Taking over the brooding thriller spot (despite last week's whimsical film) we are now being offered an Irish crime series.

In case anyone is interested.

Ah. I was hoping for a thumbs-up or down. Pondering on dipping in now, I don't know how long I'll last.

OldTinHat · 05/02/2023 14:26

I'm on E2 atm. Enjoying it so far. It's reminding me of the Freshwater Five case in a way.

OldTinHat · 05/02/2023 19:06

Just started the last episode and noticed that the director is Hannah Quinn. There are two main characters called Hanna and Quinn 🙄

It's okay, though. Just waiting to see if there is a big reveal apart from the one that seems to be obvious.

No spoilers from me!

IwantToRetire · 05/02/2023 19:51

Thanks for the no spoilers - hadn't realised all episodes were on line.

Have watched ep 1 & 2 and think it is okay. In fact more than that, am looking forward to see how the plot develops.

And there is a nordic connection in keeping with the BBC 4 time slot!

I suppose the theme maybe isn't that original but has Sinéad Cusack and other recognisable actors.

But do wonder if the portrayal of the local police in Ireland isn't becoming just a bit cliched. But who know maybe it is true.

I see it was made 2 years ago. Wonder how those who saw it in Ireland rated it.

Oh, oh!!!!! I shall say no more...

Enjoy! It's actually very surprising. I need to find my eyebrows now, they are somewhere at the back of my head!

I thought I had it nailed and was busy yawning. What a mistake!

Halfway through ep 2, and

Yeah when the Swedish woman arrived, it get a bit Flann O'Brien! 😀

If anyone‘s interested, I saw this review in the Irish Examiner www.irishexaminer.com/lifestyle/artsandculture/arid-40952459.html

IwantToRetire · 12/02/2023 21:53

Have been watching at tv pace, and it is better than I thought it was going to be.

Though not sure it needs the Scandinavian link and some of the plot does rely on happenstance.

Not Happy Valley but certainly better than Death in Paradise.

I really liked it! I'm guessing by the ending that there will be a second series. Can anyone confirm or deny?

Agreed. The storyline tightened up in eps #3 and 4. Still relied on some fortunate coincidences, though. It was pretty obvious from the start that Lenny wasn't going to make the final reel.

Peachy2005 · 13/02/2023 16:23

The accents are a bit of a mish-mash for one supposed family. Ciara character’s accent is really quite odd for supposed-Galway. I think I recognised at least a bit of Roundstone, a popular filming destination. Only watched 2 so far. Yes I wondered about the portrayal of the Gardaí and I’d suspect they’ll have closed a lot of these small police stations nowadays rather than just having 1 or 2 guards for different areas. But sure it’s fiction!

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/02/2023 21:34

Just seen this

Sounds up my street

Will download e1

duc748 · 18/02/2023 22:26

It's OK, not amazing. I should be watching it now, but got delayed by the snooker.

IwantToRetire · 19/02/2023 18:16

SPOILER ALERT! (posted as all episodes have now been shown on tv - okay?)

Finished watching this last night, and thought it moved from the almost credible to highly unlikely. Unless there is going to be a season 2 and it turns into the Irish Sopranos!

I am hopeless at names so will talk about characters!

I know the wife really wanted a baby but would she just turn from super woman juggling job, new home, hopeless husband and adoption process to letting someone buy one for her as a price for her silence?

And the grandmother shutting the detective in the freezer room and then go home to prepare a family diner? Although her and her husband coming to an understanding did seem in character.)

But really glad Lenny's girlfriend was secreted away.

So many threads not finished, so I checked to see if there is a series 2, and as yet not announced.

But would be interesting to see how such a hive of illegal activity could be carried out is such a small community.

Predict that Swedish dective will ring the Sergant and get released.

Will miss it as have been sticking with The Wall - Cover Your Tracks and cant even remember the latest plot twists. I started a thread on this and it has no comments so everybody else must think it isn't worth sticking with www.mumsnet.com/talk/telly_addicts/4739776-the-wall-cover-your-tracks-new-canadian-crime-drams-more-4-9pm-starts-10-february-2023

@IwantToRetire

Thanks, I'll have a look at that. I did think this was ridiculously contrived to leave a 'let's keep as many plates spinning in the air as possible to keep open a S2 option', a bit more brazen than usual.

diddl · 22/02/2023 08:34

I've just watched the first ep & thought that it was supposed to be a comedy.

Everyone having to go to Mammy's for dinner.

Well off (favoured?) son who doesn't seem to work.

Well wouldn't you just know it he's involved in drugs🙄

Sausagenbacon · 23/02/2023 07:22

I think there should be a law against series 1 being an introduction to series 2. and that's all it was.
And how are they going to register the baby?

IwantToRetire · 23/02/2023 15:27

Yes it will be interesting to see if they do make a second series. But its such a crowded field now that unless it got rave reviews I doubt it.

Although I did read that the Karen Pirie crime drama was going to have a second series and I thought that was terrible.

OP posts:
duc748 · 23/02/2023 15:35

Karen Pirie was better than this, for my money.

diddl · 24/02/2023 14:42

Well even though I thought that the first ep was rubbish I skimmed through the rest.

So Ciara had a recording of Quinn.

Was it because of that that Quinn took Hana to somewhere safe(?) & got Aiden a baby??

duc748 · 24/02/2023 14:46

It was the 180 degree change of character by Aiden's missus that got to me.

diddl · 24/02/2023 14:58

And how are they going to register the baby?

With difficulty?😁

Not sure how it happens now.

When mine were born the hospital gave you some paper/form to take to register them.

Don't know what was on it though as my husband went both times whilst I was still in hospital.

diddl · 24/02/2023 15:00

duc748 · 24/02/2023 14:46

Perhaps she should just dump Aiden now she's got a baby?

duc748 · 24/02/2023 15:09

Heh, why not? 😀 It's rubbish really, can't see me bothering with a second series..
