a family with the main character being an obstetrician.

Now that's the sort of thing I need to get into, I may have a look.
I'm currently trying Bump but it isn't grabbing me at all.

My son has been watching 'the boys' on prime, I started it last night and really enjoyed it

Cuckoosheep · 12/04/2023 15:41

I'm another recommending the good wife, I believe there is a follow up series too called the good fight which centres on the Diane Lockheart character.

isitaline97 · 12/04/2023 15:45

@spiderlight depends on how mature they are, I'd maybe suggest watching an episode first. I would have probably watched it at 16 and loved it. I would let a 16 year old watch it but I'm quite laid back 😂 It has a lot of bad language and bad behaviour but it's very comical with it.

Toystory123 · 12/04/2023 16:07

Have you ever seen modern family? Light hearted and easy to watch, plenty of seasons as well

mewkins · 12/04/2023 18:02

Big Boys on c4 is also really good - funny but with a focus on mental health. Would also be good for teens as deals with some important subjects.

LadyFlumpalot · 12/04/2023 18:04

Downton Abbey. Gentle, undemanding, only a couple of traumatic spots that can be easily skipped over, seven good length seasons and two movies. It's my go to WFH background noise.

ZombieKettle · 12/04/2023 18:09

Doc Martin is lovely and gentle. All series is on ITVX.
