I keep seeing all the good reviews of the latest season.
Do I need to go back to season 1 before watching?

Thanks.

Definitely start from the beginning! We had never heard of it, so binged S1 and 2 between Christmas amd NY and now watching S3 weekly. As there is no option to binge S3 if you crack on you will be caught up in no time.

Nimbostratus100 · 12/01/2023 20:20

yes, start from season 1, or you wont understand the situation

WandaWonder · 12/01/2023 20:21

I have already seen 1-2 a couple of times and I have again started from the beginning before starting 3

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 12/01/2023 20:21

We are late to the party and have just binged s1, 2 and caught up with 3. You have to watch it from the beginning or you won't understand what is going on. It's only 6 episodes per season so easily done.

Sneakyblinders · 12/01/2023 20:21

I am going to start series 1 as well - tomorrow!

sanityisamyth · 12/01/2023 20:21

Start from the beginning. It's sooooo worth it. Very dark and twisted at times though.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 12/01/2023 20:22

We're new to it so have started with Series 1

rubbishatballet · 12/01/2023 20:22

Definitely go back to the first series. We actually watched both when they were on but have re-watched over the past few weeks before watching S3 as I couldn't remember what had happened. I'd also forgotten how good it is - it would be such a shame to miss out on any of it!

illiterato · 12/01/2023 20:23

You’ll be gutted if you watch S3 first as you’ll want more HV and you’ll have “spoiled” 1&2 for yourself. Deffo start from the start

MsBucket · 12/01/2023 20:23

I think I’d start from the beginning. I cannot remember the previous seasons. This always happens to me when there’s a gap between seasons that I don’t understand what’s going on and so I have to search a recap video online or rewatch from the beginning and then binge watch until I can catch up to the latest episodes.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 12/01/2023 20:28

Absolutely. It won’t make sense without.

JoyDivisionOvenGlovesx · 12/01/2023 20:28

I concur with all of the above, start from series 1.

But for anyone who CBA, or is needing a refresher - heartily recommend Shrine Podcast (the very funny folks who did the bestest of all the Line of Duty podcasts). They’ve done detailed recaps of series 1 & 2, and now a pod per episode for s3.

JoyDivisionOvenGlovesx · 12/01/2023 20:29

And yeah, I refuse to call them seasons. IT’S SERIES!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/01/2023 22:16

YY start from Series 1

I didn't watch it for ages as I didn;t like Raquel in Coronation Street but Sarah Lancashire is brillliant . Catherine Cawood is a million miles away from Raquel.

You have the lovely (well not so lovely in this character) Steve Pemberton

There's James Norton (again not a nice chaacter)

The relationships between the characters unfolds and is explained .

Series 2 took me a while to get into but very gritty .

I haven't watched 3 , saving for a binge

QueSyrahSyrah · 12/01/2023 22:18

Season 1 absolutely!

We've just re-watched S1 and S2 in anticipation, and are waiting until S3 is ready for us to binge in one go. I can't wait!

sanityisamyth · 12/01/2023 22:19

Definitely.

Catspyjamas17 · 12/01/2023 22:24

Series 1 is so grim, I'd actually watch them how I did (accidentally). S2, then S1, then S3.

Whydoiwearsomuchleopardprint · 12/01/2023 22:30

I literally just asked that question to friends who said watch series 1 first! I’ve just finished it and it was brilliant! Looking forward to watching series 2 and 3 now!

EyesOnThePies · 12/01/2023 23:51

I am bingeing, currently on series 2.

  1. If someone doesn’t cut Catherine’s fringe soon I might not make it to series 3
  2. All I hear of Hebden Bridge is that it is full of wholesome lentilly-type middle class folk who send their kids to a Steiner school. Where are they? Amongst the drunks, psychopaths, thugs, etc? I haven’t seen one. Not even buying lentils in a shop.
Readybrek999 · 13/01/2023 06:34

Okie dokie! SERIES 1 it is!
Thanks.

I have been wondering the same op. This thread has made my mind up. I will also start at the beginning. Thanks.

AromaSun · 16/02/2023 22:16

I'm new to this and finally on Season 2. I'm already on the edge of my seat! It's taken me 3 days to watch one episode. Between kids, housework and a child who refuses to go to sleep before me.

Actually I should have posted this in Parenting. I'm loving it

AromaSun · 16/02/2023 22:18

I started at the beginning too as I didn't want to miss out. I'm fairly loving it so far

lljkk · 16/02/2023 22:28

it has several... tropes I loathe in police/crime drama.
I have stuck with it for the accents, landscape, funny parts, the appealing characters & the bits of policing that feel very realistic.

I skipped Season 1 completely because that looked the very worst for the tedious tropes I can't tolerate.

I find it hilarious that the writer is mostly known for scripts on The Archers. Then again, she's brilliant at dialogue.

Half way thru series 3, now.

I don't understand why you are watching it then?
