By that reasoning we should never be complaining about how under marked certain celebrities are. 🤷🏻‍♀️

And of course you can learn to dance. There is never any "just" about it, you have to put the effort in of course just like you would any other skill. Most of the celebrities are putting in that effort. Of course, the many ringers don't need to put in as much.

ArcaneWireless · 28/10/2022 16:46

For me, The role of the pro on Strictly is to try to make their pro shine - and it will allus be varying degrees of shiny.

If they girn because they or their celeb gets a chewing, then they haven’t done what they are supposed to.

And they shouldn’t be girning about their celeb doing it badly on the night.

It happens. Folk like Tony. They kept him in. Job done.

VickyGiggIesStrictlyHaIIoweenHorrors · 28/10/2022 16:55

I'm sure a sleb has said before it is less learning to dance and more learning the steps for 90 seconds before forgetting it all for the next one, so routines by rote. Don't get me wrong, am sure some will still remember what a frame should be or a fleckerl or a heel lead; but with the turnaround time jumping from one style to the next, I think the majority of them do bloody well.

I think the pros usually complain about undermarking when someone (usually VCraig) is especially mean. I got the impression they thought him giving Matt 3s all the time, for example, even after he and the others had said he'd improved, was unfair. It's also a bit of an act, obviously; especially in more recent seasons, the cast seem to be getting encouraged by producers to really go to town /on the cheering/booing/general emoting.
Sure, you can learn, but some people will just achieve a higher level than others. I've no doubt Tony is putting in a lot of effort, as was Peter Schmeichel, who I referenced earlier. People just have different levels of talent.

IIRC, that was Harry Judd. He said the show didn't turn him into a dancer, he just learned to get through the steps for those very specific routines.

I just read an article by Dan Walker about his experience last year - whilst I am not his biggest fan at all, it was actually a lovely read about his partnership with Nadiya.

He says that at the end of the show, her mum spoke to him and said how grateful she was to him for allowing her daughter to 'blossom' and show she was more than just a beautiful blonde. And that was absolutely true - she definitely showed a different side last year and I do (begrudgingly) think Dan was the cause of it.

Just shows that these partnerships are not always just beneficial for the celebrity 🙂

I've never really understand why the pros get so excited/upset at good or bad scores or getting put out

The judges are less capable (or only as good as) dancers than they are and surely they know they can't all win?

They get paid regardless right?

Gio won last year and now has a TV program with Anton exploring Italy. It's about exposure - and ultimately £££.

You're less likely to buy Cameron or Neil's calendar, or tickets to their own touring show, or attend a meet-and-greet masterclass than you are Gratz or Gorka because the latter have the Saturday night, plus ITT, exposure until they are voted out.

(Possible the reason Neil likes to be "on camera" on a Saturday and phones the paps every time he steps out with a new girlfriend. Keeps his name/image in the tabloids).

Topgub · 29/10/2022 09:13

@JamMakingWannaBe

Yes, fair point.

I was just thinking, I wonder why the pros leave. (Other than getting older) Its a well paid steady gig for them.

The only 1 I can think of to have made it 'big' is otti

JamMakingWannaBe · 29/10/2022 10:11

Lots go on to other franchises.

Lilia Kopylova is/was the head judge in Turkey, Darren is/was working on the Irish show and Gleb and Arten are in the States. Brendan and Camilla did the NZ version. Kevin is doing UK stage shows but I think he was a bit screwed by COVID when theatres closed but Strictly was still on. Janette allegedly moved to ITT because she wanted to start a family.

The two choreographers on ITT were interesting as it shows what other dance based roles are involved in the show.

Gooseysgirl · 29/10/2022 17:56

Throwback to Rose and Gio's 40 scoring this time last year! I wonder will we have any perfect scores tonight 🤔

derxa · 29/10/2022 18:15

I'm obsessed by Hamza. I must have watched his and Jowita's salsa more than 30 times. Apparently he takes part in the Highland games where lives.

keepcalm11 · 29/10/2022 18:29

Ive been watching his quickstep as well, I just love watching Hamza dance

JemimaTab · 29/10/2022 18:38

I’ve followed Hamza on Instagram for a few years for his nature photography, and there are a few posts where he is lifting a woman above his head like he did on the salsa - this was years before strictly. Must be a bit of a party trick! And shows he’s pretty strong. And I’d heard he’s done caber tossing, too.

dementedma · 29/10/2022 18:47

Team Hamza all the way. What a joy he is to watch

Evening all.
I shall state now I am not a fan of Hallowe'en in any form. I may be grumpy tonight.

KimberleyClark · 29/10/2022 18:51

checking in, great to be watching live, I’ve been watching on catch-up last couple of weeks.

VickyGiggIesStrictlyHaIIoweenHorrors · 29/10/2022 18:51

ApolloandDaphne · 29/10/2022 18:51

I'm never very sure I like Halloween week. Too much costume and not enough dancing.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 29/10/2022 18:52

@Gooseysgirl Their dance was fabulous. Hopefully we'll see something just as good tonight.

FuzzyPuffling · 29/10/2022 18:53

Whenever I watch the opening credits I think "oh, I have forgotten about you". To quite a few of them.

VickyGiggIesStrictlyHaIIoweenHorrors · 29/10/2022 18:53
