The Our Girl Addicts Thread 66 Stay focused, Stay alert, Stay alive and carry on....spying

We started to follow Our Girl back in 2014 and although there will be no further series, we do revisit from time to time. We have watched all seven series of Soldier Soldier to keep up our military terminology and have galloped through all three series of The Musketeers. There was a definite connection between Our Girl and The Musketeers in the delightful form of Luke Pasqualino. We have now agreed to watch the old BBC series of Spooks and are currently in the middle of series 3. Please join in if this grabs your attention.

I think Adam is not fully in control of himself. He's taking out his anger on this bloke.

It's more the wanting to complete the mission, knowing the stakes involved and that the guy knows the mission etc

Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive

"‘Oh what a tangled web we weave/When first we practice to deceive,’ is a very ‘Shakespearean’ phrase, however, it is not from Shakespeare. It comes from an early nineteenth century Scottish author, Sir Walter Scott, best selling writer of novels, plays, and poems. To put it delicately, no-one reads Scott anymore."

Magi84 · 01/12/2022 07:14

Yes Hawkins001 I am from Edinburgh and am of a generation where Scott loomed large in our education. Must say easier to read as an adult if one has a mind to.

Ladies, just to give you a heads up, I won't be able to do next Wednesday. I am ok for any other day that week though.

It's the end of series 3 this week. Hard to believe we've done so many episodes. Full disclosure: I did watch this episode at the weekend (to escape the football). I spent some time hiding behind a cushion. It is not for the faint hearted!

Let me know about next week.

Sorry - next week Wednesday is the only night that works for me.

Ilovelblue · 06/12/2022 23:27

Hmm, my other thought eejit was that we have a week off after the end of this series. That takes us up to 21 December of course so we could start series 4 then or we could maybe have a longer Christmas break and regroup on 4 January.

What are your thoughts everyone?

Magi84 · 07/12/2022 06:24

ilove I think your suggestion to finish series 3 this evening and restart with series 4 on 4th January is probably the best way. It is a busy time at the moment and the fact that series 3 conveniently finishes this evening seems to point us in that direction.

eejittwo · 07/12/2022 07:11

I’ll go with Magi, lest we get to 21st and find ourselves snowed under with prep.

Ilovelblue · 07/12/2022 09:18

Rhu are you ok with this plan?

If we're all in agreement, maybe we should be having an end of term party tonight? !

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 07/12/2022 09:31

Yes, sounds a good idea to me.

Party! I'll bring the sausage rolls...or maybe a few of Judy's vol-au-vents!

Magi84 · 07/12/2022 11:00

Oh yes "a finger buffet" would fit the bill

eejittwo · 07/12/2022 13:49

Plus Spanner and his guitar

Ilovelblue · 07/12/2022 14:02

Haha. Can I invite Elvis please. He really is still alive in my head!

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 07/12/2022 14:34

Yep, whack on the juke box and we can have some CJ dad dancing too! Plus, in the ante room perhaps a bout or two of naked fireside wrestling with Kinders versus Kingy for the title of undisputed top section sergeant...ok, perhaps a tad too far, but a throwback to the old days 😁

Ilovelblue · 07/12/2022 14:52

I was thinking the same Rhu! The heady days of OG1.

OP posts:
eejittwo · 07/12/2022 18:44

ilove - you didn’t need to ask! Elvis is ALWAYS in the building. You’ll need back-up to fight some of the rest of us off, though.

Ilovelblue · 07/12/2022 20:34

Well.....here's the problem. I've also invited Adam Carter to our party and I am sure he and Elvis aren't going to get along very well so in the interests of a harmonious end of term party, I am willing on this occasion to send Elvis in your direction Rhu or Magi. (eejit is entertaining Spanner of course).

I'm ready. I have a mushroom vol au vent and a sausage roll from the buffet and a glass of fizz. Here's to the end of series 3 folks.
